- Take a look around the beautiful show gardens at the RHS Flower Show Cardiff 2018, the first big event of the gardening year.
I visited RHS Cardiff for the first time this year, and really enjoyed looking around the show gardens. The weather in Cardiff's Bute Park was a bit cold and grey at first, but I guess that's to be expected in April!
Join me as I show you some of the highlights from this year's show gardens, and discover which garden won the coveted 'Best Show Garden' award.

These little gardens are stunning. I always love gardens with water in them.
I always enjoy looking around the show gardens, they're so creative!
Such beautiful and interesting gardens. I love the creativity and uniqueness of all the different garden displays. It's like traveling the world through plants.
Such a foggy day. Loved the reflection of the past garden. Great idea to disguise the water tanks.
Despite a dull foggy day, the RHS Flower Show looks great. Would love to go there next year.
Very impressive show! Love all the close up flower shots and that giant watering can is awesome! 🌻
I really love all of the flowers and greenery. That "yarn bombing" installation is so cool - the knit watering can! I love it! Japanese gardens are also my total fave.
These installations are so cool! So much creativity on show. Really interesting to see all of the different styles from different cultures too - the information you showed on each was really helpful. Really liked the one that incorporated the habitats for insects.
Very pretty. Love many of the installations especially the urban regeneration garden. Wow! Great overview!
Looks very pretty, and a photographers dream too! Great video :)
What a beautiful and green view! Really enjoyed watching the b-rolls on flowers and installations! Great use of transition by the way :)
What beautiful footage you took! It looks like it was a lovely event.
Thank you very much for sharing this video. Real talents with nature. I see that you have managed to reach quite a lot of people with this video. Congrats.
This looks like so much fun!!!
This looks amazing, I would love to visit one near me one day.
That first shot is so atmospheric with the spooky mist! Love the different styles and exhibits, so much to look at for inspiration
Nice gardens! Very pretty. I think I liked the Japanese garden the best.
I love flower shows, so interesting to see all the different ideas and how you can bring those little bits into your garden. Fantastic show
Owh my, I am NOT going to show this to my BF as he loves gardens and would 100% want to go there. Lol, maybe I should show it to him. Looks like a great day!
Wow what a beautiful show. I love the gardens with water in them, it adds so much to the look!
Me too, the water features always catch my eye!
I've never been to a flower show - I'm sure I'd come back hating my garden and wanting to spend a fortune on it! haha x
It looks so lovely and relaxing here. My garden looks awful and is in real need of inspiration.
Beautiful!! :)
Thank you!
So beautiful! Really wish I was more green-fingered. The reflection display is so pretty and unique x
I love the RHS Flower Show but not been to the Cardiff one, and this looks like such a fun event, great video share
ooh a flower show! How fun and pretty. Lovely footage.
Thanks Nikki - it's a lovely day out!
Was such a lovely day out and all the gardens were so beautiful. Pity it was so so busy though as was hoping to bump into you
Wish I'd been sent to make it down this year, looks so beautiful
Those human Christmas trees were kind of interesting, haha. I like how each garden has a title and theme at this show.
It's all about the show gardens! I loved the one based on the childhood in Korea...
This year my fave gardens were Cwm Caerdydd and Disequalibrium which I thought was beautifully innovative. In contrast though tbh I actually didn't think much of the show winner, too much concrete and not enough plants for me. I go with my mum, both of us keen gardeners, and we love getting new plants and new ideas for our gardens and exploring the marquees etc.
Mark really liked the winner, but I agree with you. I don't like too much hard landscaping in a garden. I thought Cwm Caerdydd was gorgeous!
I didn't know there was an RHS Flower Show in Cardiff. Really want to go to something like this this year.
Some very stylish garden designs although I do think some could do with adding an old sofa and a wheelie bin to get the urban look. Are you going this year?
The show was great this year & we all loved the show gardens. But the Urban regeneration garden after the show ended up on a landfill site. This was given a gold by the RHS. The carbon footprint of this was the largest of all the gardens as it was all concrete, but to scoop the whole thing up in a truck & dump it is disgusting. I'm sure Sally you would agree.
Seriously? I'm really shocked and disappointed if that's true. At previous shows that I've been to, gardens are often broken down and either resold or donated. Sometimes they're transplanted completely intact into new locations. But if all of that concrete ended up in landfill, that's really not good at all :-(
Sally Akins it was cheaper to dump it than clean it up & re-use & yes it's true. Under the main title of a reclamation garden this seems the total opposite. The Korean garden was donated to Bridgend college with its own, pams garden was mostly sent back to suppliers, mikes was bagged up & re-used, and Andrews was sent back to where it came from. So to me this simply is extreme bad practice & is not worth of gold or any RHS medal. If the garden is about the brief & the paperwork which is extensive on local source materials & what will happen after the show then quite simply the designer lied to everyone.
Don't get me wrong it was a good design, but obviously knowing it was all going to waste was part of that design. I somewhat feel a London designer coming to Cardiff to get a gold medal for the sake of a gold puts a spin on the whole RHS business. All the other gardens were local people designing what local people love & not & should not be influenced by London dictating what they believe Welsh people should like.
It does taint my feelings about the garden :-( Do you have a link anywhere about this? It does seem wrong, especially for a regeneration garden!
Sally Akins There is know link to that. As there is know link to after show activities at all. But I can tell you it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Any of the local designers will confirm this. The water in the tanks was siphoned out into the park also, friends of Bute Park would have fits, it should have been taken off sight.
The point is Sally, the RHS would not except a design if in writing you openly said that the materials will not be used again. This effects the design ultimately, there was one designer who took 100% of the materials off site & the design had to take that into account. It's extremely important & shouldn't be just brushed under the carpet. It's totally irresponsible & not fair.
