I don't know if any of you are affiliated with Madison, Wisconsin, but there's a street that is called State Street. There's a lot of rich folk but down the road is where a lot of homeless people live. I sit down with a group of friends and sing this song, as well with many other amazing classics like Dust in The Wind, etc, in the richer areas. We raise, maybe 100 dollars each time, and we go to the homeless areas, and either give money to them or buy them Lunch. It feels great to help people, but it also feels great to sit down with a group of friends, singing poetic songs like this, with a crowd of people around of you.
The guitar riff is awesome, a classic that will live on forever but it's the organ that "steals the show" on this song ... along with Eric's powerful vocals.
I don't wish i was born in the classic rock era, but i do wish i could experience these bands like my dad did, being born in the 50's listening to queen, animals, and the stones ect.
zak 1208 born in the early 90s but I learn to enjoy music from every era and every genre. Music is like art, one form of art isnt better than another form, its just portrayed and delivered in a different way.
zak 1208 Not born in the wrong generation for liking older music. This music is still here, you aren't alone for liking it. Good art never dies. I love J S Bach, I don't think I was born in the wrong century for it. :P :) The benefit you have over people born in the 70s is you have instant access to all the music ever recorded, by way of the internet and other media, whereas actual children of the 70s often only had what their local store had stocked.
This is music. Once, a friend of mine who only listens to rap music heard this song, was mad, and said, "Here! Let's listen to some _real_ music!" He's not my friend anymore.
I hate to spout the usual shit like "ZOMG THIS IS REAL MUSIC!!!1 MODERN MUSIC SUX!!" but, modern music doesn't give me goosebumps. This is what real music sounds like ;D
Oh, there's a good few, but finding them is looking for a needle buried under a layer of hay and buried 2 inches under dirt the hay lays on. But listen to Message to Bears, Josh Woodward, and Tree. Those are some decent indie hipster garbage (loosely used) bands.
Well, clearly we know that it's under the hay so all we have to do is mark around the hay, move the hay, dig two inches, and grab the fuckin' needle. Personally, I don't like a lot of music after the 90's, but I won't say it's not real music. My problem with a lot of modern music is that it lacks substance, but, then again, record companies have been pushing that kind of music for as long as they've been around. Each generation seems to have something negative to say about the following generations music; honestly, I'd go as far as to say that kids of today will do the same things to their children and call their music many of the things you're saying about the current generations music. Music, or any art form in my opinion, is a mirror that reflects the society that currently exists, even if that description is inaccurate or is generally symptomatic of the state of where the world is currently at. You could even go as far to say that the shittiest main-stream modern act, subjectively speaking, reflects the state of the music industry and the fact that it regularly pumps out these acts that lack substance. Even if it's music you don't like, it's still music, nonetheless.
This is what real fucking music sounds like. Most songs played on the radio nowadays are just catchy beats with meaningless lyrics and artists who are starving for fame and will put anything out if they know it will make them a quick buck.
Like that song who run the world. It had 6 writers 5 producers and autotune. Bohemian Raphsody had 1 writer, and 1 producer and 1 singer, with meaningful lyrics.
But a lot of people don't know what real music is. A sheep will just follow because everyone else is following. Individuals are going extinct and everyone is becoming arrigato Mr.robots.
Well, aren't you sweet, Emma. People are soo quick to judge today's artists because of supposed meaningless lyrics and a hunger for fame and fortune yet they themselves yammer on about same ridiculously meaningless and amazingly unoriginal bullshit, without much idea what they are actually saying, just to get a few thumbs up. Pity.
LarryMyster so you'd rather the song fade away instead of finding new mediums to appeal to further generations? I was maybe 7 or 8 when i first heard this song in Adam Sandler's Waterboy for christ sakes. How someone finds it is not important. What's important is that they do find it and learn to appreciate the song and hopefully the artist's other music.
+Mikayla Faith you are spot on, on my age. Great work. However let's just say my grandparents and parents are good at choosing music. And this music is well beyond good then today's music.
Fin S.H. They have a really good taste in music. If you enjoy a nice paranormal story with two masculine but very emotionally funny brothers, then its your show. I loved the series as soon as I saw the pilot episode.
There is quite a few houses in New Orleans. They're all pretty normal. Nothing too spectacular. Yeah, my mom also made me some jeans. They're alright. A bit tight though. Yeah, my dads also Major Tom. He's a junkie.
Wesley Martin Yeah but music nowadays is optimized to get 10 year old girls' money. Good stuff gets pushed to the side because they don't make as much money.
New Orleans, and getting caught in the cross winds, as in the internal struggle that everyone has. This is one of the few good rock songs my parents had.
***** On a drunk: It is turning a verb into a noun, like: Is driving -> is on a drive Is drinking -> is on a drunk. Probably for days, It has to rhyme with trunk.

