- "Kendjam- Heart of the Amazon" is a 15-minute film featured in the 64th edition of Catch Magazine. Catch Magazine is the online journal illustrating the world's best fly fishing photography and film. The making of "Kendjam" took filmmaker Todd Moen and his angler deep into the Brazilian Amazon to meet a special group of people, the Kayapó Indigenous Community, and to document the fly fishing in this part of the Amazon.
More than 500 miles by plane from Manaus, Brazil, the Kayapó Indigenous Community lives in the Kendjam Village on the banks of the Iriri River, a tributary of the "emerald clear" Xingu River Basin. Located inside the 20 million square miles of Amazon forest, the Mekrangnoti Indigenous Territory is designated an Ecological Reserve and is the most isolated region in the Brazilian Amazon.
Together with Untamed Angling, the Kayapó people are preserving both their cultural legacy and the legacy of their rainforest. In a time when logging, mining, and politicians have heavy influence on the future of Brazil's jungles, it's important to take a step closer and look at the people who live in those important contested areas. The Kayapó people, known as warriors and fierce guardians of their homeland, have made a name for themselves- their voice is being heard worldwide. The purpose of this film is to honor their unique cooperation with the fly fishing industry. In addition, "Kendjam" documents a fly fishing adventure from the perspective of an American angler. Thank you first to the Kayapó Indigenous people in the Kendjam Village, the river guides and warriors who shared their culture and led the camera into some wild and remote adventures. Thank you also to Untamed Angling's Rodrigo Salles and guides Andre Vergara and Raphael Costa, the true conduits of this phenomenal project. Beautiful footage! I also work with the CX350 and wondering what you did to get such a rich look out of the camera. Did you shoot in HLG and color grade, or was this out of camera with a picture profile? If you color graded, did you use a specific LUT or was it manual adjustments? Thanks in advance!
Hi Sean, Thanks for the message. I shot HLG the whole time during this production. I use FCP to cut my projects using no LUTs. I choose the color space override of Rec2020 and manually adjust everything.
@@CatchMagazine Thanks so much for the info. Such a nice look. Makes me fall more in love with the camera knowing what it's capable of. I have my moments of buyer's remorse when I compare mirrorless cameras with larger sensors but I really love working with a real camcorder. As long as it's not a low light situation, I feel confident using the cx350. Having access to HLG is great. Now if only i can learn to color grade as well as you :)
