Going to visit all the nations which we have only heard about in past 3 games excites me the most!
And then getting one dungeon themed to that nation? Think Winter Palace. Have you really visited Orlais, though?
Give me a break. Why dont u make the next dragon age then lol!
@@SebastiaanBenders We got to visit a lot of Orlais in Inquisition. The Dales (which includes the Exalted Plains, Emprise de Lion, and the Emerald Graves), The Arbor Wilds, The Western Approach, the Hissing Wastes, the Forbidden Oasis are all within the borders of Orlais. Did you maybe mean being able to see more of the captial, Val Royeaux? I definitely would have liked to have seen more of that city.
Why many Nations I see a lack of focus in the narrative and logical progression in storytelling.
@@Rikard_A Why can't the story take place across many different locations? Keep in mind, the nations to the north are somewhat smaller. They span the same width as Orlais and Ferelden together (Anderfels, Tevinter, Nevarra, Antiva, Rivain), so it may be more "nations" but it spans as much land as Inquisition. All of which were part of ancient Elvehnan, which is going to be a big part of the story with two of the ancient Elven gods returning from the Fade.
Its a me! Mark Darrah!
Hello You! Thanks for jumping back into Dragon Age to see it right. Tell Corrinne we want the character creator, pretty pweeeaase!
If there is something you could really NOT go wrong with is releasing the Character Creator early. If it is as robust as it is described, it will surely drive up sales and interest. I hope y'all discuss it internally and come up with a release date for the character creator. Please...
You sly silver fox.
Oh, Hi Mark! It's me! A gamer on hopium for the game.
@@cyberprogger8368 Joy can be shared by all.
I'm delighted by their focus on making the companions feel like they have agency and you're going on a journey with *them*, very much looking forward to meeting them all
I only hope it doesn't feel forced. In some games i feel like the companions wouldn't be our companions, if they could decied.
@@sayurioffenborn4960 I agree, I'm pretty optimistic because they keep saying they have their own legitimate reasons for wanting to help the cause so it sounds like they thought of that!
I completely agree. I am one of those folks who enjoys some optimization, but don’t particularly like micromanaging each element of a character’s progression and development. I’ve always wanted a set of companions who felt like they were making their own choices about who they grow to become over the course of the story and how they act on the battlefield. DA:2s underrated companion action scripting was a streamlined but effective means of achieving this, but it still had its rough spots. I hope this game leans more heavily into companions having their own preferences for action and choice and learn to operate with your other companions choices over time, similar to inclination’s effects on pawns in Dragon’s Dogma. I’m very curious to finally see Rivain and hopefully Par Volen since they are the most culturally distinct from the areas of Thedas we’ve already learned so much about previously. NGL Bellara has me intrigued too. We don’t know anything about her character, but she looks like she’s bringing the zaniness and I always appreciate that in what is usually such a grim world. But heck I liked Sera in DA: I too.
It sounds like I'm going to have to push the character creation sliders to the extremes and create a big fluffy Dwarf assassin. 4 ft tall by 4 ft wide. Somewhere between Varric and Jack Black.
Rip Tenacious D
please post that somewhere when you do, i want to see that do badly
I want to see this 😂
Combat looks like DAI multiplayer your telling me after 10 years that’s acceptable ? Literally number one complaint since DAO 3 skill moves ? If we can only control one character at least give us 4 skill moves 😂
Did they die?
Excited for this! 10 years waiting for the next game. Wishing the devs the best and I hope we get a good game after such a long time ❤
I really hope they take a chapter from dragons dogma and give us the cc before the game release 😩
Me too.
Fingers crossed.
Actually, it was dragons dogma that took a chapter from Dragon Age Origins. 😉
Two different kinds of games and storytelling even how bestha and how Oblivion and Skyrm was produced are completly different kind of games and storytelling.
Why want that all games should be same. If you want a hack and slash game then buy it. But don't conflate narrative vision.
