What is needed:
1. Computer with an internet connection & a Windows OS
2. Android Phone with gyroscope (Galaxy S6 and above recommended 2023 )
3. Head-mount phone display like Google Cardboard or Open Dive

Runs on my laptop with an NVIDIA 930MX! Galaxy S9 for the screen, Google Daydream headset and a PS4 controller. It's a struggle but it's functional!

There are a ton of apps that can accomplish this but this is the only 100% free method I am aware of. As always if someone finds a better free option share it here in the comments and I will test it out.

It's not that it is not enough it's that nolo home is more compatible with Nvidia chipsets. If serious about getting this working I'd try an AMD 2022 driver to test.

Sony XZ2 Premium: IPS, ppi ~800, but the presence of an additional white pixel. Is bad. Not suitable for VR.
Modern smartphones have a much lower ppi. At the same time, their matrices are OLED, which will entail a pentail.
There are so many phones with varying hardware. Not to mention that this software is very picky. You may have better luck checking forums and or just contacting their support directly.
What is the vr headset you're wearing in the video? It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the description.

What kind of latency are you looking at with the wifi?
Is it noticable and to what degree would you say ?
note that the wifi needs to be 5GHz. The only time I noticed latency issues was when I was also streaming a movie also over wifi on the TV while also trying to test this. once I turned off the TV it went back to normal. This is heavily dependent on your graphics card , phone wifi chipset and router used. If this doesn't work out for you I suggest dropping the money for iVRy. With iVRy you are paying for better compatibility & stability.
Can i connect by usb have faster response and refrashrate and install 4 cheap camera for hand tracking and buy 2 controller make like real expensive vr ..answer to question $10
1. Connecting via USB-c or usb 3 helps with latency and compression used.
2. For hand tracking on a home brew setup you have a few options. I could seriously make 10 videos on that alone.
For starters you have 3DOF & 6DOF, almost all the homebrew stuff is 3DOF which would exclude game like half life Alyx, but works nice in VR chat and beat saber.
Option A $6.99 requires 2 phones and an xbox kinect:
use android phones as controller using VRidge Controller $6.99 USB, and then a Kinect to add the extra degrees of movement

great video,i have a question if there is any free method to track my hands to play games like gorilla tag or vr chat?
As stated in the video there are numerous ways to track movement and controller. For VR chat a webcam or xbox kinect works best for full body and using a standard controller for general menu changes. For gorilla tag I am uncertain as I have not tried 3 degree wii controllers on this game.

Unfortunately this nolo thing thinks my graphics version is too modern and therefore isn't compatible, such a bummer. Looks like this soft wasn't updated for a while
I know some have had better luck using older drivers for their graphics cards. All I can tell you is that the software tends to like Nvidia better. Below are the cards I have personally tested and gotten working.

As far as free software not that I am aware of. however iVRy is the cheapest and most stable I know of but have not personally tested on anything other than a geforce 1050 and 3060

I can't find the Nolo VR app download on the website. I tried scanning the QR code but sends me to a timeout page.

is it possible to use other android phones/console controllers to emulate a vr controller or use webcams for hand-tracking for free without apps like driver4vr or other paid alternatives.
depends on what you are using it for. For VRchat you can turn old android phones into slime trackers. Or you can use Amethyst and an xbox Kinect for full body tracking. however if gaming and things like hand position and wii motes your only half way decent option is driver4vr.

For some reason, Nolo Home says my RX 6750 XT isn't good enough, even though it's way above the RX560 listed. Any suggestions?

there is no way to download the apk home app and Nolo says that i don't meet the minimal requirements because I got windows 11 and the minimum is windows 7... Make it make sense.
I can only confirm it works on 7, 8 and 10. Never tried it on 11. As for the site link being down or dead I have added some mirror links in the description.
Does it do head movement tracking (if phone supports it)?
it uses the phones gyroscope and accelerometer. So looking up, down, turn left , turn right , tilt to the side left & right. For additional movement such as head position while leaning in or bending over you will require a webcam or kinect bar.
I was mainly concerned about motion sickness, so if it uses the gyroscope then that's awesome, will try it out soon.@@TheThorns
headset should have arrived 5 days ago....
The sound is broadcast to the phone and there is no picture, sometimes a menu appears but it is impossible to interact with it, a black screen on the smartphone.
what type of android phone are you using and do you know the android OS version? Just curious as you are not the first to report this issue.

sounds like an IPD issue. Does your headset have an eye adjustment or are you straight up using a google cardboard? There are several tutorials on how to measure your IPD so you can adjust the lenses accordingly.
So...this half-worked for me. I have it on my smartphone, and my smartphone is connected and able to be used as a headset. the problem? the screen is blank on my smartphone. Any idea what's causing it?
Did you get the app from steam or from the site?
Also make sure the app is updated if you can.
I might have to go back and test this with the new version of steam VR.

Does this work with a sim wheel for games like asseto corsa?
If the games works with the controller than it works with the controller. Some games like borderlands allowed mouse to move head but all actions to be performed with controllers. Keep in mind this was even before the VR version.

