I made 130 of these during the first outbreak of Covid. I put a button on each side so the nurses and doctors could put the elastic from the masks onto the buttons instead of their ears.( Some of their ears were bleeding from the mask pulling on them) I just received a plea for a few from friends who are nurses.
Thank You for a great pattern!💕🇺🇸

I made one of these yesterday, turned out good. I made mine differently and would like to share my method. I used a serger, so didn't feel doubling the center panel was necessary. When I put the band on, I sewed the outside edge of the band and both sides of the ties together and turned and pressed them. Next I sewed the band to the cap from the inside like you would the collar on a shirt. I turned it to the outside, and top stitched it down. I serged the edge of the tail and turned and topstitched a narrow hem. Lot less hassle in my opinion. Great pattern.

Thank you so much! I'm an Italian nurse, I work in a big hospital in Milan, and in these trying days I and my colleagues really needed something like your cap pattern to have a layer between the skin and the protective headgear. I'm almost done sewing my first one (white with giant black musical notes), and if it works I'll sew one for each colleague in my ward. Not sure if I'll keep the kite-shaped tail, maybe I'll shorten it a bit. I've chosen 100% cotton as it will have to withstand high temperature washing and sanitizing. Thank you again, your video was very clear, the pattern perfect, and it was fun watching you sew the cap and being able to relax for a few minutes. Ciao!

All in all, this is a great instructional video. I can always do with more close-ups of the some of the areas you’re sewing like the initial darts- how far you sew up and down because it’s hard to tell if you go all the way past and just how far you go. Also, the folding in of the side flaps when you’re sewing the initial inside out if that makes any sense. I made my first one your way and its grand. I’m making some for my gardening friend and he needs more than one ply on the side panels (lots of sweating) so I’m doing it with two ply on the sides and I’m assembling it a little different, but both ways have worked excellent. I very much appreciate your pattern that I can download. Thanks, Rob

I made this cap a while ago and remember I struggled with it. I had another request to make one and thought i could whip it up quickly. I had a terrible time with this project. The video is rushed, the camera doesn’t zoom in to show things clearly, terms like, “the eye” are not explained. I watched the video over and over, step by step, I ripped and ripped and eventually had to pull the entire thing apart and start all over. I finally finished it as I figured out all my mistakes. I was frustrated through the whole thing, I’m not a new sewer, I’ve constructed clothes and I’m a quitter. Written instructions with still pictures for each step showing each step before and after
would help tremendously. I’ve watched many videos by Rob and enjoyed them. He made this cap look easy to sew but that’s because he’s done it lots of times. If he could remake this video with beginners in mind, he would leave many more people happy.

The other tricky part is that finished edge- make sure not to sew it into the cap when sewing around it. I do think pinning is necessary especially when rolling it tight- but better than pins, use sewing clips.

The instructions were easy to follow but I found that if you sew the little flap section and stop at 3/8 instead of 1/4, that helps no catching it when you sew the kite tail sections together. I also don't remember if you mention about clipping the inside corner to help it lay flatter. I would have included a picture of the finished one, but I can't attach it. Thanks anyway.

Great doo rag. Had some problems that I solved by watching the video closely again and again. The side pieces must be cut out as mirror images and the same with the band ends, two must be the same and two must be mirror images of the first two. I am starting my second one now and it will go much faster now that I have learned the trick with the pattern pieces. Thanks for the video.

You have to place two layers of fabric on top of each other. I do the center pieces on the fold, then refold and do the rest, with two sets of the band ends

That gave me more confidence and knowledge to complete my headpiece that has a similar complexity to sew together. What was most helpful for s sewing and fashion template like me was that sewing machine guide thing. I’m having trouble staying on the seam along round edges. That tool would be an invaluable add to my sewing machine collection.

How did I miss this??? I have many of your videos saved, but missed this. My son just had 3 more surgeries this summer and I wanted to make some new caps to protect his sutures. Thank you!! (I think I’ll make some for his Neuro team for Christmas, too)

I loved the skully cap and your directions were so good. I’ve made 6 of them so far. I wrapped the first ones up and they are already under the tree. Glad I saw you on several Missouri Star Quilt videos. That made me start watching your videos. Thanks for all your ideas and tutorials! Merry Christmas!

WOW!! Sure glad i found this tutorial! It was great - thank you so much! I am making skully caps for my grandson. He was just diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and starting chemotherapy Tuesday. So I want him to have some fashionable caps while he waits for his hair to grow back. My first one is a print with cats - he loves cats.

Thank you so much for this well-designed and constructed cap. My first one turned out great and sorry I used ugly fabric. I purchased a template from Etsy and made one last week and it was awful! I made a cap for a small pointy head! I can't wait to make another one in nicer fabric. Thanks again!!

Don't tape on the pointy piece of the center to the pattern. This will make a duck tail instead of a "kite"

And you kept saying Eye piece. .Did you mean ear piece.
      I am so confused!
      Maybe a revised version!!
      Thanks!