@@Rikard_A "I really hope they take a chapter from dragons dogma and give us the cc...." 🙃
I’m so excited to finally get my hands on this game and these new characters after so long!! Good luck BioWare 💜
It looks terrible!
Yay Mark Darrah!! So glad you found your way back to the game :)
I'm genuinely so pumped. Last time a DA game came out I was able to binge it so hard. Now I have... children 😅
Binge it with them lol
Well kids need more sleep than parents, so there could be a couple of hours in there for you :p
after 25 years of gaming, ive never been as excited for any game as much as i am for veilguard.
character focus, pro-solas devs and incredible stylisation is exactly everything ive been dreaming of the last 10 years! thank you bioware
1:03 omg the music is absolutely incredible, so hyped to hear more of the game's soundtrack!
That's extremely basic, uninspired music...
@@1lapmagicI strongly disagree. The only element of it that could be described as “basic” is the film score-type style about it, yet Inquisition’s soundtrack was the same way and it was still amazing. Aside from that, it’s a very epic melodic orchestral theme that really captures the heroic vibe they’re going for, and I like it.
@@1lapmagic Agreed!
@@1lapmagic you're basic

Most important question for me: How big can i make my Elf ears?
See, this is asking the big questions we need to know.
As for myself, how many horn options do I have for Qunari? I’m going to live inside the character creator.
@@UNCKayakfish I actually think to remember that, in one of the earlier articles, they said that there are around 40 options to choose from. They were talking about horn styles as well as materials though so I am unsure what it refers to.
@@Kuummii_Excellent!
@@UNCKayakfish Oh, they had me at 'bulge slider' 😈
These are the important questions!!
Ive been a fan simce DAO came out. I fell in love with the storytelling and charscters The excitement I feel is unbelievable. The devs sounds like they care a great deal about this world & these characters im looking so forward to getting deep into the story & characters, that's what I find most exciting. Can't wait!
I’m excited for this game. It just seems like it was a very cohesive and comprehensive design philosophy for the game. It’s already on my wish list. BioWare, my birthday is in September and I would like to gift myself this game.
Oh, I’m getting even more excited about this game listening to them talk.
I really want to know pre-order info so I can get this game as soon as it comes out ❤ Everything I see is exactly what I’d want from Dragon Age.
I'M SO EXCITED I NEED A RELEASE DATE
im kind of disappointed that they are hinting towards making solas some sort of a companion right at the start of the game, it discards his whole arc and the build up we had in the trespasser not even letting us have him be the "villain" for at least some part of it. would have been better if he had a redemption arc or not depending on your choices. again, not at the start but somewhere in the middle of the game.
Why have a compelling, complex villain that we have a history with and he's not emotionally indifferent to us, when we can replace him with two more generic evil blighted gods (*cough* *cough* Coryphenus!) who want to be gods just for the sake of having a huge ego. As if that trope didn't get way more attention than it deserved already...
@@4RedJohn The Evanuris / Elven gods were established into the lore since Dragon Age Origins, unlike Corypheus. They certainly aren't 'generic' if you take the time to read any of their existing backstory.
@@4RedJohn agree on the corypheus part and how boring generic villains are and solas is a complex characters thats why it would be weird for him to literaly drop what he has been planing for years and the stuff he has done to get what he wants, sure maybe somehow he had some character development between the events of inquisition and veilguard but would be better and more personal to see an actual character arc ingame
@@icescorpion6189 tbh corypheus had a lot of potential and droped one of the hardest line of the series at the beginning of inquisition. i hope they wont screw up an another existent character that was already in the lore
@@icescorpion6189 Corypheus' backstory isn't generic either, that's not the point. They already released one trailer where they showed us Elgar'nan speaking - he acts exactly like a generic evil guy with huge ego, self-assured about his greatness. This is by no means better than Solas, who isn't a comical evil. And Dragon Age always needed this kind of villains, that's why Architect never making a return was so sad and disappointing.
