- Among the many great things happening in this chapter of my life, I have been fortunate to have a dramatic influx of new patients that are babies, children, and youth. This is something I have been intentionally cultivating, as I have skills that can be of great help to their growth and development and I particularly enjoy working with them.
I am particularly grateful to the pediatricians who have been making these referrals and to a mom who blogged about her child’s experience with me when I treated his Plagiocephaly. Since many parents and doctors are not familiar with Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine or Osteopathy in the Cranial Field, they have many questions about what I do and what visits with me will be like for their children. I asked my Media specialist who runs my website and has a bachelors degree in Film to make the following video that addresses many of the frequently asked questions parents ask when they call to schedule appointments for their children.
Thanks to Kelsey Grimshaw, who filmed and edited this video, and to the children and their parents who gave permission for me to use footage obtained during regular appointments this month. Both of the children shown have seen me a number of times now and are nearing completion of their course of treatment.

This video is wonderful. I am a first time mama. My almost 10 month old was diagnosed by cranial technologies with torticollis, moderate severe plagiocephaly and brachycephaly with facial asymmetry. He is very advanced for his age also having a full head of hair. But during bath time the flatness stuck out to us MOST. His pediatrician constantly refused to give us a referral to them stating it isn't necessary, his facial features aren't being affected and showed me photos of babies in the most severe cases which he is almost at..and I just found out a week ago. I noticed these issues at about 2/3 months and she told me it'll all get better (the flatness) when he became mobile and that happened at 3/4 months. It is STILL the same. I was told by the specialist that helmet treatment is a MUST and there is nothing that could fix this and it definitely won't happen on it's own. He also needs physical therapy for the tightened neck muscles on one side reason for him hold his head on one direction causing this issue. Is this considered medical malpractice on the pediatricians part? Delayed or wrongful diagnosis? Dad and I have been super sad since we have found out. I am ashamed to have put my trust in her over my own intuition. I'm happy these babies in this video are getting the help they need it makes my heart happy.

Am realising now that this is a problem ...my daughter's head is bigger on one side than the other...her back head is flat too....one ear pinae is smaller the other is normal....the neck is not yet stable...she is a year now....

My baby has the same head shape as the baby in red in this video and I am researching more about osteopathy in treating plagiocephaly, My question is: how many sessions did someone with the head shape like the baby in red need? I am comparing prices and length of treatment with the helmet.
Mar Sol, it can really depend on the severity of the plagiocephaly, and how well the baby responds to treatment. The baby in red had 6-7 treatments, but there are many factors that determine how quickly changes come about, so this shouldn't be used as a barometer of how many treatments your child would need. We have seen babies for as little as 2 treatments, or as many as 8-9 treatments. Hope this helps!

Yes it does help, but not as fast as a helmet would. And with plagiocelphaly time is limited as the skull heals at around one. Don't listen to doctors who try to tell you not to helmet and that it will fix itself It's outdated advice.
Hello! My baby is 11 month old now and can not sit yet and he is diagnosed low mussels tone. He use his left hand always and he is mostly left prone. He can not hold any toys more than 30sec and can not hold bottle yet. His head is not so much flat but slightly. In all this situations what should I do now?

Cece Ruben hi ! Thank you for your reply.My son is 12 month now. He is taking PT and occupation therapy by the doctor referral. And he is right now in between 6 to 8 month milestone achieved. Doctor clearly not saying anything about but developmental delay. He is doing commando crawling right now which is kind of relief me. But still he can not holding his bottle until I help to hold him. And his weight is 22 lb 11oz and height is 29’ . Just trying to give my best to having a normal life for my baby.

hi dr..have u ever treated plagiocephaly on kids more than 2.5 years old...many osteopath or NCR pretend that they could help but so slow
Its to late you should have done something before 2 years old the sutures are closed amd the deformity is permanent. Also osteopaths only try to mold babys heads but it doesnt do jackshit for cranial base asymmetry wich is the main problem
You can still try helmet but the result won't be fast or complete...If his case isn't severe then it will completely disapear with time.

Cover up they actually dont know anything about the condition its hilarious. I study this shit like hardcore its not a nota benign condition at all its actually a top 5 deformity mimicking a lot of other deformitys at once

No only helmet therapy works pushing a skull wont fix cranial deviation and posterior and anterior fossa at all. Never listen to a osteopath or peditrician about such stuff its a deformity way above there paygrade.

Helmet therapy is the best option and the only one imo. Im a adult with deformational plagiocephaly who also studying this type of deformitys. Positional plagiocephaly is a really complex matter and osteopaths cant really fix cranial base deviation wich is what causes the face deformity and twist. Only if your child has torticollis i would recommend a osteopath but a helmet is really necessary. Your lucky because your child is 6 months old after 2 years its permanent causing severe deformity
