    ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
    It's very important to understand that if your dog won't eat kibble anymore, it's a dog's way of saying it does not like the way it feels when it eats what it is given and that its system is tilting out of balance. The best and only option is to turn to a natural diet that will help the dog get back to its natural processes as quickly as possible. This, or face thousands in vet bills down the road.
    So How to Get a Picky Dog to Eat Quickly?
    First it's important to understand that dogs can eat many types of human food and in fact, given your dog refuses to eat dog food, it's an essential and healthy way to get them back eating again. I'll share more on how to get your dog eating kibble again later.
    So in an emergency situation where your dog or puppy has not eaten for days or very little in weeks, use the following recipe:
    I'll use a 25lb dog as illustration, simply adjust portion sizes for your dogs weight.
    Ingredients:
    1 can of sardines (packed in water)
    1 cooked egg (de-shelled)
    1 Tablespoon of plain yoghurt
    2 Tablespoons of cooked brown rice
    Directions:
    Open the can of sardines, drain off the water and add to the dogs food bowl. Hard boil one whole egg, remove the shell, cut into pieces and add to the food bowl. Add one tablespoon of plain yoghurt. Add 2 tablespoons of cooked brown rice to the bowl and mix everything up before serving to your dog.
    By adding some natural foods to the equation and a dog not eating because of discontent will not be an issue. Dogs will instinctively recognize their food source as appropriate and owners will be able to see a dog in the miraculous process of getting well. Within a short period of time, there will be shinier eyes, hair and whitened teeth.
    Bad breath will disappear as will malodorous gas and bouts with irritable bowel problems. Any recurrent infections will clear up quickly and you'll notice a restoration of energy and alertness you have never before seen in your own dog.
    Dog Won't Eat Kibble Anymore - How to Feed a Picky Dog?
    Let's move on to how to get you dog eating kibble again but making it more healthy for them so they want to eat it?
    Let me share with you a diet choice that will get your dog eating again. Ending your dogs self imposed starvation and starting or reclaiming proper health relies on a diet that provides enough of the right combination of proteins and enzymes.
    Introducing the Healthier Kibble Diet: If your dog is not eating their food, this diet gives your dog back not only something they want to eat but will also give them far greater long term health and happiness.
    I created the Healthier Kibble Diet to help kibble feeding dog owners reclaim their dogs health from those day to day health issues that plague so many dogs, including when your dog refuses to eat.
    Dog health issues that include the following:
    Dog not eating food, Allergies, blocked anal glands, diarrhea, yeast infections, ear infections, skin and coat problems, hot spots, arthritis and poor digestion or sensitive tummies.

    My 10 month old Golden Retriever stopped eating her kibble. Only way she'll eat is if topped with chicken broth or a raw egg. I believe I created a picky eater by giving her duck necks with some kibble for lunch. Now she understands that the duck necks are much tastier as is the chicken broth than her boring ol kibble.

      @@DanScott1 absolutely but initially I was seasoning the food. I realize now that dogs don’t need the salt and they eat it better if I don’t put any in… oh, because I do also supplement with some kibble until I get the hang of it😊. I was making cat food for the stray kittens I found (with turkey, rice, carrots) and they wouldn’t eat it. Can you believe it? So, I had to give them kibble and wet food; but I thought maybe it’s because I put salt and pepper in it? So I’m working on cooking for the dogs. Plus I have the eight cats/kittens still (three live out in my shed and refuse to come inside)I know it’s ridiculous but I just can’t bear to give them away. Maybe they’ll find a good home eventually but they’re all so happy here. but yes, I’m just trying to get the swing of cooking fresh for all of them. I just haven’t managed it well yet. The shed is actually a chicken coop because I have five chickens coming inside into my back porch at night because of raccoons.😄 but the cats and chickens get along swimmingly lol I finally got the stray momma spayed so we r on the right track. Anyway, just love your show. I was watching some of your other episodes yesterday as well❤️🌹 and yes, I absolutely detest many of the harsh medications, so yeah I’m always looking for natural remedies. It will work, but you may then find he likes fresh food better, so be ready to feed more fresh food in the diet. So in a normal sized kibble meal, reduce the kibble by 30% and replace with eggs, canned sardines (in water) and part cooked and blended veg. plus a little meat or some of that freeze dried raw food as a topper: Steve's Real Food Freeze-Dried Raw Food Diet for Dogs and Cats, 2-Pack, Turducken Recipe (Turkey & Duck), 1.25 lbs - amzn.to/3CIje5c

    we've just adopted (10 days ago) a 13+ year old dog that has been rejected from his owner and was hit by a train (as he is fully deaf) and survived. He's adjusting emotionally pretty well and wants to always be near us. He was prescribed Royal Canin Gasto, but he refuses to eat it. We've tested him for many parasites incl guardia and coccidia and is clear. His ALAT and ASAT liver enzymes are high but not awful. I've just tried him on your sardine/brown rice/egg/yogurt recipe, he ate half of it somewhat willingly and then walked away. I've just started him today on milk thistle per your suggestions in other videos in addition to a multivitamin, probiotics and enzymes. The shelter says he's just being "difficult" and we should wait until he gives into just kibble, but he's been so sweet with us in every other way, my gut says if I could just figure out what food he wants to eat, I could help him. Is it possible that he would respond better to another protein like mod-fat beef or pork or chicken? I once gave him steamed turkey and white rice with mediocre reviews from both ends if you know what I mean :) I know the sardines are meant also for omega content, but perhaps he's just not "into" fish. Please help!