Also, the fact that we will have two/three Evanuris at large, and judging by the context of the game we will easily defeat all of them in a matter of probably few months at most, while they were known for being absolute beasts combat wise, and no mere mortal could ever defy them, we're already disrespecting Evanuris lore here by making Lameguard accomplish that.
I especially love the emphasis put on a found family dynamic!
Like Dragon Age 2, that failed to do so.

It excites me to hear that so much of the focus has been on narrative, lore, and companion relationships. That is why I play Bioware games. If companion story lines are so important, and we have to complete storylines to advance our companions, and consequences are also a big deal, then I get the vibe it's going to be sort of like Virmire or Mass Effect 2's suicide run but on steroids.
I personally am not bothered by missing the top down tactical pause mode. If others are I understand... But if everything else they say is true then it seems like this game is checking 9 out of 10 boxes for reasons people usually say they love Dragon Age games.
the tactical pause and combat was very tedious in the classic Dragon Age games. Combat was by the worst aspect of every past DA game, so if Veilguard combines the combat and story into a decent experience, it will be the best DA game so far.
@@xt0t4ld34thx The pausing for combat was mostly unnecessary with tactic slots and a basic understanding of how the conditions worked.
@@BradTheAmerican I used the tactic System actually quite intensively, but it didnt convince me too much. I prefer either round-based or action Combat Systems.
@@xt0t4ld34thx the great thing about real-time with pause is that it goes as fast or as slow as the player needs it to be, and the tactic slots naturally allowed the tedious micromanaging to be a minimum. It was a useful feature, not a drawback as modern BioWare seems to see it as.
@@BradTheAmerican well Im not a big fan of Idle or Semi-Idle games, but we have different likes on that matter. I just hope the game is overall decent.

I don't want him killed, but I'm getting tired of Varric being the only one that carries over through the games in a meaningful way. Morrigan is all but forgotten. Her story is so much more interesting.
@@heatherwind Varric was meant to die all the way back in DA2. They are finally going to do it.
@@riches3581 It's definitely looking that way from what I've seen and read so far. But unlike losing Duncan back in DAO we've had more time to get attached to him. And if Solas is the one to actually do it - that just adds insult to injury. :(
Don't worry, they won't. He's the in-game narrator.
A bit odd that there was no new footage.
Damage control. They surely were not prepared for the majorly negative reception.

At the end there she said something I have been worried about, I'm glad to hear that companions can use abilities without player input, I would like to know more about the combat and what is possible.
I always love to tweet the AI in the previous titles to maximise their effectiveness.
Hopefully we can do that in this title too.
I don't want to make hasty assumptions, but it almost teased something like the Origins "Tactics" assignments that you could use to set up automatic actions. Like I used to set up Wynne with "If mage spotted then use Crushing Prison" or "If Alistair under 35% health, then heal". I have those missed that tactics assignment for sure.
This was a setting in Mass Effect so I wonder if they’ll include that to remedy this for people who aren’t seeking full control
heck yes, let's go
Really excited to continue the story, carefully excited to play the game.
Atm I'm not sure what to think about the gameplay. I like complex gameplay and this looks very simple for now. The devs etc. say there is complexity, but I don't really hear examples or see this. They just say it's there. This scares me a little bit because this is something we've heard with other game's over the past few years and they didn't realised it, they didn't live up to the expectations. Don't get me wrong, I want to game to succeed, I want it to live up to the expectations and blow me away.
So I would absolutely love to see more battle gameplay (and less walk/cutscenes) of later in the game, even if it's just to ease the mind a bit.
Sounds like they are actually gonna have more than ONE black hair style 😅 Looking forward to character creator!
The Sims, the Sims guys, that's where Busche is coming from. Bioware couldn't get someone with better expertise??? Holy crap

You don't start your story out at the end. That makes no sense. The whole point of Trespasser's ending was for the Inquisitor to be the one making the choice to save Solas or stop him by any means, and also to find a team of people he wouldn't see coming. Veilguard negates all of that by excluding the Inquisitor and having Varric take over, and also shoving in some new character who was picked up in a bar, whose only real contribution was helping to push down some weak scaffolding. Sounds to me like that doesn't respect previous game choices, or even current game choices, since Rook is often contradicted or overruled by companions.
