  • Turnout may seem like a simple idea, it's actually pretty complex!
Understand why do you need to turn out for classical ballet. And if you don't have one, she will continue your career in classical ballet.

I’m sad to see that my previous comment got removed.
No child should ever be physically ‘forced’ to do anything.
If you really want to improve turnout then first get an assessment/ speak to a physiotherapist (possibly a sports massage therapist) and seek the help of a strength and conditioning coach with some knowledge of ballet/ dance to strengthen the available range.
Forcefully stretching will stretch the tissues that are already more mailable and will likely not address the route of the lack of rotation. Dance science has moved on a lot and we should be seeking the help of these experts - especially when it comes to the care of children.
IADMS . ORG have free resources on turnout and are a great place to find reputable evidence based information.

You either have natural turnout or you don't. I had natural turnout , as a child , at age 4 or so, I naturally slept with my feet together and my knees flat out---- as I got a little older, I would lie down with my legs crossed in yoga "lotus " pose, as it was just comfortable ----I later found out my standing turn out was perfect--- again wasn’t even aware what "ballet turnout " was! When I was 6 yrs old I took tap, --- the teachers noticed my turnout , BUT.... my feet were FLAT ,long and very narrow- very low and shallow arches------so never could dance ballet.
But I agree with some people on here that no child should force their students to turnout ---- it will start to ruin their knees first, and hips secondly !!!!
