    The code series all deliver such great tone. I run mine through a direct input box and the tracks always scream marshall. I can't believe digital can sound this close to tube amps without all the insane power use and no blown tubes. No temperaments valves . They boot up in like thirty seconds and have USB outputs. great deal for the money. Well thought out controls and great classic tones . I sound like a commercial. They just sound that good in production use and are great for playing gigs as well .

    Left out the best, the Peavey Vypyr Pro 100, but the best ever and it can be bought for very very little $ now is the Vypyr Tube 60, the amps and effects sound exactly what they were modeled on to the point where if you selected the Fuzz out of the stompbox bank of effects(has a stompbox bank and another bank which would be like running them through the FX loop) and put it through the Fender and then the Plexi amp models you can hear the differences and how they would sound through the real amps, and the hidden gem of that amp and all those first gen Vypyr amps(haven't tried it on the Pro 100 but it cant be worse) and especially the Tube 60 & 120 versions is the USB out for recording, would love to see a video of the battle of the budget amps from like 10 years ago and take people back in time and maybe further and show these kids how stuff was back in the day(could do so many videos with that concept!)

    I have a great question for you.. I just invested in a 2023 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard. I want to obviously get the most out of this guitar. My concern with modeling amps is that I wasted money on a great guitar when any guitar would sound awesome through a modeling amp. I feel like I have to buy a tube amp to get my money's worth out of the guitar. My biggest question for you is- these tube amps say they have a line output that "simulates" the sound from the speaker. Does that mean the line out is a digital representation of a tube amp? Or is it a real analog output using the tubes?
    I just don't know. I feel like I bought way too much guitar and now I can't benefit from a modeling amp.
    If you have any feedback I'd LOVE to hear it. Thanks for your time.

Should I get speakers for the Line6 so I can actually hear it or will it come through the combo amp if I plug Line6 in? Can anyone describe to me, in detail, what are some good combo amps or speakers or whatever for my situation and what features and details they have? in the software\firmware area, I keep wondering if instead of multiple amps, cabs, reverb\echo and modulation effects, A single amplifier head could be developed that did what that amp does\did\should do. You plug in your favorite cabs, and yes impedance makes a difference. It won't blow up though.

      Fender was doing that at the time of your comment more or less with their Tone Master amps. Tbh, as long as you're talking about pro level modeling (which at the Fenders' price point you certainly are) there's basically no advantage to doing that. Regular multi-fx are more than capable of modeling amps in basically a component to component basis (think Helix or Axe-FX quality) while also packing a slew of models for comparable costs. Unless you're really driven by the aesthetic of old amps or absolutely hate digital UIs and tinkering, there's no reason to pick an amp like you mention.

    @whatwouldhousedo5136 Před 6 lety +9

    Katana is not a modelling amp. It's a dedicated solid-state amp. The acoustic channel is NOT an acoustic simulator; it is a specific circuit for plugging in an actual acoustic guitar, so you have a real acoustic amplifier built into the electric amp.

      WhatWouldHouseDo It is a modeling amp indeed

    • @whatwouldhousedo5136
      @whatwouldhousedo5136 Před 6 lety +2

      Sorry to have to disagree with you man, but it is not a modelling amp. A modelling amp by its very definition is designed to closely replicate, or "model", a specific make of amp. An example would be a SuperChamp X2 modelling a bunch of different classic Fender designs. Or the Fractal having all its particular amp designs such as the Rectifier or 5150, or the Vox having the AC30 model- designed to emulate those specific amplifiers. The Katana is not designed to do that; it is simply a solid-state amplifier, in the same way a Peavey Bandit or a JC120 is. None of the channels on the Katana are designed to sound like any specific amp. I suppose the argument could potentially be made for the Brown channel- although it is designed to have the characteristics of a type of sound, not a specific amp. The effects circuitry in the Katana IS digital modelling- those effects are named as being models of specific pedals. But the actual amplifier signal chain (preamp, power structure, etc) outside of the effects is not digital- it is analog, same as the Bandit or JC120 mentioned above, or countless other non-tube based analog amps over the years. So the Katana creates its tones in the same way that most overdrive pedals do- analog circuitry.
      Which leads to another thing- a lot of people on CZcams hack on the Katana because it's not a tube amp- yet those same people will praise the tones of SRV, Mayer, Hendrix, Iommi, Gallagher, Rhoads, Brian May, or whoever, all of whom used analog overdrive/boost pedals to help obtain their great tones.

  • @melvoid01
    @melvoid01 Před 6 lety +7

    You need the fx loop on thee Katana and some others here for using a looper pedal properly, which is why id have the 100w even tho I would prefer to have a 50w, cos the 50 does not have the fx loop or extra footswitch option, still a brilliant amp tho.
    But those Yamaha's are "tres magnifiqe".

    • @wilsonfisk6156
      @wilsonfisk6156 Před 6 lety

      melvoid01 cant you just buy loop pedal? I m new here so..

    • @melvoid01
      @melvoid01 Před 6 lety +3

      Without an FX loop you will have to use the loop pedal in front of the amp, not in itself a problem except that you will only get the sound of any pedals in front of the loop pedal in your loops, you wont get the use of the onboard effects for your loops, the loop pedal records what goes in to it.
      So you would still want pedals in front of your modelling amp, which you bought for all the onboard effects.
      Or more to the point you could record a loop but you would not be able to change the sound of anything you played over the top of it.
      Hope that makes sense.

      Same here, I had to trade my katana 50 for the 100 just because of the fx loop for my beat buddy pedal. Very happy though

      I have the Marshall code 100 combo, using the blue tooth app, you can save your settingsto the hand held device without altering the amp. sweet. it also has an effects loop and a speaker out option so you can use a 4 x 12 if you feel the need. I love it.

    I really want a Fender GT40 but the review have not been great. It does sound a bit muted compared to other amps.

      Rylan Storm FWIW, I have the 200w version. No problem with any muted sounds.

    How could you put a Fender Mustang GT ? It sucks, the Mustang III & IV Blows the GT away. I played both & own a Mustang GT with an upgraded Swamp Thang speaker. Wonderful amp. I also love the Boss Katana 100W combo. Blues On....

      Sir Dagan does not choose , he lets the amp choose him.

    is the line 6 spider v 120 any good compared to these???

    • @Kram_Nebula
      @Kram_Nebula Před 4 lety

      you probably made your decision already but if someone else is thinking about Line 6, DON"T DO IT they just aren't made well and while the features are nice the don't hold up. They're known for overheating and cutting out. Save your money and buy something else ( I have a Line 6 Spider 112 Valve behind me that lasted 3 years before it just started cutting out randomly)

    Curiosity question from all amp users (especially these models): Anyone here use the headphone jacks? If so, is the sound quality improved, diminished, or equivalent to the speaker? Also, I would assume the use of the jack would disengage the speaker, correct? My headphones are solid (Sennheiser PXC 450) and there's a 9 month old in the house who I would prefer to NOT wake from naps. Any thoughts/comments are appreciated.

    • @ripleyharvey333

      I don't use one one of these amps but it is a Yamaha and when I plug the headphone jack in it diminishes the sound quality and seems to make it distorted and as if the bass has been turned up. But then I don't use proper music headphones sooo...
      Hope that helps

    Not a bad review, BUT what about controls? Some of us may want to use amps live, and you failed to mention footswitches, control capabilities etc. Serious fail, in my opinion.