I always imagine a lone cowboy from a western movie riding into the red and orange horizon of a setting sun when I listen to this. Not sure what his journey is, or what purpose he has for travelling, but I know it's going to be long, bloody, and successful. Don't ask why I always imagine that, I don't know either.

My dad played the house of the rising sun on his guitar to put me to sleep when I was a baby. Love it n always will.
Richard Mcduffie Cool Dad.
Richard Mcduffie i swear to God every dad who could play guitar was able to play this xD
EliteProductions its not about being able to, its about doing.
Richard Mcduffie one heck of a childhood
+Richard Mcduffie "The House Of the Rising Sun" was real. Do you know what it was ?
The guitar riff is awesome, a classic that will live on forever but it's the organ that "steals the show" on this song ... along with Eric's powerful vocals.
Agreed, especially when the use of the organ in rock was just started going as a mainstream essential instrument.
organs are the best
I know; when those kidneys came in for the solo I almost lost it.
lol
i agree.
you know what brought me here. good musical taste.
+c laird same here ;)
I really like this song but I also like new trap music.
+multitransfirm. what the hell is trap music?
+c laird its a type of rap originating from the ATL
+multitransfirm never heard of it.

+john lemmon what's funny is I actually have the vinyl and the cd for most of my favorite albums
They don't make music like this anymore.

Thank you, Supernatural.
That's gay
Fuck off with your fragile ass masculinity thinking that gay is an insult bullshit
+William Godwin i don't really see how is that gay ._.
enlighten me
+Sailor Mars u guys are everywhere
I don't see that gay unless you mean gay as in bad and stupid then that makes sense but if its gay as in the gay we all know then that's just stupid.

That track is nearly 50 years old and it still owns, totally... Awesome

Real music is orchestra, in my opinion.
Though that's music in the purist form, no filter of voice or electronics needed.