Next, I didn't see good storytelling through the characters in the gameplay demo. I only saw characters repeating the major plot points in the most blatant way possible through forced exposition. Varric saying Solas will tear down the veil. Harding mentioning that she's a scout when Rook reveals he doesn't know his way around his own city. Neve mentioning she has info on Solas' whereabouts. Varric repeating to her that Solas is an acient elvhen "god". Granted, it's just the demo and the start of the game, but this is the only impression we have so far.
Yeah nuanced villains, not just straight up evil villains. Like what, Coryphus? And what do you call Elgar'nan and Ghillin'nain? They're now the original magisters, and supposedly corrupted with the taint. Are they going to be mindless villains bent on destroying everything?
If we can't save the world without them, then I guess that means they are mandatory companions. We can't reject them or kick them out. So much for player choice. We're allowed to be suspicious of Solas, but not any of these party companions? The elven companions could be working with Solas, or could become controlled by the villains. Davrin is a Grey Warden, for example, and might be susceptible to being controlled similar to how Cory controlled the Wardens around him. Bellara might sell out to the enemy in exchange for the magic and ancient artifacts she covets. Taash is qunari, and could be ben-hassrath for all we know. How can we even trust these characters, realistically speaking from the roleplay perspective? I don't think BioWare thought this through.
Followers and ancillary characters sound good. Anything to give us more companions beyond these seven. Hopefully they can become the third party member at any given time during their quest-line.
Helping factions goes back to Origins. So I'm not sure what Epler is getting at here. This is nothing new, and that's fine. Dragon Age should be more like Origins.
Minrathous looks like a dump. Highlighted by the swarm of rats running through the street. But even the larger buildings are just basic-looking structures. The floating Circle is just a composite of simple geometric shapes that even the PS2 could have displayed. There is nothing complex about these buildings. No intricate carvings, no complex architecture, no awe-inspiring magical constructs. It's just grey/black buildings with orange lights through fog. Nothing impressive about that. Same goes for busted up elvhen ruins with overgrow ivy and weeds.
Ya know what would be consistent with magical lore? A barrier not popping in one poke from a rogue's dagger.
Customizeable backgrounds beyond just factions is a good thing. The protag needs history of what came before joining a certain faction. Otherwise the character would just be generic.
The problem with going on a journey with your companions instead of them going on a journey with you is, they have no reason to see you as the leader. If you're just another tag-along, then why should they listen to anything you say, or do what you want to do? And I think we saw this during the demo. Rook will suggest something and immediately be contradicted or shot down. I don't like that.
Uh no, this has not shown options that give us as much choice as possible. Sometimes Rook speaks for us without any dialogue prompts. Most times Rook is countered by a companion. When Rook does get options, they are topical and have no effect on the way events unfold. Sometimes the options look the same. At worst Rook can only choose to be direct, not mean or confrontational. Like when Neve reveals that she let herself get captured intentionally, Rook has no option to call her out on it. She knew meeting with us so we could track down Solas was top priority, but she let the meeting be delayed for bad reasons. Why can't Rook point this out? Why can't he get mad? Because there is no real choice involved, at least not according to this demo.
I wonder how useful character builds will be when we can't have a third party member or control our party companions. Seems like the combat will be action/melee or ranged button-mashing. I heard there was no tactical view this time either.
Ehh, being inside the world requires us to be able to explore it at a leisurely pace. That isn't possible when you are being forced to run through the streets while the veil tears open and demons swarm you. At what point do we actually get to explore Minrathous, and how large is it?
I don't want my companions to pick their own targets. I want to be able to focus them on the targets I want. That's the point of group combat. You tactically command your companions to focus on specific enemies first and get strats going. You don't just let them do their own thing, because that won't be effective.
Excuse me? You see ALL the things Harding or Bellara are capable of? According to the GUI, we'll only get to see three things at a time. Can we at least swap out weapons and spells/abilities on the fly?
