"The man is about to play The talkbox for you, the funk has begun.
Can't you smell it? Oh if you inhale it you will, the funktipus has entered the pool, it's gonna get funky y'all, it's Zapp, and they can make you dance"
Early 80’s funk at it’s best. Roger Troutman is an underrated legend.
Most people don't know he did California love
He did twisted by tech n9ne as well. Roger was a funk legend. R.I.P. Roger Troutman. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
He is only underrated by people born after 1995. Everyone else know their impact.
@@alphaomega8373 Facts!
AMEN. Been a fan since hearing when I was a teen "More Bounce to the Bounce" in August 1980.
R.I.P Roger Troutman. He left us with an entire rose gallery of classics to enjoy for the ages, including this one right here. Just a 22 year old man listening to some real music.
same here bro
Good taste.... Well done....
Thank You, this is the music I was raised up on. Keep the groove!

and Fuck Larry Troutman that murdering asshole. No one should honor someone who blows his own brains out after killing his own brother.
@@roderickmiles5889 you must mean the south homie. Much love to our Midwest family that took it to another level.
This guy played so many instruments, like Patrice Rushen. I think he was a genius because his ideas were so far ahead of their time. Back then people were truly multi-talented...and intelligent and well spoken. In addition to those qualities, Roger was very witty. This album was one of the most memorable of the latter half of 1983. I left the country for about a month and when I returned in late August, I first heard this song as I was entering my home on an old early 60s hi-fi wall radio. I can still remember that as if it was yesterday. I was still listening to Dancefloor since it had been released, but this was like one step above that song. Then I heard Heartbreaker and other songs on this album. It was like eating one of the tastiest desserts you've ever had in your life. This is part of some of the greatest times in my life.

Roger Troutman - you cannot kill greatness, these tunes will live forever.
I was fortunate enough to see them perform in the early 80's in Oklahoma. It was a fantastic concert! The crowd went crazy! I was in my early twenties and it was incredible! I love them. RIP Roger. God bless you always. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A sad loss of 2 talented brothers. The music lives on.
Same with MJ and Prince.
Ya
That’s what greed will do to you
Man I am so happy that I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Every year Zapp/Roger gave us a hit or two for the summer. Real music right here.
ME TOO!!!!
Baby, that intro 🎶🎼🎧🎵🎺🎹🎸, you know it's time to get to the dance floor! After all these years, Roger you're still making us dance! RIP
I'm a 70's baby grew up in the 80's and from Ohio we gave the world funk music from heatwave to zapp the ojays to bootsie Collins ❤
Same from Jackson Michigan and you know family all over the Midwest. We were born into it whether we liked it or not. Funkateer for life.
Damn thats crazy seeing actual footage of the Troutman Sound Labs building, It's gone now and its a memorial park for Roger there now, And a barbershop! Dayton, Ohio Funk Capital!
AND YOU KNOW THIS.......MAAANNNN!
I'm there now!!! Wondered if that was Dayton!! Parts of it look like Beirut!! It's a damn shame and 5 minutes away are the mansions of Oakwood!!
That's why i love Roger, you see.
He is both classic and elegant, but he has the power of making everyone dance and throw down. I love his tuxedo with diamonds on, how Zapp is so tight but so loose at the same time
I feel so fortunate to have seen Roger with Zapp in the early 80's. He opened for Midnight Starr and The Gap Band about 1984. He entered the arena from the back, being carried on a chair lit up with lights and he wore a cape and a crown as well. A great entertainer and showman. Everyone loved him!! Come to think of it, when I recently saw Charlie Wilson, he wore a hat and jacket full of lights while he sang tribute songs of Roger.'s. Very nostalgic to say the least. ♥🥲 ♥
Roger will live on with his music and those he influenced R.I.P. Bro🌺

I was at Zapp park today. The building in the video was the troutman recording studio but it was torn down in 2004. Now Zapp park is there with a wonderful tribute to him. Tradgic end but the music sounds and samples live on everwhere. The list of hip hop artists that sampled or were influenced by his sound is endless. Truly one of a kind. Gone too soon.
R.I.P Dad, thank u for always playing all these classics in your Lowriders!! ❤
10/16/21 😔💔
Nothing beats old school music. It's timeless. This jam right here is proof.
Went to my first concert at the Roxy in Los Angeles to see Zapp (late 80’s). The band was on stage doing their thing. While all eyes were on the stage, Roger comes out walking across the tables (mine included) making quite an entrance. Damn! They put in a show.., but Roger was a true showman for real!!! R.I.P. Roger

Roger Troutman and Zapp are the soundtrack to my childhood. Got me through the good and bad times. God bless you brother. Gone but definitely not forgotten. And we're still dancing by the way! RIP Roger Troutman ❤
There sound was way ahead of its time the mix is still incredible
For 1983.. hell for any year this mix is so crisp and clear like CD quality! You gotta listen to the music edits he did on 1984’s In The Mix. Sick!
Water in my eyes seeing this dude....Damn! Huge huge loss. R.I.P😔

Roger was a genius. Thanks for making funk music so compelling that even white guys like myself can dig it. You are missed!
That's the beauty of music is universal
The bridge(2:09) makes it for me; its like a release from this relentlessly funky dance groove. Make you...DANCE!!! Respect and RIP to Roger Troutman: Multi-instrumentalist par excellence, bandleader, songwriter, record-producer, innovator, philanthropist, entrepreneur, artistic visionary, and Master of the Talkbox. You are sorely missed, thank you for the music.
Absolutely love this comment. My exact thought!!
Funk Is Forever, RIP Mr Troutman
Back in 1991 my brother went away for a little while and I took possession of his stuff for safekeeping, including a Zapp and Roger greatest hits tape. By the time he came back I must have scotch taped that tape back together at least ten times from playing it so much. Roger passed on my 15th birthday! Truly unsung. RIP and thanks for all the music.
Brings back memories! Meeting the Zapp Band, along with Lakeside! One of the highlights of my life.
Old school rappers sampling Roger and Zapp brought me here. Now I'm here sampling their timeless music myself🎧🎶💣 🔥
They're having so much fun in this video. I need to hop in the wayback machine and join them.
I got to see Zapp/Roger in concert. He was so damn multi talented. Vocals, keys, guitar, harmonica, swag.
Hell yeah,....That was one of my many favorite jams by Roger and Zapp!

Rodger playing this in Heaven with all the greats. Making them Angels dance.
This ain't autotune. It's a voice box. A sound effect used by real talent in the 80s. Not to be confused for using autotune to cover up for lack of talent in the 2020s

They gave a lot back to the Dayton community also. They bought houses and rented them out to people at discount to help them out. This studio is no longer there- but there is a little park honoring Roger.
