We Built a Bass with TEMU Parts

- Today we attempt to build a bass from scratch only using parts from TEMU. And the big kicker is that we are going to try and do it all in one day. This bass build was probably one of the most fun and stressful ones we've done, because of the final result.

Everyone should get parts from Temu, so cheap! Bass parts : $136 only, equipment you need to make it: $90654 dollars...😂
THAT SO RIGHT! CAN'T MAKE IT WITH OUT MACHINERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tbh you absolutely can make it without the machines if you're super handy and don't need to do it fast
not equipment, everything can be manual, but to find someone who will actually spend time to make it work thats the expensive part.
@@Diademnever that too

Travis Dykes Signature Model 1. 🔥
Actually looks good and sounds pretty decent. Justin and his Dad both are killer guitar players.
Pretty sure Temu steals your information and sells it
What website doesn't?
I stopped at 17:48 and I'm amazed how precisely is the bridge installed, according to strings setup. Very original concept.
Not going to lie. I’d play that. It’s a creative build. But, Travis can make anything sound good.
Looks and sounds great. I would be proud to own that. Love the video. Justin did a great job!
probably smells good too. like a fireplace lol
Glad I ran across this channel. I loved the content and subscribed... that was cool!
Man that bass is pretty dope!!!!!!!!! The burnt coloring is fire, literally!!!!!!!
travis, these types of videos are gonna skyrocket this channel. just give it time. you're on to somethin!! Super entertaining!
Loving the new setup man!
We need more videos like this!!!
Looks BEAUTIFUL
Yep, sounds great
I really like the burnt finish on this, but that pickguard can return to fires of hell from which it was cast.
Best part is the Lava pick guard.🔥🎸
I like how you went more eccentric with the pic guard! Great video.
Justin and his father are amazing at what they do, I think burning it was the best idea! It looks great! And $10 pickups?? Pretty cool for a neat project
how did you make it to where the finish doesnt rub off like on you close and stuff? im interested in doing this to my guitar
When he said we're going to burn it I didn't think it was going to be well done! 😋 I was thinking a lighter burn to enhance the grain but that wood is obviously too soft for that method...looks cool though
man it sounded great
The bass doesn't sound bad especially the P(Front) pickup. By the way your new studio is fire.🔥🔥
Great job love the sound I would love to own the bass one of kind
that turned out incredibly nice. I love the burnt wood look.
My father's father used to take a torch and clear varnish his hand made furniture, not well received, back then .... but now ....
men, this neck pickup sounds awsome !
Keep it up guys. You will one day have you own bass company
That’s a cool looking bass and it sounds great. New sub btw…
🎸🤓👍
I'd watch this video just for the excellent bass playing at the end.
Not that I would ever by from Temu, but that burnt idea looks amazing on that guitar. Greatest on the fly idea ever honestly.
The carcoald finish is sick🔥
Its PJ ! 10/10
Can i ask you something i been playing bass for few moments and i was thinking on getting a high price bass should i get a 5 string bass or stay on 4 strings?
6
Is there music you enjoy and think you would like to be able to play that uses a 5? Then get a 5. Otherwise being happy with a 4 is perfectly ok!
I bought a "kit" from some guy from Craigs list! It is a FENDER Body, Neck, Hardware, everything Fender! Got it all together!! Took me WAY More than a Day!!!
By The Way, I just bought the Squire Paranormal Rascall Bass! Love it so far!
The bass actually sounded very good at your studio.
The body is made of Candlenut (Aleurites Moluccanus). I know that because it looks exactly the same as the first body I bought from chinese seller.
It was extremely soft and very hard to work (because it was too easy to damage). With time, patience and work I managed to make a good guitar out of it.
The nice thing about these is that once finished, it looks great and naturally age very fast.
Funny thing is that the chinese neck I bought at the same time was a extremely hard maple. Stronger than a gibson haha. My LP fell a lot of time on the head without a single damage.
Next step would be a nice PU coating.
Ah yes small children hands have touched those parts from Temu lol
wood looks like empress
Idk why but i thought the thumbnail was him pouring eggs over his bass
You should have bought the pick ups from temu too
Why the time constraints? Travis you can make a Fisher-Price toy sound great.
I actually thought you were going to burn the pickgaurd when he said it was going to clash.
Temu is a really nasty company, you should avoid taking sponsorships from them in the future, its a bad look with how well known their shiftiness is
Bass sounds weird when slapping
But it looks cool
Thats probablly more due to the P pickup instead of a J neck pickup
I tried to watch this. The TEMU portion was not the issue! The builder whining about not being able to just use the computer and CNC right off then all the way through to me quitting watching, the unintelligent comments that show his lack of knowledge of "Hardwood" and "Softwood" as Balsa is a Hardwood not to mention that a simple sand and smell test will tell you if it is pine. The overwhelming and pushed feeling of why am I making this video got too great at the half way mark. I don't know the channel but this is the presented video to get to know two apparent inept builders (if the one guy is a builder) on a hate filled "just why even bother" build made me never want to even try another vid or try to get to know these guys. I wish the channel good luck and hope this was a really bad example of their work suggested by CZcams.
