Virginia home to the largest Bolivian population in the U.S.

From sharing their language on TikTok to their cuisine in restaurants, Bolivians are keeping their culture alive in Virginia. NBC News' Marissa Parra visits "Arlingtonbamba" the place roughly 60,00 Bolivians call home.

Fun fact: "bamba" means "plains" in quechua. This means that "Arlingtonbamba" means "Arlington Plains" as the terrain is mostly flat and fit for growing crops. Quechua culture much like the english/american mixes two already existing words to describe certain things or terrains (e.g. Side + Walk = Sidewalk).

It already seemed big when I was a little boy in 2001. It must be booming now. Back then, it was easier to find Mexican or Salvadorean food (which I got used to!), but Wist'upiku was already there and we were already celebrating Urkupiña.
I'm just glad that no matter all our vices, Bolivians still find time to work hard and thrive anywhere.

My granda volunteered to fight during World War II. My grandfather told my father and his three sons "If you want to make something of yourself go to America." My father became a Navy SEAL, my uncle became a nuclear engineer, my other uncle still works with the US Navy nuclear submarines. I am so grateful that my father came to this country to give me a better life. I joined the US Army at 17/yr to earn my rights, to earn my freedom. I'M THE AMERICAN DREAM.
