Rex successfully and elaborately mooches a new expression of Daniel's all-time favorite whiskey. Big thanks to Grant Ballentine for the bottle. Cheers you MB!
My favorite bang for the buck bourbon is Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Favorite scotches are Dewars 12 for budget, Bunnahabhain 12 for mid priced, and Ardbeg CORRYVRECKAN for pricey. When I was starting out, a few good recommendations went a long a way.
Thomas Buck I used to mix the rare breed with Dr Pepper in college (feel free to judge. I do it to myself) I have my eye on an ardbeg to try. But I’m not sure if I’ll like it. I haven’t ever tried anything like how they describe it. So guess I’ll figure it out. I’m limiting myself to a bottle a week for now.
Welcome! You've come to the right place. This is an incredibly supportive community and I'm sure any questions, requests, or concerns that you have will be met with openness and inclusivity. Here's hoping you have the same experience that I've had. Cheers.
Start with laphroaig select cask for the smoky stuff it’s what opened the door for me then go on to the 10 or an ardbeg for that full Peaty smack in the face
This ep is a perfect example of why I enjoy the vault so much. Daniel and Rex have such a gift of explaining exactly what the whiskey tastes like from both an educational and an entertaining way. Comparing and contrasting a pimp with a fashionista is such a wonderful way to say one whiskey has all the elements while the other whiskey took those elements and put them together into a refined and interesting package. I am on the Road to Cicerone and I find these vault videos incredibly helpful in improving my own skills in presenting and introducing others to the wide world of craft beer. Cheers to you two magnificent bastards!
Thanks for the content D&R, ive switched my pallet from beer to scotch hear recently and I'm truly lucky that I stumbled upon your channel...I've subjectively jumped from this to that based on smell and taste when it comes to scotch, and ive got a lot of crawling left before I walk, but I recently have switched from a Glennfiddich 14, to a Glennfidich 12 and now to Dalmore 12 which I truly enjoy! I really enjoyed what the dalmore brought to the table with the smoothness
I just got my first whiskey. It is Evan Williams Black label. I got it for $29 in Canada Ontario. First I am going to try it on the rocks and then go for a nice Evan and coke. Thanks to the whiskey tribe for getting me out of my comfort zone with rum! (Drink Safe everyone)
This sounds so like my thing. My favourite now is Arran 10 and it almost feels like you're describing what I get from that one. Super sweet and gentle at first but then it ramps up in spice and continues to grow after it goes down and as it dissipates, breathing in through the mouth I even find coconut there. God it's so pretty.
I met this whisky in 2017 in Argentina. In 2018 I went to there back again ans bought 2 more bottles. As this whisky is not exported to Brazil, and it is one of my favourite drams, now I have 3 bottles in my collection. And every friend that comes to my house and tastes it, loves it. I really like this dram. And also, the notes that Rex and Daniel are talking about, they are really possible to be felt. A typical speyside single malt!
So we need a new Poor Man's then, if the new Longmorn 16 lacks the youth pepper could you blend the new 16 with the Distiller's Choice to make the old 16.
See we think we’re watching a review on a good whiskey, but actually we are watching a clinic on how to mooch. Rex just executed the perfect mooch and got Longmorn 16 out of it. Beautiful!
You guys should try Stauning whisky from Denmark. They produce everything themselves, the mash, the grain and so on. They have some really tasty whiskys.
So true that you taste it differently when it's an intentional moment. Not always a cheers to a fallen comrade though. A heartfelt cheers among friends can do it too.
I have been hanging on to a bottle of Longmorn 16 for the past 4 years. I recently went into a liquor store and saw a bottle on sale for $250. That's great for me but overpriced. It just went from a whisky I look forward to opening in the future to one I will just sell.
Hey guys, love the content been catching up on so many vids. I have to ask. Longmorn is Daniels favorite. But he is also very fond of talisker 10. So does new longmorn still beat out talisker or does talisker beat the new longmorn 16?