😂😂 I never said I was a master builder or anything. I just started messing around building some guitars a couple years ago for fun. So I definitely don’t have all the knowledge in the world about wood like you do good sir lol. All I know is this wood was much softer than what I usually mess with. But also, get this…it doesn’t matter. It’s a cheap inexpensive bass made with TEMU parts lol. The channel is just not for you, I’m glad you got that figured out early on so you won’t waste anymore of your time. 👍🏼
@@neoguitarconcepts20 The entire issue was the attitude. Fine that a guitar builder does not know wood. You keep to the traditional woods you can't go wrong. However no matter what you are using or where the parts come from the "Attitude" displayed was the issue. I noticed that you did not address it in your response. Wood types is easy to learn. Hell their are only two Hard, Broad Leaf and Soft, Needle leaf. Species is much harder and I did not bring that up at all. but again it was the attitude that the ignorant statement was said in being the main issue. Nice job trying to shift the issue to something that was stupid but not the main problem your attitude which you had no response to.
@@MrAaroncissell I didn’t try to shift the issue. You literally insulted my knowledge for me not knowing my woods lol so I was addressing that. And then in this response you said it’s “fine if a guitar builder doesn’t know woods.” So which is it? Insult me for my lack of knowledge or is it ok that I have a lack of knowledge? I’m going to need you to be more consistent with your jabs and critiques.
I will admit looking back at the video that my attitude in the video is more along the lines of “I don’t think we can do this.” It was a lot to get done in one day and as I previously said, I’m not a professional. I just do this for fun so I was not optimistic that we could get the build done in one day. I’ll keep the attitude thing in mind for future videos. 👍🏼
@@neoguitarconcepts20 Thank you for the second paragraph. That was the main issue. I appreciate the retrospect.
He didn't have to do the cutout for the J pickup on the CNC right? Or has he never used a handheld router with a follower bit? Mark out centerline, put on template, route away, literally 5min job.
I have a whole stack of templates for neck pockets, pickups etc. You make one if you need one, and hang on to it.
Obviously I know I could do that…but I don’t own a handheld router. AND adding a pickup was a last minute idea we had so we didn’t have a template to put down on the centerline my guy. So without a template I just measured the pickup, designed it in the software with a bit of an offset, got the bass put on the CNC and made sure it was straight and boom…pickup hole was cut out. Sure it took longer than 5 minutes but we didn’t have the alternative. I used the CNC for the pickguard too cause we didn’t know if a random pickguard from TEMU would fit and line up with the neck pocket, etc. So we thought it would be easier to just design and cut our own pickguard out.
@@neoguitarconcepts20 I'd say get a handheld router, doing repairs and mods for people is a great (and quick!) way to bolster your revenue if you are looking to grow your business. IMHO, there probably are a lot more people looking to change the sound of their guitar by changing pickups, than there are people ready to buy a fully custom instrument.
@@jarnoverhoeven3118 you are probably right about that. I’m sure there’s more people wanting customization and work done on their instruments rather than buy new instruments. All I’ve ever done is build instruments from scratch. I’ve never done this kind of stuff to existing instruments. The few videos I’ve done with Travis are the only times I’ve ever messed with bodies and necks already made. But I’ll look into getting a handheld router. No doubt it would be useful in the shop.
Body = Balsa?
Light weight and crispy…..sounds like basswood. But basswood is usually a bit uglier in colour
@basstor1 Definitely looks like Paulownia (Empress) which I'm very familiar with. Extremely light and soft and not a great choice for basses with their added amount of string tension.
Yep, agreed@@EnJoony
This guy better hope he never meets wes watson 😂
It sounds like a bass.....check out stings bass sound on police records ,,,it's terrible ..sounds like a blown speaker but works with the band .
Pine body ?
Most likely sycamore
😂😂
definitely needs better pickups
When your pickguard is the third most expensive part of your bass you know it is da bomb!
you say "we" but he's doing all the work
I really wonder what is the point of selling trash tier instrument parts? In order to make an instrument you need a workshop, professional equipment and skills, as seen in this video. And no luthier will ever buy shit off Temu.
Btw, how much post processing did you do to the recorded bass lines?
You absolutely didn't need any CNC machine for this job. I don't understand that chapter, at all.
Actually I did. I build guitars for fun. I actually own no hand routers and we didn’t have a template for the pickguard material or the J pickup….you just expect me to whittle that out with a chisel? lol. But in all seriousness, all I use is the CNC for my normal builds so that’s all I had that could cut the shapes we wanted. So sue me I guess 🤷🏼♂️ I think it turned out pretty nice even with the use of a CNC.
yo can I have it
Wow , underwhelming video . Won't be subscriber but may check out another video sometime. You "forgot to film" stuff , how completely Unprofessional. You also didn't build a Bassin one day , you assembled one and did a couple minor mods.
Bass is way better than guitar.
Make no sense messing up an already built bass just for a neck
lol bro if you aren't in a good shape, maybe it's not a good idea to wear slim fit shirts.
3:33
Don't you like the accentuation of his breasts?
not worth it at all, sound really hollow.
Too much talking
Looks really good to me, solid call on the heat treat! I might try that at home honestly. Are you going to be giving that bass away? 👀👀 @TravisDykes
