  • Stroke affects children as well as adults. A pediatric neurologist explains signs and symptoms of pediatric stroke and demonstrates an exam. For more: www.chop.edu/st...
Rebecca Ichord, MD, director of the Pediatric Stroke Program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, reviews signs and symptoms of pediatric stroke and demonstrates a clinical exam with a child who has experienced stroke.
Signs can include weakness or numbness; trouble walking, speaking or understanding simple directions; severe headaches; loss of vision or double vision; and severe dizziness. Just as when an adult experiences stroke symptoms, children should get medical help immediately.

there was a girl at my school who had a stroke giving her severe loss of movement and control on one side when she was 8. she wore an ankle brace which stopped foot drop and barely used her affected arm, mostly having it tucked into her pocket or held against her side. when it came to sports instead of sitting out because of her problem she excelled and she was the fastest swimmer and fastest runner in her grade.