This software favors Nvidia cards over AMD. However some have had luck using older AMD drivers. It prefers windows 10 over windows 11. Even if you have a top of the line system if you have an AMD card or are running windows 11 it may not work.
sadly it don't work, i think it wants me to connect my laptop to my router through ethernet but i got cats+ it's downstairs, so even if i set it up they will scratch break it :( i tried trinus but it doesn't work on so many devices....

How can I use it for other games than steam games
Have not tried it , as Nolo was designed to work with steam alone and it does that job well. Since I'm not at home to try this , I am making an educated guess below. Let me know if it works!
* You might want to add a non-steam game to steam library and then try and load it within VR.
Go to Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library and choose the game you want to add.
Then go into Steam VR home in VR and try to load it from your library while in VR.

Ya, that is one I have not tested. I can only vouch for x360 wired and Bluetooth OUYA controller.
What about virtual desktop?
As long as it is being done through steam VR I don't see why it wouldn't work to display. Would have to use standard keyboard and mouse without any hand motion navigation and unsure how the resolution would look. Basically will it work? sure! will it look good and be functional? unsure!

This is a free third party software that is designed for their Nolo hardware. You are just tricking it to work with DIY headset. It favors Nvidia cards over AMD. However some have had luck using older AMD drivers. It prefers windows 10 over windows 11. Even if you have a top of the line system if you have an AMD card or are running windows 11 it may not work.

I'd make sure nolo is fully updated and also restart the PC , phone and router. Many people never restart their phones and sometimes that does the trick. Best of luck.

Basically any game that doesn't require motion controllers. Lots of them out there, just use the steam filters when searching VR content.

I think it could be a very good but that all depends on your router, phone, system and comfort of the headset. For the setup in the video if I had a wheel at the time of filming I'd play it!
I tried and its pretty good but the problem i have is the stuttering when moving the head fast but i think thats the processing power of the phone im using

depends on the glitches and what game is being used. Please note this is very finicky. It prefers NVidia cards over ATI. also tends to work better on windows 10 versus Windows 11, and if your phone specs aren't at least as good as a Samsung Galaxy s6 or s8 I wouldn't even bother.
the error 404 link pops up when i try to download nolo home vr on my android
if using chrome try firefox, also may want to clear history on browser. Just tried it and it worked fine for me in USA. Make sure you follow my steps.

Is nolo home entirely free? And can it use Nintendo switch controllers
Nolo can be used for free for basic headset functionality but there will be no depth, just 3 degree of movement using the sensors on your phone. Have not personally tried the switch controllers. I know the wii controllers can be used as a standard controller and some basic motions.

have not tried the 1660 with this but I know I got this working on my 1050 ti so you should be good.
This is something you will just have to try for yourself, So many phones with different hardware.

Yes , just about any VR phone case works including google cardboard.
i hate having a pixel 7, a ton of apps aren't compatible with my phone and nolo home is one of them
Sorry to hear this & a bit surprised you can't just override it with advanced settings. Should I assume that developer options and advanced options are locked by your provider?

Make sure you are on 5ghz wifi and not 2ghz wifi. Also make sure the software is updated on the PC. If those two check out fine then you might want to try the steam version even though it takes forever to update. I personally have not tested the galaxy s22 series so if you figure it out or still fails post a comment so others know.

The gear VR is somewhat unsupported unless you jail break it. for most it is best to just buy a nice phone VR case. Also the Samsung gear VR only goes up to the galaxy s9. At least here in the USA that is when it stopped support. @@olej215

I know some have had better luck using older or original drivers for their newer graphics cards. All I can tell you is that the software tends to like Nvidia better and I'm uncertain if Nolo will update the software. Below are the cards I have personally tested and gotten working.

You using 2.4 GHz wifi or 5 GHz wifi?
If using 5 GHz I would try restating the computer , the phone and possibly the router.
Would also check to make sure Nolo PC is fully updated on the windows side of things.
Not sure if you already did these things but they are the most general things to check.

Assuming you are talking about network equipment and not internet I have to assume you are on wireless G / 2ghz wireless and not wireless 5ghz / N. Sorry if you are, can't change that requirement. Also sucks they have since turned off the cable option, something about issues with permissions being an overseas app, same old FCC regulation stuff.
Isn't Wireless G like 20 years old and wireless N over a decade by now?
I do have a 5ghz bandwidth, but the wifi at home is so bloated of everyone using it, that its impossible to keep up without a very compressed image, and even then, it just breaks and stops working, same thing with airlink streaming, even ALVR, so I'll be tethered to a cable forever...
Oh yeah and my mistake, I realize that I typed wifi instead of internet, meant to refer to my internet speed overall
It is impossible to use this, it is better to buy a full-fledged VR helmet
Compatibility is picky for this free method, however if you don't have an NVidia card and or a compatible phone iVRy on steam has better compatibility. iVry isn't free but at least you'll have working VR that imitates a CV1
Is steam vr required to play games in vr?
In this case yes! however other headsets like WMR can us stand alone games without the need for steam VR.
