True they were supported by the 1st Battalion 2nd Chasseurs of the Old Guard HOWEVER, they were well back in echelon and when the attack failed they withdrew in good order and cuffed aside any who had the arrogance to attack them. TL;DR the 1st Foot Guard were awarded Bearskins for their "role" in "repulsing" the Grenadiers of the Old Guard at Waterloo. Never happened.

You really should read about his campaign in Spain. That was a bloodbath and a long chain of horrible atrocities. He was a tyrant. Though a charismatic one
@@nicolafiliber3062 You are speaking of the Spanish War of Independence, 1808-1814? As you know, Napoleon's enemy was not Spain or Portugal but the UK and its maritime empire. Not unlike present day Ukraine vs. Russia, most Spaniards rejected French rule and fought a bloody war to oust them. The “Coalition” led by the Brits provided whatever supplies they could get to the Spanish, while the Spanish guerrillas destroyed vast numbers of Napoleon's troops. According to Wikipedia, the war on the peninsula lasted until the Coalition defeated Napoleon in 1814, and is regarded as one of the first wars of national liberation. In June 1812, Napoleon set out with a massive army on an invasion of Russia and reached Moscow in September 1812. But could not stay because all resources to supply the army had been destroyed by the tsarists (In Russia it is known as the “Patriotic War”). In Spain, in 1812-1814, a combined army led by Wellesley was able to defeat the remaining elements of the French forces (Salamanca, Madrid, Bayonne…).