Jokūbas Algimantas Turčakovas
Thanks for the input.
Ethan Bussey Freddy Mercury himself admitted the lyrics to Bohemian Raphsody don't actually mean anything for what that's worth.
Everyone I know perceives me to only like newer rock music; but they don't know how much I appreciate classic rock as well :)
Makes me think of Supernatural, I do always check behind my seat whenever this appears on the radio.
you are amazing
Thank you for confirming my statement I say to myself every day when I look in the mirror.- winks- lol
If you discovered this song through the Mafia III trailer, you are too young.
You are never too young to like music from the before time. So much better than most of the cramp today
LarryMyster so you'd rather the song fade away instead of finding new mediums to appeal to further generations? I was maybe 7 or 8 when i first heard this song in Adam Sandler's Waterboy for christ sakes. How someone finds it is not important. +Mikayla Faith you are spot on, on my age. Great work. However let's just say my grandparents and parents are good at choosing music. And this music is well beyond good then today's music.
Well then....
Supernatural & the version of Sons Of Anarchy "Charming Town" !!
yeah i remember like it was yesterday
Why does all the best music end up in Supernatural? Maybe this is a sign that I need to join a new fandom....
Fin S.H.
They have a really good taste in music. If you enjoy a nice paranormal story with two masculine but very emotionally funny brothers, then its your show. I loved the series as soon as I saw the pilot episode.
Fin S.H. YES. WATCH THE BEST SHOW EVER..PLEASE
love the way the rhythem rolls along like a train gathering speed !
In my humble opinion...this is about addiction of all kinds.
Love love love this song. They just don't make music like this anymore.
There is quite a few houses in New Orleans.
They're all pretty normal.
Nothing too spectacular.
Yeah, my mom also made me some jeans.
They're alright.
A bit tight though.
Yeah, my dads also Major Tom.
He's a junkie.
lmao
i wish the music of my generation was more like this. it's so tiring always hearing songs about sex drugs and party hards set to a generic beat
This is about sex and drugs though lol
fuck off. music isnt all that today. dont be lazy, go find the substance you're looking for.
so tell me how and why music went from that to wrecking ball by miley cyrus
Now you my friend are smart
Jordyn Anne and you my friend are damn cute lol
Money
***** id pay money to listen to this song, you couldn't pay me ENOUGH to listen to wrecking ball
Wesley Martin Yeah but music nowadays is optimized to get 10 year old girls' money. Good stuff gets pushed to the side because they don't make as much money.
How any anyone NOT like this song? I think they just give thumbs down for no reason.
This is a great song! This is one of the first songs I learned on the guitar back in high school.
I always get a Civil War vibe about this song. Don't know why.
+Percy Pourier do you mean American Civil War or the movie?
+Garrett Dalley I'm quite sure he means Civil War in general.
+Garrett Dalley American Civil War, or the "Civil War".
New Orleans, and getting caught in the cross winds, as in the internal struggle that everyone has. This is one of the few good rock songs my parents had.
cause it sounds like one
"In the end, all she had left was $3,600 in mint condition coins..."
Damn crackwhores.
Who?
Its a reference to the end scene of the robert de niro movie casino en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casino_(film)
bro I got it rite away. drunk irish bitch got ran threw by bikers and a hot batch. great flick
Greatest song of all time.
nope
It is a classic song but no. Stairway reserves that title for all time.
nah, I think otherwise, in my eyes, bohemian and free bird are no. 1
Sir Lord Chiken as in Lynyrd Skynyrd- Free Bird, if yes, i agree
Sir Lord Chiken I believe every classic rock song is number one, there's just too many to pick from
1:34
it's "drunk"
not "drug"
right
I KNEW IT!! HAHAHAHA
Furlog Giant Yes, but I don't get it. Gambler on a drunk? It means..?
*****
On a drunk:
It is turning a verb into a noun, like:
Is driving -> is on a drive
Is drinking -> is on a drunk.
Probably for days,
It has to rhyme with trunk.
***** it's not on a drunk, it's "all a drunk" kind of a southern way of saying he was drunk
jeez just chill and enjoy this masterpiece
Prepare for the wave of Suicide Squad fans.
I was surprised they had the song in the movie to be honest, I almost started singing along to it
😂 trueeee
Haha i did start singing along.
I did sing along, they had great music, too bad SSS "fans" only now know the songs from the movie, they're great classics..
yo does no one remember Soa had this song at the end of one of they episodes...
this song takes me back to a time where people actually gave a crap about music and tried to make it good
Does anyone else think about the war in Vietnam while listening to this?
Who doesn't?
I think of WWII against the Japanese because of The Rising Sun
Vietnam AND a baseball bat :3
never thought of it that way! nice thinking!
Because this song is used in a lot of Vietnam war movies plus it's made during the Vietnam war era
"When it looked like they could get twenty-five years to life in prison just for skimming a casino, sick or no fuckin' sick you knew people were going to get clipped." ~ That line always cracks me up. With this gem of a song in the background.
***** *next scene* 5 shots to the back of the head.
***** Look....why take a chance? Least that's how I see it.
Damn! I've been listening to this song for over half a century, and I finally got the lyrics I can now die happy
my keyboard taught me this song...ive known it all my life damn near....i still play it!!!
All I can do is thank my parents for introducing me to real timeless music like this as a child.
The Animals didn't actually write this song. It started as a folk song in New Orleans.
+UrAwsome55 this is still their version. :P
that keyboard is why i like older songs, you just cant find that kinda thing used nowadays on pop songs
I always imagine a lone cowboy from a western movie riding into the red and orange horizon of a setting sun when I listen to this. Not sure what his journey is, or what purpose he has for travelling, but I know it's going to be long, bloody, and successful.
Don't ask why I always imagine that, I don't know either.
rpg game?
I didn't understand 98% of the comments on this except for "damn this song is good" and "I wish I was born in the 60's or 80's"
DropDead Darling i always wish that

