We have a guy who couldn’t get a game at Manchester City being the main man on a team surrounded around overpaid mercenaries who are on 10+ year contracts and he was responsible for majority of their attacking output whether he was scoring, creating chances and plays for himself and teammates. Do you know just how impressive this is, some have found ways to downplay his performances calling him a “penalty merchant” think that his form last season was just a “purple patch” and think that he wouldn’t be this good if he wasn’t playing for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. People need to realize that a goal is a goal and while he did score a lot of penalties and didn’t miss a single one, that alone didn’t boost his numbers and if it was so easy to score a penalty, then many players would’ve never missed a penalty that they took and for periods of the season he has shown that his form wasn’t a fluke at all. If you think that playing on Manchester City is why he’s so good, I don’t know what to tell you and while yes they were a stacked team filled with talent in multiple positions, Palmer wasn’t good enough to break into the team on a regular basis and he knew that he would be a starter elsewhere since he wanted to go out on loan, Pep said that he should either stay or they sell him on a permanent basis and they did the latter. In any other season with him having over 40 G/A, if Chelsea was competing for the premier league title and they were playing in the champions league, he would easily be a “Ballon Dor contender”. Next season he’ll be under pressure to maintain his form and prove that he’s a world class player and not a “one season wonder” because he isn’t world class after one season even though he had more goals and assists than the likes of Phil Foden Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka on a weaker team compare to them. With the way he’s playing, is there truly room for him in England’s best starting lineup for the EUROs when everyone is fit because he has to play whether it’s as a right winger or a CAM and what Gareth Southgate does with him will be interesting to see what he does with him. Whatever you think of this team, the fact that Palmer one of the most in form players in the world might not even start for the England national team at the EUROs when he would start for any country in the world tells you how stacked their team is.
