A320 Neo and A321 Neo are great options. the A321 is practically a 787 and it could handle long routes of up to 11 hours so the long route of NBO to CDG and more could be handled with the A321 and not the costly 787. That being said this is an interesting conversation for Kenya Airways but they will definitely grow

Why can’t KQ invest in more cargo planes? JKIA handles the largest air cargo traffic in Africa but we’re leaving a lot of money on the table coz of the limited cargo planes we have!

That’s exactly the problem that was pointed out when the Embraers were being acquired. The belly of the 737 has exceptional cargo capacity, which is perfect for connecting flights that traditionally have lots of baggage (China route etc). With a 737 fleet a lot of that cargo wouldn’t be left in need of cargo planes. The problem has always been the Embraers (and similar regionals) capacity for baggage and cargo - great for Europe/North America where people travel light and have good postal systems but terrible for African routes where people travel heavy.

I wonder if the political class in the country also plays a factor in acquiring new aircrafts in the airline given some own some fleet in the national airline?

KQ needs a couple of 787-9s and 737-9 or A321 neos

The Bombardier CS300 would be the ideal aircraft to replace the E195 as an upgrade to available seat capacity. The CS300 also outperforms the MAX7 based on weights (Empty, Zero Fuel, MTOW), runway roll performance, flight management protocol, yield management (Pax & Payload). The MAX8 Baseline is a bit of an overkill, and so is the 32N unless KQ intends to increase available seat capacity by upgrading to the 789 on the higher end to accommodate the increased capacity from the E190-B73M or 32N step change. The CS300 improved weights translate to increased efficiency in SFC, Emmisions and economic performance, the perfect platform towards gearing for KQs longterm sustainability goals and NetZero commitments. That said, the aircraft order will go to whichever manufacturer is willing to give the best financial concession to KQ and the availability of delivery slots....Only time Will tell. #A220

If you are going to replace it with the A220 then it is better to buy an E195-E2🙄

@LucasSanRFS The E190-E2 weights are all wrong for KQ to acquire the platform as an upgrade, hence the reason why I believe they eliminated the aircraft in their RFP. I have done my due diligence on all the airframes involved but I would be doing you a disservice to regurgitate the obvious just to come across as clever so I kindly ask you to look at the CS300 vs E19-E2 specifications from both manufacturers and make a hypothetical objective assessment. After all, aircraft performance and suitability is just about numbers, the rest is aesthetics. Cheers

Of late, Boeing is going through a lot challenges. Go to Airbus to upgrade your fleet. That is personal opinion.

Airlines are risky investments, very capital intensive and highly competitive. Aeroplanes are very hard to maintain and even service.

In the long term - Kenya Airways will be wise to consider the Comac C919 narrow-body airliner developed by Chinese aircraft manufacturer Comac...Airbus and Boeing issues are not going to be resolved soon !!!

The narrow body planes almost sunk the airline, it has been a costly and painful lesson for them.

Kenya airways need A320Xlr...but with a meagre $3.9mil net earnings?..that will be a tall order
