- There are many fish pies out there, with some of them being over eight quid. This version from What's Cooking is the cheapest one I've found, so let's see if it's cheap, as well as cheerful...

I honestly had such incredibly low hopes here... I'm shocked and delighted to find out how good this was! I guess they kept the price down by keeping the fish volume down, yet it sounds like they weren't flimsy on the flavour. Nice to hear Pap. Thank you!
As was mentioned to me earlier Rhubarb, just a tray of cheesy mash for 79p is worth it! :D
@@Papparoni But only if you say "tray" just right!
Amazing for just 79p Looked tasty too.
Really good value Lee, I'll be getting some more.. :)
LOL. I thought that those were rice grains. I see now they are cute flowers. LOL. I love when you find animal shapes in the food. I definitely see the spooky character. Looks like a win! "Until next time, Get outa here!" But 1st .. Bloopers. 😂😂😂😂
A rice topped pie sounds like something that could be really good Sandee! :D
@@Papparoni I agree. Cheers brother. So glad that we met! Always look forward to visiting.
That looks suspiciously like a Young's fisherman's pie in disguise
It may well be Dave! :)
❤
Best send up of a product I've come across yet. Well done, you managed to keep from laughing or blowing it from gagging for the whole video!! Loved it.
Literally just had another, with extra cheese and salt, fantastic! :D
Good value Pappa, and the angle of dangle didn't disappoint. Nothing to double entendre here! Brilliant as always.
Brilliant! One could say that the 'angle of dangle' adjusts with age!
What a lovely load of pollocks! 😜
It’s says Youngs Seafood on the side of the box. A Youngs fish pie in Lidil clothing. I enjoyed it.
Well spotted Sean :D
I've just eaten one of these and it's much nicer than the Young's versio which costs more. I will buy this one in future. Thanks for the review!
You're welcome Martha. It pleases me when I hear that you chaps can save some money, and have a better experience :)
I will defo try this thanks
Fill your boots Jackie! :)
These are very good for the price
Val, I'm so glad I tried this as it's now my go to cheap fish pie!
No tanks 😁..the best is Charlie Bigham's Shepherds Pies.. 5 pounds for the best Quality 💪😋
For the small ones yes Lo. Bigham's food is incredible!
Definitely picking up a couple of these when I'm in Lidl next getting some pear cider
@@justanotherkaren237 I like your thinking! 😂 🍻
I always enjoy the ones where the meal is rather on the sketchy side but they turn out to be just the best ones and you are pleasantly surprised! The full range of emotions on display! 😂
I would have just passed this one, especially for only 79p. It can't be good, can it? Apparently it is possible!
Nice to see you Danikk. I was expecting a 6/10 here, pleasanylt surprised! :D
I can't think of anything worse to stick in my gob pap! That is saying something!
I'm sure it is potpot! :D
You’ve sold it to me! I’m going to buy this!
Go for it mate, I'm getting a few in!
Well I didn't expect that
You and me both Joe, I was predicting maybe a 6 or 7, goes to show value is sometimes good!
I've only had fish pie once, and it wasn't that great and I love seafood. I'm going to make my own at home.
I bet it'd be great to take a swim in your homemade one :D
Nice review papps
Always pleases me that you're pleased Kizzy :D
gonna get this one paps cheers for the thumbs up
Go for it Dave. I added a pinch of salt to the last bit and wow!
I used to buy the Young's Fisherman's Pie 300g for just a quid Papp... (Alaska Pollock Content is 15% the same as the Aldi Fish Pie) ... It was cheap and cheerful for when i fancied something fish related for a quick meal... But the price has since risen by 50% in the last few months... So it's no longer all that cheep... Even the microwave Young's Kipper Fillets with Butter 170g... Have risen in price from a quid to £1.40... And to be honest i can't see the prices dropping anytime soon... In fact the prices will probably increase even further in the next few months... But the Aldi Fish Pie for just £0.79... Is a very good price my friend... I'll give this one a try the next time i visit an Aldi store... Thanks for the heads-up Papp... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺
You're welcome Rick. I'll be getting a few of these in whilst they're still 79p. As for price increases, I guarantee they will keep increasing. as that is the plan ;)
What a load of old "pollocks" It had to be said paps 🧐
It did Steven! They were tasty cheesy pollocks as well! :D
@@Papparoni The mind boggles paps 🤯
Thank you for another brilliant video Pappa, I remember trying the Iceland fish pie and thinking it was pretty bang average so surely this is a lot nicer than it, and at 79p you really can't go wrong! I shall definitely have to get involved with this and it seems that the Lidl really know what they are doing with their cheap and cheerful 'What's Cooking?' range as the beef dinner you reviewed a fair old while back now was really good also! Thanks Pap 😊
Oh yes Mr Atkinson, the beef dinner! As usual I'd forgotten about that but I can always rely on you to remind me what I've done over the years! :D
@@Papparoni Just had this for my lunch today Peppa and I'm blown away by how nice it really is! Amazing, one of the best fish pies I've ever tasted and in fact it was so good I'd happily eat another! I added a little bit of salt and a crack of black pepper to it as well as adding some garden peas. I will DEFINITELY get another next time I go to Lidl and for just 79p as well, absolute bargain for this delicious meal! 😋
@@robertatkinson1347 Totally agree with you Mr Atkinson. I'll be stopping off on my way home later to get a few more in! :D
i do like my younges fish pie tbh when i cba to propper cook lol so fur 79p i may give this ago
I'm with you, I've nuked a Young's fish pie many times. I think this one is just as nice.
