Apparently part of the Chapel floor was a door, all you had to do was open the door and throw people into the hole. @@marhawkman303 I find the story to be very odd.. First of all they found a modern watch in it, so the original story might be a total fabrication. Was the pit or storage space, used by the Darby family to hide murder victims, based around the occult? The family was very rich and powerful and it's not uncommon to have human sacrifices and murders with elite, well connected occult obsessed families, like the Darby's. I think the pit was a hiding place for a big family secrets rather then some twisted late medieval tail. The bones where taken away, before a proper examination could take place. I'm willing to bet that they where children. It's possible that the Hole was used for this, but NOT likely considering the awful smell that it would cause the family living there. Also it was more then likely used to hide and store things as well as prisoners. But they had other buildings and properties to do this. They normally didn't show mercy to people who fell into there hands. So the story looks like a Darby fairy tale.

I am very curious about it because if a watch from 1890 was discovered in there it suggests that it was last used less than 40 years before its discovery meaning the person who last threw someone in could still have been alive at the time of discovery. Shame it wasn't discovered in more modern times when it would have been thoroughly investigated and catalogued. Even in 1922 archeology was very slap dash with artefacts being just sold off or stolen and little care in preservation.

    Story time: I first heard about Leap Castle from an episode of a show called Truth or Scare. It was a documentary series on Discovery Kids hosted by Michelle Trachtenberg that talked about ghost, creatures, and other fear related topics. It fascinated but never really scared me.
    Until the segment on Leap Castle in the episode "Castle Ghosts of Ireland." I have no idea how, but they managed to make something so terrifying to kid me, who could get through Jaws and Jurassic Park perfectly fine, that it took me and my sister three tries to get through it. The bumper for the final segment, showcasing their portrayal of the Elemental... oh my god, how was that in something for kids?
    Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane!

      @@Mayakran would you please share some stories?

    • @Mayakran
      @Mayakran Před 3 lety +4

      Adrian hmmm, well there’s quite a bit to explain in a youtube comment, but I’ll share some things as they come to mind (DAMN this got long!!!). The house, while relatively new (built 1984), has always had a weird “vibe” to it-I grew up constantly feeling like I was exposed or being watched (kind of like when you’re sitting with your back to an open doorway). When I was little, my mom said I would cry and tell her about the “tall dark man in the hallway” who “doesn’t like her,” and I would chalk this up to childhood stress (there was a great deal of...domestic turbulence, shall we say, going on at the time) if my adult extended family hadn’t also told my mom they were uncomfortable in the house and had “seen things.”
      When I was older, I was sitting on the couch with my mother and I saw the outline of what I thought was my sister looking at me from the stairs. I stood up to yell at her for eavesdropping on a private conversation and then I realized it was NOT my sister. This thing was gray and brown and it had been leaning over on all fours staring at us. When I yelled at it, it sat back and disappeared. I was pretty shocked to say the least, and while my mother didn’t see anything, we both heard a huge crash/boom upstairs which upon investigation had no identifiable source.
      Two weeks later I was watching TV and I looked over and saw the thing again, about the size of a German Shepherd, it was that same indistinct brown and gray mass but standing on all fours this time. I stood up and shouted at it and it turned and ran back up the stairs. Yeah, nope. (Note: would have thought this was just all a hallucination if it weren’t for the fact that my cats were also visibly spooked by something).
      I haven’t seen this thing since (thank god), but in the mid 2000’s when my sister was going through a very bad time, my friends started being reluctant to come over because our house “was creepy.” One friend said a figure was standing in the window watching him as he came up to the house, but the problem is there was a desk pushed up against that window and no one could be standing there.
      It got REALLY bad when my sister (bipolar and suicidal), who had APPARENTLY been trying to talk to demons (.....why, girl?) “told the demons to go into the cats.” I thought she was full of it but then one cat suddenly died of heart failure and a couple days later we found the other lying in the backyard half eaten (probably by a coyote or sth). Obviously it could have been a coincidence but things were REALLY heavy in the house at this point (our pastor believed she was under demonic oppression) and I was so afraid at night I’d sometimes sleep in my car or at a friend’s house. Door knobs would rattle, things would go missing, and I’d wake up to see dark figures in my room. One night a couple years later I was walking to the bathroom in the dark and a black shape rushed across my path from the right. I told myself it was my cat, but I turned on the light and there was nothing there, and then my cat ran in from the right as though he had been chasing this... thing. So nope, not my cat and not my imagination. Cool!
      Sorry if this isn’t particularly scary or interesting-they’re not the “typical” haunted house stories, but I strongly believe that this is in large part due to my mother. I believe that the only reason things didn’t escalate into a full-blown “haunting” is because she, a devout Christian, would stand at the bottom of the stairs and ask for blessings and protection for the house and its inhabitants every night. I believe that it’s her faith that kept things as calm as they were.
      As kind of a side note, there’s been a lot of tragedy and premature deaths (suicides, murder, bizarre accidents, a lot of mental illness) in my family on my father’s side, and it’s a theory of my cousin’s (a very intelligent man in US military intelligence) that certain phenomena and entities can follow families, both feeding off of and encouraging negativity and destruction (for what it’s worth, a woman with the “gift of discernment” confirmed this when she said our problem is a generational one). It just seems unusually easy for members of our family to “make contact”-my cousin once contacted a demonic entity in a Ouija board which caused a whole crazy ride I won’t go into here. When I was messing with a “Charlie Charlie” APP (yes, as in on the phone, it’s ridiculous I know) my friend’s dog went absolutely apeshit and started barking and growling at the ceiling (very unusual behavior for him). I once did a little “goodbye ritual” for a deceased relative at a friend’s house and my friend’s mom was pissed because they started getting footsteps on the gravel and tapping on her windows at night (oops). Idk, I know the paranormal and supernatural are easily dismissed, and spooky “feelings” aren’t fact, but if things like this do exist and I’m not just imagining things, I believe that there are dark things following me and my family.
