- My ultimate survival guide to Interrail 2018! I went Interrailing around Europe last summer (vlogs linked below) and had the most incredible time EVER, so wanted to share my top tips, money saving hacks, best routes, and general tricks that I picked up en route. We travelled from Paris, to Munich, Ljubljana, Lake Bled, Budapest, Vienna, Cesky Krumlov, Prague, Berlin, and Amsterdam. Let's make your trip more Interrail than InterFAIL.

Corona really be destroying my hopes of travelling
I am going next Monday! Just following all travel advice and avoid busy places :)
@@1270lyn sadly that's quite difficult if you want to travel by train
@@lucam9806 yeah, now it is... but when I went back in September it was still kind of possible. Lots of coutries were code orange, but still some yellows, so that is where we went. I had an awesome month, despite Corona :)
@@1270lyn Sounds great! I'm waiting for all this covid stuff to end so I can finally go on an interrail trip. Until then, planning where I want to go and watching CZcams videos is all I can do :)
@@lucam9806 believe me, its worth the wait. Plus planning is like half the fun ;) lets just hope it all ends soon so we can discover new places again :)
I went interrailing back in 1983, and I agree with so much of what you said. The best thing to do is manage with as small a rucksack as you can possibly get away with. If you can jog with it on your back then you're well ahead.
Lay out everything that you need on a bed, and then throw half of it away. I managed with little more than just 3 T-shirts, jeans, a sweat-shirt, swim trunks, and probably no more than 3 pairs of underpants and socks (it's a long time ago, I forget, but somebody on the trip once advised that you can get away by turning them back to front, and inside out, and then you get 4 days out of them - I didn't try this!). The rest of it was a cotton sleeping-bag liner, water purification tablets (for Morocco - water wasn't safe then in North Africa, and even in Seville in 1983 the water was cut off for half of the day for some reason), an empty water bottle, a book, a phrase-book/language dictionary or two, and little more (when you've read the book, you swapped it with another interrailer). If you can get your bag to under 10Kg, you're onto a winner.
Like you, I learned so much about myself, and life, in little more than a month, and picked up communication skills in Spanish and Portuguese that I can still remember to this day. I could still get by in both countries for years afterwards and later decided to learn both languages a bit more thoroughly in my 40s.
I love the fact that you can now have an online planner. Yes, back in my day, you took a folding map which gave you some idea of the layout of the lines in Europe and just relied on the fact that stations would have timetables and that you would meet somebody who had come from the other direction who could give advice - we just hoped for the best and it usually worked out.
The unique thing one has at the age of 17 to 25 is TIME - you will never have as much free time as you do at that age. Just make the most of it before careers take over.
It's interesting that you managed with £1000. Back in 1983, the cost of the interrail card was £115 (yes, I know!), and I managed to spend a month travelling on little more than £200 which kinda equates to £1000 today.
I wish any young people luck with interrailing and I despise the older people of my generation who voted for Brexit that will reduce your chances to travel
Love
Brexit has Zero effect on Inter rail !! Also , budget airlines are selling
record number of flights at moment. Incessant Remainer whining is one of best reasons to
get away from.Britain !
i’m trying to think of train puns but i just keep getting side tracked...
i wish i could go back in time and put this comment on the screen for the entire video
that was punny mate, i also enjoy making shit jokes.
That was a RAILy good pun
Yiv hit the buffers eh
Oooohhhhhh mannnnnnnn
THIS WAS SO USEFUL! 🙌
gotta get those gap yah plans 💪🏼

i guess I'm quite randomly asking but does anyone know a good place to watch new tv shows online ?
@Dax Omari i use Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Braylen Wyatt Definitely, been watching on FlixZone for since april myself :)
I went interrailing last summer at the end of my A levels too! i went to paris, marseille, florence, rome, venice, budapest and vienna! if i had gone for longer or if i were to do it again i would love to go to amsterdam, berlin, munich etc... i loved interrailing so much, I'm a very anxious person but doing this really helped me chill out. Even though we hit a few walls we always made it in the end!!! i only went with one person and next time i will definitely go with a group but it's such a great way to travel and see some amazing places :) loved hostels, the sights, the food, the trains. all of it was amazing and looking back i will remember it forever!! also wish i had this video before i went its soooo helpful!!! xx
Hey, I'm thinking of interrailing and the end of year 13 and have some questions! How did you find travelling as a woman - did you feel safe in hostels? And how did make money to go interrailing?
hey girl, what type of interrail pass did you get? Xx
Do you have any tips for inter railing whilst being an anxious person? 😊
Hi emily, did you stop and spent few days in any of the countries you visited? Just curious cos i dont know how interrail works..or did you just spend the whole journey riding the train non-stop!!! I prefer spending at least 2 days in each country before jumping on another train to another destination!!!
I've interrailed 8 times now. I'm a very anxious person too and I do find it stressful at times because as you say you inevitably hit a few walls but in the end it makes you more confident, more organised, more broad minded etc
Overnight trains also cut the cost of hostels for the night ;)
But where do you shower? Or put your bags when exploring?
In the lockers
@@hoyeshibg1370 u don't lol
Hoyeshi BG baby wipes. Any beach showers / public showers after maybe in a hotel / hostel.
If I can make a suggestion based on my personal experiences of traveling in Europe, don’t eat or shop around the touristy areas. Those are usually higher in price and are less authentic. When I was in Italy, I went down so many side streets in Bologna, Rome, and Florence and paid significantly cheaper for food and the food was much more authentic. Plus the small bars found down side streets are sometimes much more fun. I went to one in Rome (reply to this comment if you want to know which one) in Trieste and it was such an amazing experience. It was incredibly cheap. The drinks were amazing. The bartender was friendly. The patrons were accepting and just chill. I went there twice in 1 night. 1 time before a group dinner (I was on a week long study abroad trip with my history department) and me and like 4 other students went back for round 2 later that evening before hitting the clubs.
Also, check where the taxi drivers eat at. That is always the best value.
Thanks for recommending Interrail Planner, Jack!
My pleasure!!! You were SUCH a life saver when planning my trip - thank you so much!

