Squid Fishing for Red Monsters

- I went out fishing for about an hour and a half today. Landed a monster bigfin reef squid on the first drop of the day. I'm guessing it's 3kg. It was caught on a Yamashita Egi Oh Live jig in 30 meters of water off of Yomitan in Okinawa Japan. I ended up also catching another squid less than 10 feet under the boat after it chased my Nomad Vertrex Max Vibe (fish) lure. I decided to bring my squid lures up from the bottom to see if he would hit it and sure enough, he did. This was the most aggressive squid that I've seen this year.

Thumping squids how deep is the water your fishing ? I've caught them In 60m using a similar technique 😳 a few years back
This is in 30-35 meters of water. But it's not uncommon for us to fish 100m and up for them.

Hello sir , I’m from Hong Kong and often visit Okinawa .
In July I will go again with my family and planning to have some boat fishing day trip.
Im interesting in trying casting for GT or squid egi ; may I ask in July, which one is good season? Thankyou 😊
July might be a little late for squid. The season of great activity is already slowing down. I managed a nice 2kg squid yesterday though. You can catch them year round but might not be the best time when you are here. GT might be better. If you can find "Fishing Boat K-701" on facebook, you can get with that captain. He's really good at squid and GT so you can do either with him or do both on the same trip. Let me know if you need any help finding him (My GT vide was on his boat). I don't have FB at the moment but I'll have it by the end of June so I can send a link if you need it.

Water temperature? Water depth?

I didn't record the water temp but it was likely near 19-21C Water depth was 30m +/- 3m.

I gave it to the lady that does my fish prints so she and her family could enjoy it. I had to work the following two days and wouldn't have time to prepare it or have dinner with the family so someone else got to have it.

Sì, 3,8 kg. Prendono più di 5 kg qui a Okinawa. 4 kg è considerato molto grande. 3+ Kg è un "mostro rosso".

@@gaijinfishing yes i know i just wanted to say that normal squid from mediterraneam sea can grow up to 5kg someone in the comments said maximum 2 2.2kg
