I remember when I was saying "Na3Li3" from my textbook , please remember I am in England .
There is a term "Gnarly " which is used by surfers .
My son reproached me as he looked at me sternly and told me . "Dad no one says gnarly anymore ."
I was left confused and wondered what I had said . 🤣

I have found that 哪里 doesn't always mean "where".
It could mean "how could it possibly be" in a rhetorical question.
In other words, it states that it's not possible.
So 哪里哪里 means "how could I possibly be (as good as you say)"
    (It's not possible)

    他哪里有这么多朋友?
This doesn't necessarily mean "Where does he have so many friends?"
It could mean "How could he possibly have so many friends?" (It's not possible.)
(A rhetorical question doesn't expect an answer.)

If I wanted to know "Where does he have so many friends?"
I think I would use 在哪里 which definitely means "at what location".
    他在哪里有这么多朋友?(This question expects an answer.)

How do you respond to compliments on your belongings?

    • @MandarinEssentials
      @MandarinEssentials  Před 28 dny +1

This is a great question! There could be different ways to respond, depending on the type and value of this object. Examples:
      For apparels or smaller items:
      -还行,随便买的 (It's alright, I just bought it.)
-这个穿着特别舒服,你要链接吗?( It fits comfortably. Do you want the link (to this shop)?)
      -谢谢+return a compliment
for more expensive objects (electronic devices, vehicle .etc)
      -谢谢+return a compliment
-谢谢+1-2 sentences that comment on this object
