    Thank you for showing us everything you did before starting up the Deuce and telling us how long it had been since you started it last and the temperature outside. I also liked you showing the ice on the floor board and explaining about the cold air getting into the cab from it not being completely sealed. It gives good information about operating one of these trucks for those of us considering owning one in the future. Please keep the videos coming.

    I live in Sweden, and have a DEUCE. Norwegian edition, with diff locks on the shoulders and single wheel rear, dimension 11.00-20. Drive a lot of winter driving with it, Used chains on the wheels, if it's very snowy and slippery. In tough conditions, I put chains behind. Work on minimizing the drag of cold air from outside when driving winter time. but the heat is very good in it.
    Camp on the flak, so I've modified a bit, with embedded floors, and double presses over, so the heat stays better, gasol warmed up, but I'm working on putting a diesel burner, "Husqvarna Warm Wind 2002,
    I have driven about 8000 Km so far this year. Tried to drive up and into Russia, just to do it, but the bureaucracy stopped me at the Russian border.
    I would get 1000 dollars in fine every time police saw me, they said. However, both the Customs and the Military had let me go, but it could have been a lot of expensive, so I took another solution. However, went over yet and went with a Dutchman in a Russian GAS 66 for 2 weeks. and crossed the Kola peninsula.
    Have a good time, hope you get some warmth soon

    Just found your channel and subbed. There is a "hard cab" available for the deuce, which can be removed and replaced with the canvas during more moderate weather. Otherwise, regular treatment of the canvas with some type of weatherproofing is necessary, since canvas will let in water, every place you touch it when its wet. Otherwise, the deuce was the workhorse of the military for a reason. Really hard to destroy one, except in combat. Some later mods done to it were air assist steering, replacing the multifuel engine with a Cat 3116, about 170 hp, and an Allison automatic, which was usually blamed on the ver-increasing number of ladies entering the military, but actually was done to make it more NATO/UN acceptable.

    The Deuce is a very good truck within its limits. I live in ND and but a block heater on my Deuce and it will start no matter what the temp now. If I am running the truck in the winter or in any water or snow I never use the parking brake because it will be guaranteed to be frozen and sometimes they can be a lot harder to get to release. Lots of people really bad mouth the flame start assist because of it leaking, well it can sprout a leak once in awhile but usually easily fixed and I have never found a better cold weather starting assist and its a lot less prone to be abused like ethyr can! I have a full caold weather cover for my truck and that in itself makes a world of difference for heating the cab, I also relocated my heater from under the hood to inside the cab like the A3s have, that also makes a tremendous difference in the efficiency of the heater unit. I know your from TN and dont really need these suggestions much but for anybody else who operated these trucks in cold weather every little bit helps!

    From the land of maple syrup coated moose, I don't think anyone should mock the cold you get down there. When you're not used to it, it just sucks for anyone. But for someone who had Christmas in the 70's you're dealing just fine with single digits. Have fun!

    Thanks so much for doing these videos, I like the way you explain things. I’m an army vet but have been away from that for many years but I’m about to be a Duece owner unless I get an M35A1.
    I hate to say but because where I live I’ve got to get it bobbed, in order to get around on the high mountain roads that are very narrow, and a drop off below. Not all the roads are like that here but there are many.
    IDE like to see more Duece videos. Even maintenance or driving or events..

    I'd love to get a Deuce but thanks for all your Deuce videos really enjoy them. We have about 2 feet of snow here in southwest Idaho right now...makes getting around quite the chore. We have a military vehicle sales company about 30 miles away and he's usually got a few deuces a few 5 tons, etc. He has a couple of 5 ton wreckers, I was thinking man if it keeps this type of weather up I should invest in a wrecker I could probably pay that truck off pretty quickly LOL. Place is called Idaho Motor Pool. Their website is the same just all one word and of course the www and .com LOL.

    Know all about the pains of operating military canvas top vehicles in cold temps. Live in Maine and used to rebuild Humvees and other open topped trucks for the National Guard. Try doing shop trash duty in a open top two man Hummer. Not cool. Had to usually bundle up like an eskimo. Pitied the guys whose job it was to road test them after complete rebuilds. Model 900 Trucks were the worst to go riding in during the winter.

      I will say that was odd to me, I live in Utah and all last winter mine fired up just like it does in the summer. only difference it it takes 2 times as long for the engine to come up to temp.

  • @greathornedowl3644
    @greathornedowl3644 Před 4 lety

    Single digits, 13F, to Minnesota sounds like tee-shirt and shorts weather! Remember the early 80's diesel trucks and Suburbans left running all-day when the temp was below zero (oh the high today is -10F after -20F overnight). Remember gas heaters in the old VW Bug or Thing - we require heat if not just to defrost the windshield. Winter driving rules whether front-wheel, four-wheel, or six-wheel drive, low down, allow for extra stopping distance, and when you start to slide aim for something cheap.

  • @mikepaul2485
    @mikepaul2485 Před 7 lety

    I live in Pennsylvania and have a deuce so I start mine in cold weather a lot. I noticed that when you used the heater you where not rolling over the engine which is very bad. That is a flame heater it sprays whatever fuel you have in the tank on a heating element in the intake and shoots a flame into the intake. You can destroy your intake by running it without the engine turning over to suck the heat and flame into the engine. My parking brake freezes like that all the time and the heater is only good to keep the windshield from icing over or fogging.

    • @deuceandguns
      @deuceandguns  Před 7 lety +1

Looking around we all were covered in RED. We said Holy Shit did you get hit. We proceeded to feel our wounds and then upon smelling and licking our hands we realized the cans of berries had all exploded. Do those floors ever get hot.

      Some Deuces don't have anything at all except the crazy high compression ratio. Some have the flame heater that basically starts a small fire in the intake, and some like mine have an ether injection system. You can see me use it at 3:30. In the south it rarely gets cold enough to make diesel gel so I don't really worry about it but maybe some diesel enthusiasts from the north can answer the cold weather diesel treatments question.

    Nice truck. I've wanted a M109A3 for years, still do...I just can't seem to get it done.
    Any thoughts on that model?
    .....BTW, "Cemetery."....."(what shop)?"
    I can't make out what you said over that awesome purring engine.

      @deuceandguns  Před 7 lety +1

      I like the M109A3. They still have the old Multi fuel engine and can be built into a go anywhere camper pretty easily. Above the cemetery is a butcher shop.

    • @FordS-O-S
      @FordS-O-S Před 4 lety

      That shift pattern from what i've been told is, when you you have people riding with you and in 5th gear you can't knock it out of gear. My 1962 deuce and a half has the gasoline engine and the shift pattern is like a normal 5 speed with it down near the seat.

    • @deuceandguns
      @deuceandguns  Před 7 lety

      Right now I'm still using Contour as my action cameras. They were at one time a decent cheaper Go Pro alternative but they've started to show their age. I'm now looking at the YI 4K action cameras as a replacement because I just can't bring myself to pay the $400+ each (and I usually run 2-3 at once) for a top of the line Go Pro that I'll eventually probably lose or run over with the Deuce.

      DEUCE AND GUNS Ya good point. I have these go pro knock offs I use for paintball and they are made by the same Chinese factory that makes go pros and are pretty much the same thing as go pros but only cost $60