Longmorn 16 is one of only 2 bottles that I returned to total wine after trying it. I did think it was good and I see why people would love it, but I didn't think it was worth the $125 I paid for it.
One of my biggest regrets in life was that I had the opportunity to buy two bottles of the green Longmorn 16 back in 2017. I had JUST gotten into whisky, and I was a broke college student, so fronting the cash for a bottle that price seemed like way to much. Knowing what I know now, I would have bought both and sold one to make my money back. Hardest newbie tax I’ve ever had to pay.😣
AAARRRRGGGGG!!! SONOVOM(cork sound) MIX the DISTILLERS CHOICE WITH THE NEW LONGMORN 16!!!! AAAAAAAUUUUGGGGGGG!!! *sigh* I'm calm. Wooooooosaaaiii......
Watching this episode and wondering - Would Daniel give the specifics of the bottle he likes so much? Surely there’s another out there somewhere? (Even if it’s locked up somewhere in Scotland to find). Like a Magnificent Bastard treasure hunt!
Recently finished my longmorn 16, a tragedy it's not available anymore, will give this one a try. Have you guys tried the 16 Yr Scapa? Definitely my favourite though almost impossible to get now, closely followed by Glen Scotia 18, thankfully still available. Great review.
Stumbled across a dusty bottle of Scapa 16 few months ago the problem will be finding a special enough reason to open it 😩🤩 Purple box Longmorn 16 is available to me as well but a brown box find would be amazing! The hunt continues…
Probably too late getting to this and won't likely get an answer: Longmorn is unfortunately not available near me but how the flavour profile was described reminds me of my bottle of balblair 05. Would you say these are actually particularly similar at all?
OK, this may be a dumb question but it popped into my mind when you said the new 16 is older than the old 16... - Can a company deliberately label a whiskey younger than it actually is? I mean, the rule is the label has to be the number of the youngest whiskey in the mix. But can you mix, for example, 5 15+ years old whiskeys and then label the bottle lower than 15?
I know this is a sacrilegious question, but is there a similar channel that focuses on tequila? They obviously wont have the same caliber of hosts, but I do want to explore tequila.
How do we go about getting whiskeys to you? I’ve got a couple in mind from Alabama that I think y’all will find interesting. And it’s not the one that says Alabama “style” but isn’t made in Alabama, it’s an actual Alabama whiskey.
I like this. I wonder what your opinion is going to be. Today I received a 17 year old longmorn from signatory vintage. Whats your favorite whisky daniel? Thanks you magnificant bastards
I hope those shelves of whiskey are really solid. Sometimes when you're swinging your arms, I'm just expecting you to knock down a whole shelf of whiskey and we catch tragedy in real time.
Daniel would have to let go of the bottle. Of his favorite whiskey too the alien. Which if it really liked and or enjoyed. Would lead to two worldly demands of some level for it. Which would immediately lead to empty shelves and sky rocketing prices.
I think Daniel is just stuck on the marketing of it. You mentioned how the flavors are not really up his alley, but his knowledge of this whiskey is it being a secret whiskey that only the true whiskey insiders and distillers are aware of and on top of...that's gold...anyone who then identifies as a whiskey insider and distiller as a core part of their identity is liable to be swayed into treasuring and appreciating it, even if they wouldn't like it if you put it in a J&B bottle or did a blind tasting.
@@danielwhittington826 Touche. I did not remember that about your longmorn story...had thought it was introduced to you as the hidden gem. I stand corrected....though the idea of clever marketing winning you over is a beautiful story to me too.
John Wayne's son contracted with Wild Turkey (I believe) to produce the Duke bourbon. I last tried it about five years ago. If you want a bar room brawl in your mouth, try Balcones Rye.

Talking about noticing things, the Lagavulin 16 on the wall has been replaced with Laphroaig for the last few episodes. Emma strikes again!
