The rifles used by the Nigerian army are manufactured by DICON - Defense Industries Corporation. They also manufacture RPGs, etc. I agree that more needs to be done and can be done. The issue of steel is important but needs to be thoroughly examined. It only makes sense if it can be produced at a competitive price. Even the U.S. is importing steel despite having a great steel industry. Many local producers are springing up around the country. Perhaps, the private sector can invest in steel. Nigeria's problems are manifold but there are people taking on the challenges. If we can't get it done top-down, perhaps it's time to use a bottom-up approach.

You need more if you want to compete, and you cannot grow without cheap power, open your steel company. China and India is fighting a race in the manufacture sector, where is nigeria in that race? Do they build airplane and heavy equipment in nigeria? Nigerians can do it just like everyone else, the technology is available to everyone. Tarta motors own land rover, your politician will not support your local car company, all major road works are done by arabs ans indians, most of the big money you collect leaves to foreign shores.

Nigeria needs more research to manufacture their own medicines, you need to produce more steel and other finish metals, hospitals equipment, they need to build steel fishing boats and stop cutting trees, you need more nigerians companies to build their own roads, to much imports and not enough finish exports goods, better organized markets and roads without sand on the road

Everything you mentioned has been ongoing for years. The biggest manufacturer of pharmaceuticals in Nigeria is Emzor. The owner is from Nnewi, although her plants are in Lagos and Shagamu. They manufacture in excess of 1000 products that include HIV drugs, antibiotics, vitamins, etc. Their newest plant cost up to 80 million dollars.
All kinds of steel boats and ships are produced in Nigeria both by private and government / military. Most of the naval patrol boats used by our navy are built in Nigeria. Tugboats, search and rescue boats, and even fast attack ships are built in Nigeria. Nigeria is one of the strongest research countries, but there is insufficient funding for production. Our politicians and leaders are more interested in enriching themselves. Nigerian military have developed world-class mine-resistant vehicles or MRAPS. They have been deployed successfully in the northeastern fight against insurgency. There is also a Nigerian company called Proforce that manufactures an assortment of military fighting vehicles. They also manufacture drones. Innoson also manufactures personnel carriers for the Nigerian army. Both Innoson and Proforce manufacture bullet-proof vehicles for commercial purposes. Innoson recently supplied the central bank with bullion vans. Proforce is even exporting MRAPS to Europe.

For the population of nigeria no one manufacture guns and bullets, no chip companies, your foreign exchange is bad, for 200 million people your imput is 95 percent, your output is 5 percent, you will never compete without steel and power, companies are leaving nigeria, its good if nigerians themselves can take up the slack. South Korea with 60 million people GDP IS 50 times higher than nigeria , nigeria is last in everything. Nigeria have the brains that can make nigeria great, so why is nigeria behind everyone?

What you fail to understand, is that I am on your side, I dont understand what you mean by insults, nigeria have some of the smartest people on the planet, most of them are outside nigeria. You must first have an open mind if you want to solve the problems of the giant of africa, the rest of the black world is waiting for you, it does not matter where I am from I am an african first. Why are so many big companies leaving nigeria? Nigeria have the brains and resources to be number one, take a good look at your export and import, manufacturing, power. All you have to do is take a look at some island small nations with very little natural resources, and why are they selling goods to Nigeria and not Nigeria selling to them. I like all what Peter obi was saying, Egypt 60 million people, 60 mega watts of power, nigerian engineeres can build every road in nigeria and keep the money home, to much money is leaving to foreign shores, nigerians can do more if they put what ever system they need in place, the british left the same system in India, all they did is make it better. If you study bechtel corporation, they can build any project on planet earth, all they do is hire good teams of people to get the job done. Nigerians are smart enough to be number one, now its your time, get the job done, make the black race proud. The education of the rule of law must be taught at every level, job creation by the nigerians themselves, making their own drugs, heavy research at universities, support your own , like inoson, and other companies, agriculture at a massive scale, feed africa with finished product. I don't like talking happy talk, if I insulted you, I apologize and very sorry to talk in that manner about your country, I cannot hate anything nigerian, my ancestors came from nigeria.

It is individuals like Innoson that will lead to the transformation of our economy. He has both vision and determination. His new site in Nnewi is far bigger than the current one. He is about to commission a new massive plant in Naze Owerri. How he manages to pull off his operations in the horrible business environment in our country is noteworthy. Innoson has three plants in Enugu. His plastic plant is far bigger than his auto plant. He is still among the biggest manufacturer and distributor of motorcycles in Nigeria. New auto players are emerging in Anambra state and I believe they are being inspired by IVM.
