- To our grown children - Just because Mom is older doesn't mean that she is unable to make her own decisions when it comes to dating. Widows deserve a second chance at love - if that's what they want. This is a very personal decision - some widows are content and even happy to never date again, while others want to test out the dating pool and maybe even get married again.

I am 74 years old. My 81 year old husband recently died. I am a retired nurse and was his caregiver for many years. Worn out doesn't even begin to describe how tired I am. I do not want to start all over again, dating and possibly having to care for another man. I'm pretty much done!!

Yes 👍. To hold someone back from happiness because of their own selfishness is controlling. I understand if there is genuine fear for their loved ones jumping into a wrong situation….but we are all entitled to be happy in our latter years .
After one year, I am content to sit out my remaining years solo. Lots of friends and family and discovering new hobbies and fulfilling a bucket list. That doesn't mean this is 100% "off the table," (for me) It just means I am not ready to visit it at this time. It is hard enough to deal with the grief, let alone adult children expecting to have a voice in the rest of your life. If you find love again - Good for you! it took a lot of courage o get to that point. Bless your heart for doing the work to get there!

I like that thought . But widows don’t make it obvious that they want to date again . And we men are terrible at reading otherwise . What I’ve seen is widows will cluster like they did in highschool . And ignore the man who maybe interested . But I also noticed , that the widow sitting by herself , trying to blend into the wood work . Now she’s looking ! A gentalman will step up , we exchange life stories and wa la !
So the old hubby died 2 years ago and the daughter thinks that is too soon for the mother to date. Totally laughably especially for someone that is 78 years old, perhaps the daughter thought her mommy should wait till she was 82 or 83 to seek male companionship again.

Children can have ridiculous expectations for their widowed parent. Their biggest concern should be for their inheritance, not for their parent's love life. That may have been their real concern, but they were afraid to voice it. Inheritance can do ugly things to a family, especially if the parent does not plan for it responsibly. That ways everyone knows what will happen and there with few if any worries, surprises, or disappointments.
How soon after the death of a spouse the widow/er feels comfortable dating someone new is their decision, not the children's.
They may already be concerned about the inheritance.

Most want a caretaker. Why do older and active men want a younger woman? The women their age are already used up.

The old men are the ones who are "used up". Hence, Viagra, or possibly, a limp bizkit that no longer can perform at all. Ugh!!!! 🤮
