    Is there only one door blend actuator, the motorized part that you plug the power into? Like one for driver side and one for passenger side? And same question with the gear part.

    • @curtisnstacey
      @curtisnstacey  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes there are 2 actuators that you plug in. One for each side. When you buy the gear kit it comes with 2 gears. One for each side. The actuators come separate.

      did you make sure the gear is lined up with the arrow on the actuator? if not the spindle will go to far and break the gear again. or it'll make the gears strip out in the actuator itself

      @@chadkostecka4226 i bet this is your problem. over time the blend door seal wears out with the back and forth and it leaves a sticky residue especially in the summer time when its hot. so when you turn it to 60 deg it'll shut that door all the way and make it stick. so when you turn the temp etc...the sticky door is hard to open back up and it stresses the gears and breaks. here's what to do. fix it again and dont click the temp all the way down. lets say 5 degrees before it maxes out. lowest it can go is 60 so dont take it below 65 in summer. in winter take it less than 5 deg on the high end. i forget how high they go.

    Does this cause the vents to close inside? I have a problem on a 14 Durango citadel where after driving it for about 15 minutes the air in the vents slowly start clogging and eventually don't blow any air out. It happens with heat and cold. I've been to the dealer about 4 times and they can't seem to figure out what the problem is. And help would be appreciated thanks.

    • @curtisnstacey

    • @curtisnstacey
      @curtisnstacey  Před 2 lety +1

      you can replace just one side and thats the only side that'll work properly. when the passenger side went out it was making the blower fan turn off and on off and on all the time in my situation. but if your blower is still blowing just fine and its just that you cant change the temp setting then yes just replacing one will fix that side and your good to go until you fix the other side

    • @curtisnstacey
      @curtisnstacey  Před 2 lety

      @@jalvarez7585 assuming that your a/c level is fine. be very sure that you have the gears on the actuator and the gears on the blend door to mesh in the middle when they are at rest. if not then it'll never get all the way cold and then in the winter when you go to adjust the heat all the way it will be very likely that the gear will break because it'll be forcing the gear due to it being a tooth or two off.

    Only issue with this video is there's no reason to why that gear broke.. that gear breaks because the blend door has some foam glued on the edge to help seal it to full hot or full cold.. but that glue starts to melt with high heat and eventually holds that door closed.. that gear can't overcome that glue and therefore breaks.. took me replacing these 3 times to notice it gets stuck.

    • @curtisnstacey
      @curtisnstacey  Před rokem

      So once you figured that out what did you do about the glue that was making it break?

      @2wheelTyler Před rokem

      @@curtisnstacey I initially put a small screw into the spot of the gear that touches the stop point of the actuator that keeps it from turning more in the heat direction.. but that confuses the actuator and it tries to force it.. so now Im going to just take it all apart and try to get to the doors and remove the glue. For now I just don't blast high heat I keep it around 75 any hotter and the actuator wrenches down on the door and that's when the glue sticks.

      @@curtisnstacey half of fixing something that is broken is figuring out why it broke. If you haven't had an issue with it after switching it out then good for you. But that gear breaks for a reason and what I've found from my own experience and what I've heard from others is that it the door gets jammed. Swapping the gear only buys you time till it breaks again.

      @curtisnstacey  Před rokem +1

      @@2wheelTyler I know exactly why it broke and I explain how they break in the other video which I done the other side on. And my opinion on what to do was do not move the thermostat all the way hot and all the way cold so it won’t stick. The job actually fixing it versus fixing the gear are light years apart. You got to take down the whole dash. Not fun. And affording that fix is not for everyone. Make a detailed video yourself and I’ll come watch and critique. No prob at all