Yum I love cheesy fish pie especially home made with smoked haddock 😍 looks no bad for less than a quid.
My friend, this is my go to cheap fish pie now, the butter sauce is wonderful with the mash!
Reminds me of the Youngs frozen Fisherman's Pie, they're normally around a pound and have 15% pollock. I've always enjoyed the Youngs pies so I'm guessing I'd enjoy this one as well.
I reckon you would Chaat Man. I'm ditching the Young's pies for this one as I like the butter sauce so much!
That's because it literally is, says so on the box. I put the boxes side by side once, same ingredients in the same order and made in the same place, both by Young's.
Lidl and Aldi often get their stuff straight from the brands, it's just re-labelled. Some of Aldi's yoghurts are from Muller and Lidl's hardware was made by Bosch.
Hi Papparoni, nice review, this would be nicer in the oven or air fryer. This can be a hit and miss product some times you get bit more fish in it, price wise 79p out standing. Aldi one is slightly better. At one point you would have got a fish mixture in it, but with the cost of inflation you will only get Alaska pollock in it now.
Quite right Thomas, and eventually it will be plant based fish! :D
Nice cheesey dangle going on there! No droop! Gonna swap Youngs admiral pie for this delightful dish at half the price! Lovely jubbly 🐟
Brilliant! I'm swapping for the same Lynne, great butter sauce action with this one!
Dinosaur 🦕/ 🦎 😂😂😂 I have to agree prefer the carton to plastic , looks good for 79p 🧐👌
Deffo worth a go Explorer! :D
Brave trying that 🙈
Glad I was brave, lovely thing! :D
Just had one a couple days ago. Not much fish, but the mash is pretty nice.
Indeed my favourite bit was the mash with that butter sauce.
Nice review papps and even though I am not a fan of Alaska Pollack I do like a good fish pie and even though I prefer homemade it's good to see a quality product that's under a pound in these crazy priced days 👍👍🥔🥔🐬🐬
Quite right Robert! :D

Welcome! :)
Good afternoon x I'm willing to try these out. Lol not fishy enough, pollock is as good as cod they say. Must try soon, thank you so inexpensive, so the taste, is everything. Looks good 🧀.
In my experience Miss Dream, pollock is very similar to haddock and perfectly lovely :D
@ARCHDEACON They don't call it Cod because they can't. It tastes fine
Ain’t had a fish pie in a while, will need to get one soon!
You'll probably need four of these mate the rate you train!
Very surprised about that , even if you wanted to class it as creamy mash at 79p it’s good .
Never thought about it like that, you're quite right RR! :D
Price is now £1.25
Scandalous my friend, and only to continue upwards..
Papp. It's one thing to review the food, but you also have to "Face" it...
It's a fat chance bub we'd ever get a fish pie topped with starfish mash. So I'll just sit and watch you eat one. I had a leftover piece of beer battered Alaskan Pollock for breakfast yesterday. Nice between buttered toast. Now I'm singing the Fish Monger song.. Cockles and Mussels alive, alive ho...
Cheers Papp. 👍🤤
I laughed out loud at your breakfast John, superb! Funny you should mention beer battered pollock as I've just got some in, possibly for my breakfast tomorrow! :D
@@Papparoni enjoy 👍🤤
Cheesy fishy pie 🤔🤔🤔 reminds me of a Friday night back in day, no Thankyou not for me 🤢🤢🤢
The mind boggles Andrew! :D
As much as you entice me into indulging I find the pollock content is a bit too high, 0% would work for me.
It’s there again….I can’t stop saying ‘treay’
I know you know Spye, that I say tray that way all the time, even when I'm on my own.
@@Papparoni I’m going to consciously say it during Teams meetings tomorrow at work and of course an Oh Yeah will be said too.
