  • Bridges, at one time they were basic marvels of engineering that could help us span gaps we could not cross easily. But now, bridges are a vital part of the world's infrastructure as they do more than just span gaps. They help connect cities, countries, make our roads more viable, and are able to lord over things like rivers and oceans so that we can reach truly anywhere if we build the right kind of bridge. But even though that's true, some bridges aren't made as "well" as others, and some are just plain freaky. So allow us to show you the 20 Scariest Bridges In The World!

I've been on the Royal Gorge bridge and the fault bridge in Alaska. The Royal Gorge bridge was the scariest ...that bridge moves in the wind and the river below looks like a very small stream!

I've been across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway numerous times, it's not scary but is real long and you don't see boats on the lake, the lake isn't very deep, 10 to 15 ft.

There’s nothing scary about the Lake Ponchartrain Bridge. I cross it daily and you can see land in either direction all the way across. It is 24 miles long but at 65 to 70 miles per hour it only takes about twenty minutes to get across. Over the years the bridge has been upgraded to include safety bays and higher guardrails. And it has a total of 7 cross overs connecting both the north and south bound spans. And finally it is patrolled 24 hours a day by the Causeway Police Department.

I agree. I first drove across when I was in my late teens and it never occurred to me to be frightened of it. However, not far away in New Orleans is (or was) the old Huey P Long bridge, before it was widened. I crossed it many times, and even under the best circumstances it was always nerve-wracking. The river below was always a little too visible, and it was noisy, meaning even if there was no traffic the sounds the bridge made as you crossed it would make it a little creepy. What was really frightening was rush hour during a strong thunderstorm, as football-field-sized tugboats and barges pass beneath. I’ve traveled mountain highways in the high Himalayas of Nepal, and I’ve crossed some frightening bridges, but nothing dramatically worse than the old Huey P under bad circumstances.

    12. U BEIN should pronounce EAU BIN . It means Mr. Skinny in English. The bridge was built by U Bin, the mayor of the city at the time. Just sharing ✌️

We were tempted to go partway on a bamboo bridge in China but then got shown the warning signs in Chinese that it was not maintained and the beams were really old, some rotting and it was just waiting to break through under someone's weight. The Chinese person explained people were warned not to use it. It was just there to remind people of Communist history because it had been built in Mao's time and was used by Communists. So basically it was just there for tourists to take pictures of. So we just continued on our previous idea which was hiking up the local mini mountain.

the first bridge is a rail bridge? really? not a single train, not a single train track, help us understand your thinking and why you refer to it as a rail bridge. I see 6 lanes of car traffic, but that doesn't make it a rail bridge. wonder how many more you f'ed up