Well see how it is in terms of story and gameplay. So far it looks bad on all counts.
Watching this game, its trailer and gameplay reveal gave me the vibe of Diablo Immortal reveal.
Everyone so hyped, waiting for years for the game, only for the devs to reveal some mobile game garbage and straight up disrespect them with "you guys have no phones???"

Because a lot of those people are fans of the series too and have every right to share their opinions and bring forth their concerns. The game has been rebooted I think a couple of times so people have a right to be skeptical.

Exactly. They refuse to let people enjoy the hype. I’m excited!
Bioware's not the same company, but some people actually liked these series previously and wish they would return to being good. So difficult to understand for some people apparently, instead of just slurping up everything that has a name that is recognized on it.
@@SalShears Who asked for your opinion? I must’ve missed it.
LETSGO VEILGUARD!!!!
Tfw for a moment you were afraid Wes’ tweet meant we’d be getting a video that wasn’t Dragon Age 🤡😂
Bold of them to use a darkspawn as a spokesthing.
I would like to see some advanced combat for each available class. I want to see how different they can be. Does it feel good to play mage in such active combat system?
Well, answer yourself if it will feel good to have just three spell slots as a mage.
@@4RedJohn Logic tells me no, but I would love to be proved wrong.
I'm just dying to discover the CC, and above all else, the ranges of choices we will be able to make from previous games. They talked about a phase in character creation like "Previously in Dragon Age", but I want to know how much choices will count. Because we have now three previous games with a lot of big choices that has to matter. If it's only 4 or 5 choices from Inquisition and that's it, I'm gonna be pissed. I think a lot of choices from previous games should at least be referenced, like in Codexes or banters.
Who is King of Ferelden ? And Orzammar ?
Did the Warden died ?
Does Kieran exist and did he have an Old God soul ?
Who drank from the Well ?
Did Shale survives and goes to Tevinter ?
Who was supported during the Mage-Templar War ?
We need to have a whole bunch of references because otherwise it's like this world building, those previous games, the state of the world we spent three games to build, don"t matters...
@JackdawYT hoping you do a live stream about all these goodies
Please release the Character Creator early and let us our part of the marketing for the game. Look at Dragon's Dohma 2. That move helped the game immensily and the game itself isn't even as good or complex as Dragon Age. You gotta see that this is not a wrong move in any way, it will just drive up interest, hype and sales. So excited to jump back into Dragon Age. Best of luck and may the game be great!
15:35 I agree, please show, dont tell us for 30 minutes how "good" this game is
cannot wait for this game!!!
I'd like a deep dive into the character creator and game play at later stages. I'm starting to get splinters in me arse from the amount of fence sitting I've been doing on this title.
After listening to the back story - it's given me hope with this game. Hope the story will be as good as origins.
Why would you ever hope it would be?
My question is:What if I DON'T like one of the companions? Can I K word them off early? Force them to leave my company? Antagonize them to the point of turning them hostile? Or am I forced to just "love" those characters because all the story is focused on them?
These are some very good questions. The way they described it feels like the companions are the real protagonists and you are their mere companion 🤣
You get a disapproval from Neve if you choose Harding to go with you, so they still have a companion approval system. They also said that there are some story choices that could "break your heart," so it doesn't sound like it's all sunshine and roses.
@@Kleineganz I just hope I actually get to chose which companions I want to be friendly with and whose friendship quest I don't want to do without missing major parts of the main quest. For the approval system to actually mean something and have the consequence of someone leaving or turning hostile based on your decisions. I'm a bit concerned with how much the companions are tied to the main plot, this makes it seem you have to suck up to them constantly to advance in the main quest...
Before I watch - did they reveal anything story wise that hasnt been said already? I got excited and devoured the article when it came out but there were story things I would have preferred to leave unknown. I'd like to go in as blind as possible 😂 I'd appreciate it if someone would let me know 🙏
Only halfway through but nothing major I haven’t read anywhere else 😅
@@RookieTok You're a legend! Thanks ❤️
@@roisinfarrell961 it's all the articles they have written over the past months, but in a youtube video. We learned nothing new, as far as I can tell.