This is sooo helpful! I’m gonna do interrail with my friends at the end of year 12 instead of going to Punta Umbria (Spain) with school, like everyone does, and I just can wait!
Everyone goes to Punta Umbria 😂 in my school is the same!

this is SUCH a good idea for summer holidays because it's a month-long trip so doesn't take up too much time, but you get to see so many incredible places all in one go!
Thank you for this video, it’s pure gold 🙌🏼

Very very helpful, gave me more ideas and ways to make things easier planning my trip. Thank you!
Best video ever honestly so helpful I know I’m late haha but thanks!! Interrailing sounds beyond exciting
Yas immediately clicked as this was what I needed right now :)
been waiting for this video for so long! loved your series so much, this was a great add on. are you going again? hope durham is treating you well!
Dangerously close to 30k subscribers you say? Haha!! 971k and going strong! Congrats and well deserved. Such a good informative video this!!
I thought it was so kind of you to laminate copies for your friends and parents, I’m sure they really appreciated that!! Also, in this video you celebrated almost 30k followers and now you’re at 1.3 million!! CONGRATS!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Fabulous video Jack. Thank you ! Loved it. Great tips. :)
this was really useful! What struck me though is that you went to Cesky Krumlov... it is a two hour drive away from my home in Austria and I have visited it a few months ago as a school trip. We did not know anything about the town prior to the arrival and were pretty let down... it is pretty but it is so fake and there were only tourists from Asia. I find it really interesting that this town was on your route through Europe since I would've never visited it on my own even though it is not that far away
Great video Jack!!! 🤩
30K!!! Congratulations!
Thank you that was really helpful. Ill do it next year and im soooooo damn excited 😍
Nice to hear that you have visited Slovenia! It's such a beautiful country, but at the same time not so full of tourists like Paris or London. Also thanks for the video :)
So cool!!! Would love to go interrailing next year
This was so informative, Thank you !
Such a good video, Jack!
I just have one question - did you have to pay some extra money on those sleeping trains - for the bed or reservation or something like that?
Also congrats to 30,000, keep that great work,I like your videos!
such a useful and detailed video thank you!
Thanks for sharing with us your experience and tips . Glad you enjoyed and learned 😊. FOOD ❤😍. Wow it was cheap and a wonderful expirence ... i can tell. You are an organize person, keeping tracking
This was so helpful! thank you!
Super helpful, thanks!
I literally filmed a vid on how to plan a gap year that's being uploaded right now! 😂 I really, really want to go Interrailing - maybe this winter ;)
ooooohhhhhh i'm excited to watch! definitely do it!!!
This was so helpful, like beyond helpful 😂
I found this so helpful, especially the Loot card thing because every country we're going to uses a different currency.... We're going Berlin-Prague-Krakow-Budapest-Maribor-Zadar-Split!
Really good video, great advice
This was so helpful!!
soo useful!! I'm also going to Ljubljana, Budapest, Prague and Berlin this July and can't wait. Did you have to book all of your trains in advance as well as having your interrail pass? Currently trying to decide if it's worth getting the pass or if i should book the individual tickets
I'm planning a trip for june '22 en this was super helpful. Especially the spreadsheet tip :D
This was so useful! I'm a bit put off by all the planning though, I prefer to be adaptive and go with the flow! To do an interrail trip would it be possible to have a rough idea of countries you want to go to and maybe how long for but change as you go? Basically do you need to plan it or can you just go for it and see where you end up lol
0:44 I’m crying rn at your eye roll
HAHAHAHAHAHA OMG
honestly take a shot every time i roll my eyes in this video
Jack, this video is so perfect and helpful. YESSSS!!!
AYYYY thank you so much! I'm glad 😊
Also quick question... how far in advance did you book and plan :)
This is so useful thank you!
Great video!
So helpful! Can't wait for some covid free traveling...hopefully soon🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Can’t wait to do this one day
Great video and lots of information
Another masterpiece 😃
you're the best!!!
Ahh thanks mate
That spreadsheet 😍😍😍😍
One annoying thing about the InterRail rules is that there's no allowance for day trains arriving after midnight. There is the 19:00 rule for overnight trains, but nothing for day trains. This is different from national tickets which often are valid into the small hours (e.g. UK ones, including national/regional rovers and rangers, are valid until 04:29).
So so helpful!! thank you very much. starting to plan now... finding it hard to understand which trains are valid with the interrail pass and how you know what company it is on rail planner?? x
really helpful. Thanks 🙏🏻
Thx for this very usefull video, congats mate
Amazing video💗
Thank you!! 💙