      Thank you for good detail. Stay away from that gastro option, not the first time this week I've said this.
      If he ate half, that's a great sign and means you gave him twice what he wanted. Look at the nutrition he ate in that half... amazing!
      Milk thistle.. great. (Soothing the digestive system).
      Probiotics and enzymes.. great too.
      Multivitamin..?
      He's too old for kibble, feed the goof stuff - fresh food.
      This will restore his health, wellbeing, vigor and peace of mind to bring confidence. He's a feeling animal and good food brings good feelings. Keep drugs to a minimum to zero level - including vaccines, zero is best.
      Yes, try the pork, chicken with cooked and well mashed/blended veg and the others you know, sardines, eggs etc. The sardines are for oils but you can always add some flax or hemp seed oils.
      Try some raw green tripe, great all in one dog food.
      Keep carbs low, protein high and fat moderate.

She will not eat her moist kibbles out of her bowl. Her prior owner use to add a little bit of water to her kibbles but when I try that her kibbles seems to pack togeather. I have tried other canned food with no real sucess. Her whole environment has changed and is now getting skinny and frail looking. What is your recommendation?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Před 2 lety +1

      The dog is feeling her age and internal deterioation and knows she needs food that makes her feel better than plain ol kibble. Hence loving the cooked chicken and ham.
      If you can, I'd mix raw eggs, canned sardines, cooked and well mashed veg and some raw meats in with the kibble. She'll love that and it will make her stronger and put on some weight. It means more of a food budget from you though.
      If you have a local butcher, they'll save you all the free scraps and meaty bones.
      Also get some probiotics: amzn.to/3xqa2i0
      They help a lot with digestion, smoothing things out. Add to every meal and start at half dose and work up over serveral days.

    So happy to have found you! Thanks for all the valuable info. I want to get your guide, but do your recipes cater to dogs that "might" have kidney disease. I say might because the vet says some of his numbers are "high" but he doesn't show any symptoms of KD. Got his blood work done again and his SDMA went down a lot but the vet insists that I keep him on a Renal Royal Canin diet. My dog hates it. And for me it doesn't feel right.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Před rokem +1

      That renal diet wont work.. at all! Tha dog knows it, you know it and I know it, so we all agree.
      Here's what to do next for a better diet if you want to stay with kibble: (better kibble option below).
      If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (best) soft boiled (ok) and preferably organic, canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better.
      If not liking to prepare vegetables then these freeze dried greens are antioxidant packed to help protect cells from free radical damage, cellular repair, support immunity, joints, skin issues, heart and eye health: Core Immune CARE Greens: shrsl.com/3uv18
      Now your dogs getting live enzymes, probiotics, Omega 3 oils, the highest quality proteins and nutritional assimilation from eggs (100%), and antioxidants, minerals and vitamins from vegetables.
      Always add a quality probiotic to improve digestion and gut health: (skin issues/yeast/itchy dogs) use this one: amzn.to/3yoURqU and for all other dogs use this one: shrsl.com/3uv7l
      If you want an excellent, VERY low carbohydrate kibble at just 5%, (high carbohydrates cause chronic inflammation, with itchy skin, yeast, poor gut health, ear infection, UTI's and hot spots, and nearly all kibbles are 40+% carbs!).
      Ketona has high protein at 47% (dogs thrive on proteins), correct fats at 15% and natural additives, so have a look at Ketona Kibble: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaKibble. I recommend still adding the fresh foods even with the best kibble.
      By introducing fresh foods, really lowering carbs use, introducing greens, omega 3's, proteins and a better more suitable kibble, your dog will respond with healing and improved health over the next 12 weeks.
      Some must do's:
      Zero vaxx once adult (auto immune disease issues)
      Very low carbs in diet (cause of inflammation and later, cancer)
      No vet drugs, there's effective natural alternatives.
      Feed a healthier diet with at least 50% fresh food in it.
      NO white foods ie rice, potato, pasta..

