We’ll have to get our land legs back after shooting today’s video on the deck of the S.S. John W. Brown, one of two remaining fully-functional World War II Liberty ships! Made at Bethlehem Fairfield Shipyard, the John W. Brown came back in 1988 to again call Baltimore its home. Please enjoy and we’ll see you later this week with another episode.
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Twice a week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and website

I went aboard the SS John W Brown August 1998 she was in port Charleston, South Carolina. I was a Perry Officer 1st Class aboard the USS South Carolina (CGN-37). The So Car's last port call before she was Decommissioned just a few months later. Sadly being a Nuke ship they had to cut her up. One must be a sailor to understand the attachment one get to their ship. But is wonderful to know that some ships survive the and are not lost to time.

I don't see the Liberty Ship as ugly, I see it as beautiful in its utilitarian simplicity.
The John W. Brown did a total of 13 missions.
