    Making garments for the first time and was afraid of doing a button hole. This was so straightforward and easy to follow. May even add a bowling shirt for my son to my list of makes. Thank you soo much.

    Thank you so much. I didn't realise about the fitting you have to pull down to for measuring the size of the button. It worked fantastic! Thank you again.

    Thanks. You showed me exactly what I need to learn. In my Owner's Manual, the process for using the 'buttonhole lever' is documented poorly.

    Thanks for this. It took me two minutes to figure out button holes after this video. After an hour of fiddling around with my machine without success, I was ready to give up. Est voila....two beautiful button holes!

    • @mypoppetblogs

      You will need to read your manual. Some machines have a 4 step button hole where you manually need to change the settings for every step.

    I have the same foot and an elna 3210. I do everything the same but when I start sewing it goes forwards and not backwards and then just keeps going forward without stopping until I stop sewing. I don't know what is wrong and how to remedy this. Please help.

    I have followed all of the instructions on the video but still my needle gets stuck and will not feed the material through so I just end up with a huge bunch of "birds nest" thread - what am I doing wrong?

    • @mypoppetblogs
      @mypoppetblogs  Před 5 lety

      You may need to check your tension or threading. Does your stitching work fine with a regular foot on straight and zig zag stitch? It's hard to diagnose without a photo of what's happening.

    How do you take off the buttonhole foot once you're done?

    • @mypoppetblogs
      @mypoppetblogs  Před 4 lety

      There should be a little button on the base/back of the shank that releases the foot. The feet are interchangeable.

    I see it has a place to put a cord to sew under the buttonhole edges to give the stitch support. What kind of thread it that ?

    • @mypoppetblogs
      @mypoppetblogs  Před 5 lety

      There is a small gap but not for cord. It's to allow extra room for the sewn stitches to slide under the foot without snagging.

    Please Help... I have an older Elna (funstyler ) I've lost my manual and I'm having trouble making buttonholes for a man's shirt. It will do one hole very nice and then the next one it just makes a ball of thread and the dogfoot does not move. How can I fix this?

    • @mypoppetblogs
      @mypoppetblogs  Před 8 lety

      +Cindy Strickland sounds like a problem with your bobbin tension maybe? (just guessing) Do you have someone that can give it a service.

    • @cindystrickland6347
      @cindystrickland6347 Před 8 lety +1

      +mypoppetblogs Thank you, I just found the answer by searching through similar Elna machine manuals online. I wasn't turning the stitch knob.
      To
      To sew another buttonhole, turn the stitch selection knob
      in either direction to an adjacent stitch and then re-set it
      to the buttonhole.

    Thanks for the tutorial .Question? When I cut open my button hole the buttonhole threads become loose and fray . Is it that I have the wrong settings on my machine or what?

    • @mypoppetblogs
      @mypoppetblogs  Před 9 lety +1

      Depending on your fabric there may be loose threads, you can just trim to neaten. Sometimes adding interfacing to the back of the button hole can prevent this. But try not to cut through the actual stitching that your machine has just created or you will unravel your button hole. there should be a gap between the 2 rows of stitching where you can cut cleanly.

      Sure just use a normal foot and with your hand tap the lever when you want to change direction.

    _how do you make the button hole atleast 7cm?_

    • @mypoppetblogs
      @mypoppetblogs  Před 8 lety

      +Kæla Hi sorry about the late reply on this. You can trigger the button hole function to go into reverse by manually tripping the little pull down device at whatever length of button hole you need. The foot triggers it with the size of the button, but if you need a bigger one you can use a regular (wide hole zig zag) foot and use your hand to trigger the reverse function at 7cm. Does that make sense?
