In 1959 we moved to Florida so my father could work for Mercury outboards as a sales rep for southern Florida. Mercury was his racing sponser. My father sold our house and the family business on Long Island and we came to Florida summer of '59 on our 33ft Owens. My dad died in 2007 at age 90 and always was an avid boater his whole life and used to race with band leader Guy Lombardo in the mid 1950s!
The man in the bottom left hand part of the picture at 19:52 is my father Chuck Meissner, who participated in this race in 1949. My dad raced in many more races in Florida until the mid 60's when he retired from racing due to a back injury from racing.

Ok, they really need to bring this back. Racing old boats with old motors.
Love these vintage videos!
I'd really like to see this race started up again with the the big guys of the likes Miss Geico, Teague Marine and so forth.
Awesome!