@@reptiliancow Thank you so much I really appreciate it!
"Get back to our roots of character driven storys" Then what the heck has the entirety of the Dragon Age franchise been about? Feels like these clueless new bloods trying to make it "theirs" whilst not respecing while it got big in the first place and basically pissing all over it. Not happy about it.
He said that in reference to their latest game, Anthem, not being 'character driven'. I asked him.
I don't have a problem with the twists and turns of the story, but much more with the gameplay. For a long time, I didn't understand why you couldn't lead the whole team into battle. Because the main character is so tough that he grinds down the entire enemy army with a few companions? I think this is bullshit. We are recruiting them precisely because we need them in the coming battles. In the older parts, it was forgivable that the technology was not there yet. And now what do we get? We can't even take as many companions with us as we used to. I think this is a step backwards and I hope they don't make this mistake in the next part of Mass Effect. After all, even there, it would have been possible to assemble an effective squad from the old companions. There were muscular people on the front line, strong in stealth characters for scouting, snipers for cover, technical geniuses for hacking or repair. I even had a doctor among them in case someone was injured. With a couple of strategic formations, it could be quite a good little game. I really hope that in Mass Effect they will not follow the path of Dragon Age with the gameplay.
Hard to trust bioware nowadays but maybe it’s still worth hoping
Replaying Inquisition right now, and I'm reading all the lore entries, and they all have so much more possibility attached to them now. What is Veilguard going to pick up on and expand? Am I going to see these places?
I know they said I don’t need to complete Inquisition but should I? I don’t want to be lost with the characters
I would definitely recommend playing Inquisition! It's a great game on its own, and the player character of that game will likely play a crucial role in this one. The Trespasser DLC is also the big cliffhanger that leads into 'The Veilguard', a cliffhanger for which we've been awaiting a resolution for nearly 10 years now 😅
Be warned though, it takes anywhere between 30-120 hours to beat, depending on how much of a completionist you are, haha.
You truly don't need anything to start any Dragon Age game, but it would probably help, depends on how much you want to. You could do nothing, play only Inquisition and Trespasser, check also the most recent side content etc... the level really depends on how much you care of getting extra info, they are going to explain all the necessary things and the basics for Veilguard , you can still go back later to add more if you get more curious.
You could watch the romance cutscenes with Solas and then Harding, then watch a summary of the lore behind the game and would understand enough probably.
I really hope this isn’t dragon age/uncharted, I love the dragon age games, even 2, exploration is mentioned - I’m not gonna judge till I see it, but I’m worried - I’m also the older fan and this isn’t aimed at me. But the games we love are the ones we spend time discovering- you simplify that discovery, then it removes the beauty of these games - I’m the weirdo that collects the unique books and reads all the lore. I hope this is still an rpg, and isn’t aiming too hard at the biggest market possible so loses what it is. I love these games, hopefully I love this one, it sounds like a lot of love and effort has been poured into it - I’m maybe to nostalgic for the good old days battling the blight. Good luck, and the old school combat was fun btw 😊
I agree with your sentiments as well, but one thing that is a 100% positive to me is that this game is NOT open world. I am soooo sick of open world bloatfests of nothing. Elden Ring in particular bored me to tears, the open world added nothing to it just padded out the game time.
@@Supadrumma441Yesss thank you! Elden Ring’s open world destroyed that game for me. I hope that isn’t the direction they take for future titles!
@@AngelWings1960 Yep if you spend 1 hour of game time and 45mins of it is riding a horse and 15mins of it is combat, you have failed at game design.
Prepare yourself to bem disspointed then. I already made my peace.
They said there's going to be some exploration and some bigger maps, so it's not going to be always exclusively linear, but the exploration it's going to be more focused and (thankfully) not just there to say "we have big maps" like it happened in Inquisition.