      @@DanScott1 I want to thank you so much for all your incredibly valuable information, and I haven’t stopped watching your videos because you are so aligned with some thing I have always felt, but never trusted because the vets always discourage you from changing the nutrition of the dog. I did switch to some homemade recipes that I got from the website just food for dogs so I’ve decided to only cook for my 14 pound Pomeranian mix Picasso. And I’m going to also include some of your diet suggestions as I bought your e-book and I realize how much more valuable information I can get from your videos. I am a little nervous though, because my dog is having extreme diarrhea or very very loose stools and is this something I should expect over the transition from kibble? He has never liked any of the kibble I have bought him and I’m worried that if I buy that special kibble you mentioned I would be spending $66 on something that he just won’t eat. He definitely loves the fresh fruit aspect and I love feeding him what I know to be in the meal. But is there anything I can do to help him hard and his stools I did order some of the slippery elm, but it won’t be here until Friday from Amazon. I was going to order some of the other things that you suggested in your response as well like the sardines, but they seem to be out of stock. If you could just let me know if there’s anything I can do for him for the diarrhea and extremely slimy loose stool it would be so helpful. Just really worried since I still have that vet mentality where he was slightly diagnosed with the potential kidney disease. Thank you so much for your time. Is this recipe okay for a 3 month old puppy? Can I substitute the sardines with other meat? My puppy would eat home cooked meals but just not kibble. I asked around and they told me not to give him homemade meals because he’s too young and his diet is hard to balance. Am I making him pickier by giving him home cooked meals? After him not eating his kibble for a meal or two, I start to worry that he might starve and make him something he likes. Am I spoiling him? Also, is it okay to wait 1-2 days and see if he’ll eat any? I’ve never waited that long. Any tips on what I should do?

      @DanScott1  Před 2 lety

      Yes it's great for a 3 month pup. Yes you can substitute other mewats for the sardines or add them extra.
      I recommend not asking around, you'll get uninformed answers. He's not too young and it's easy to balance the food.
      Kibble alone is not the best choice, it needs FRESH food adding to it to make it better nutrition, so making your dogs meals at home is healtheir long term.
      Dogs mostly understand fresh food so after eating it, many prefer it to kibble which is understandable.
      Dogs can go hungry for days and weeks, they are built to be hardy animals.
      Tips: Feed a home cooked food diet, it's easy with this ebook: healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/

      Your boyfriends bulldog is sensitive, but I can see you have love for them both to take such a dog in. Use the above information to give the dog more of what he really needs and that's fresh foods.. and he'll eat them too!

    Hello! Hope you could give me advice. Today I received the most beautiful gift. A puppy, a shitzu puppy. I was really happy and was told that the puppy eats 3 times a day. I received the puppy at 10 in the morning so I thought of giving him food for lunch. I gave him dog food (nutri chunks for puppy) and he ate aLl of it. When dinner came my parents bought roasted chicken and fed a little bit to the puppy. I tried to make him eat dog food but he won't eat it. So I decided to mix a bit of chicken with his dog food. He ate only the chicken and refused to eat the dog food. How can I make him like dog food again?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Před rokem

      Kinda too late, now he knows the good stuff! Now you'll want to make home made food for the pup which is much better than pet food anyway and he'll be healthier long term.
      I've had this a lot from pet parents and once the dog knows real food, it does not like kibble anymore, and lets face it, I'd be the same.
      So you can lern the basics of canine nutrition which is easy and feed your new charge appropriately. Shitzu's are small so it's not a lot of fuss. You can even buy pre-made ready meals the dog will like or make your own. I have a diet book with 3 main diets you can work with: healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/
      Or just get some Steves real food or Primal ready meals and the dog will love them.. and much healthier then just plain kibble.

      Hi Celine, straight away clean up the diet and give some home remedies/supplements.
      It's a lot to go into here but start with my diet eBook as it's diet that is most likely the underlying cause agravated by too many drugs from the vet trying to make up for poor diet... what's poor diet: kibbles.
      In the book is the Healthier Kibble Diet, start with that diet. There's also the home cooked food diet and the raw food diet... it's a great book from 15 years of research and practice... and more importantly, what your dog now needs. healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/
      The supplements are in the book that go with the diets... it's ALL in there for you to follow.
      Your dog will start eating the food too because it's MUCH healthier with the additions to the diet.
      Also add in some (to meals) Milk Thistle to begin cleansing the liver (Important). amzn.to/2LdsWpY

      Just serve by weight. ie 150lb person takes 56 drops, so 75lb dog is 28 drops daily fort 4 months.

      If you get sardines packed in fresh water only, that solves the sodium issue.

      I can't see my previous replies here on YT. I don't know your pups size but 300mg is the weight of a small feather. Give at least half a canned fish per meal per day. The pup should be kept slim but not skinny so feed enough to keep the pup this way.

      Indeed, fresh food is best. But most people wont make the jump so I introduced a third option, the healthier kibble diet which at least means less kibble and more fresh food in the meal and the option to go full home cooked or better still full raw diet is there too.
      Most people need educating slowly one step at a time.
      Pet parents like you get it after life experience and research. Thank you for your message, appreciated.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Před 3 lety +1

      Ah.. but that's the point Matilda! For folks that won't won't change their dogs kibble diet... what then? Ignore it? Sad indeed.
      Or.. inspire them to do something small, something better, something that their dog can benefit from. It's about adding something 'actual' to the equation and opening the door to more.
      I tried telling people 12 years ago about 'real food', some embraced it, many did not. Now I seek to infiltrate slowly, one step at a time on the path to millions.
      One example: my book helps pet parents to add 'actual food' to their dogs kibble meals. This improves things, people and dogs feel better, there is positive change. Then.. in the book.. there is the home cooked and raw food diet, waiting to be peaked at, entertained, incorporated.. maybe, just maybe.
      This is the slow game of teasing but dogs are ever present and eternally happy.. and if it happens that their human parent see's the light, I am honored to serve all.
