I thought I'd start to do some Top 10's of things that I like in the world of design and share them with you.
This is my first top 10 video and it contains some of my favourite negative space logo designs.
I was sad to hear the news that just after I uploaded this video, the creator of the NBC logo which features in the video died at the age of 85. Ivan Chermayeff created many well-recognised logos including Mobil, National Geographic, Pan Am and many others.

Definitely love the plumber logo!
It is a very clever use of negative space :)
Pixels Ink . Vino Piano "sells" the product well to me, and looks amazeballs! Plumber looks like a locksmith with the key, so it's kinda a "hey look at what I'm passionate about" logo for the plumber or locksmith. Think logo is the most direct and sharpest to me.
the Carrefourr supermarket logo, one of the biggest franchise in Indonesia. For many years I know this supermarket and its logo, but I really didnt realize about the negative space tries to talk. I just saw the two damn shapes---the gure---on its logo for many years before.

I had never noticed the Peacock in the colour logo, but saw it immediately when it was black and white!
Fascinating. I love the one with the wine glasses / keyboard. It's helped me look at logos in a completely different light.

That was great living these moments of passion, a logo journey is something you know hard to achieve, but sometimes you can feel it with no words
The VinoPiano also had wine bottles between the piano keys / glasses.

In agreement with your number 1. I can remember first seeing that logo and thinking how such a simple design can capture everything about its audience.

Oh my gosh, that VinoPiano one made my heart hurt! I've been working on a logo for a music company forever and I sooooo wish I'd thought of that myself!

Yes I too thought the same. Some logos can't be suited to other countries. They are absolutely made for those countries.
vino piano and the guild of food writers just rocked ... hey Col , I commented yesterday and i said that your voice was a little bit low , i had my headphones around 36% of the volume and in this video i just needed the 22% , it was definately improved and your camera's mic insted of your webcam's has a very warm tone ... again thanks for the awesome video ;D
Thanks for the feedback mate. The mic I used with when I was recording the screen capture was my Blue Yeti desktop mic. When I'm filming standing up I use a Rode lapel mic. Pain in the ass that everything can sound so different :)

The (old) Formula 1 logo is simply iconic!
I was never really a fan of the old logo, but I can't deny that it wasn't iconic :)

Nice one, Col. Moby Dick's logo was the best for me - so inventive! 🐋
Fantastic isn't it? It was a real struggle for me to choose between that and the Food Writer's Guild logos for the number 1 spot :)
11:30 Saw the logo and my mind immediately catch "Moby Dick", even if I only know the book for other references. That's good design!
I was told that once you see the FedEx arrow, you always see it...but I'm always like, "Yeah, I remember there is supposed to be some clever trick in this logo..." And them I'm reminded, and I'm like, "Alright, I guess so..."

I have to say that the whale's tail is not like that shape, and the harpoon's details are so small and not so visible. To me, that is a successful logo!
There is no doubt that you are a Pro designer, and I love your style.

Great video ! You should check out the Hartford whalers logo. It’s a hockey logo of a whales tale that includes an “H” in negetive space in it for Hartford

On number 2, it also looks like the whales tale forms the bottom of a ship's hull as well. And I haven't figured it out yet, but the top parts of the M could possibly be other parts of a ship.

I am so glad I found someone who feels the same about negative space logos. Your passions shows through and I found them to be the most clever and creative logo creation to the point that I want no other type of logo any longer. It is not an easy art form which makes it all the more praiseworthy. My favorites are the writer's alliance logo and the one for Wild Life conservation. I will send them to you if you have not seen them. My favorites from your selection is the writers guild, pencil, moby dick and the vino piano. Just amazing!
Guild of Food Writers logo: You missed the suggestion of a G (longhand style) and an F either side of the split on the pen nib.
I'm a big fan (massive) of negative space and use it whenever I can.

As long as people give me well thought out feedback, good or bad, I'll take it on board and act accordingly.
What isn't useful is "I don't like it!", "I'm not feeling the design" etc etc.

Man that Yoga Australia logo is even waaaay cleverer than it appears. At first you think... 'but it's missing Tasmania'. Then you look up 'map of Tassie' on Urban dictionary. 😂😂😂