Since when are the Beatles Rock?!?!
+da. Right? They suck
+RSGames Yes, exactly.
actually the Beatles came first. they opened the door to the "British Invasion"
fuck off, the beatles are the best.
i listened this song in supernatural and i'm happy that i found it!!
I have noticed that the soundtrack for that entire show is pretty badass. They used 'Wheel in the Sky" once.
Reece Milam
Don't forget "Carry on my Wayward son"
imagine waking up in the middle of surgery to this song playing. CRAZY EXPERIENCE BUT MADE ME LOVE THIS SONG EVEN MORE!!!
I remembered this song I was 23 years old! I still love it👍❤️
I CANT BLEAVE 824 PEOPLE DISLIKED THIS SONG IT GREAT!

one of the first song's i learnd how to play when i was 10yrs old
Takes me back to being in the audience of TOTP in Manchester in 1966.

What a song...this reminds me of happy days when my brother learnt to play this on his electric guitar...RIP Jimmy xxxx
Sounds like things were bad enough before the devil got there.

the only time he's satisfied is when he is all drunk
+Ralph Amesbury Haha same.
+Ralph Amesbury "The only time he's satisfied is when he's on a trump"
As in, he is only satisfied when he thinks he's going to win at the card table.
on drugs
LOL No! It's "ON A DRUNK" according to Bob Dylan in 1962, and over a decade before that according to Woody Guthrie, and according to the 1964 album by The Animals. Do some research. Even the modern day karaoke versions display it, lol.
Thank God for Classics like this to remind me WHERE I CAME FROM, WHERE I AM, N WHERE THE HELL I THINK IM GOING!!!

Animals - House Of The Rising Sun ( Lyrics )
One of my old time favorites .
It's sad that music like this does not exist anymore.
Eric's voice is out of this world.
I get a family feud vibe feeling with this song not sure why
I think it's clear he's at odd with his father.
"best blues song ever" lol
Even though I haven't kept up with it, this was one of the first songs my guitar teacher taught my high school class.
my aunt can sing this song like an angel :3
+2MLG4U But you gotta scream the shit out of it like eric burdon does.
Awesome classic! One of the best!!!!
My Dad was born in 1967 I was born in 1995 and I don't think he even liked this song. I never heard him listening to it. I just find that great that he didn't like it and his 21 year old son does. Maybe it's just me.

You know what brought me here? My middle school english teacher.
Mafia 3 baby!!!!!
the only time he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk? not a drug. Am I deaf or did they get it wrong?
Ginger Pastrick You are quite correct
Its drug
Ginger Pastrick you are correct. drunk rhymes with trunk
Ginger Pastrick I like to think of it was "is when he's all drunk"
Ginger Pastrick It is in fact on a drunk, the word does work like that.
Thank you Bob Dylan for another masterpiece and to the Animals for singing the best version.
Honestly i'm just here because I was rewatching the earlier seasons of Supernatural and this song came up. I've heard it before but not in a long time. It's a pretty damn good song honestly
supernatural af
