Took me 5-10 minutes to open a personal account. An hour later the account was confirmed. Just waiting for the debit card to arrive in the post and my salary, Direct Debits, Standing Orders and regular card payments to be transferred from my existing provider. Impressed so far.

I have far too many personal bank accounts, for the high street banks I have TSB and Santander, I had the TSB for the high interest rate (was 5%, then 3%, then 1.5% and now sod all) and Santander because their cash machines allow you to deposit cash which is handy because everywhere is usually closed by the time I get finished.
For the challenger banks I have Monzo and Revolut, I use the Revolut card just for online payments to places like AliExpress because I keep the card inactive until I use it and I use Monzo as my main spending account because I love the colour of the card! 😂
And for the business, we just use Tide!

Thanks for this. I was looking for a simple account for my side hustled but I am seriously thinking of making one my main account. You are right I have not used a cheque book in years or even gone into a branch for that matter

Be very carefull with the feature of uploading receipts. I have been uploading all receipts for the past year and a half and not storing them phisically (big mistake) as I thought that they are safely stored and uploaded in my bank account. After I've had my phone repaired and reseted yo factory settings I downloaded the starling app again and when I went to check the some receipts they all been gone !!! I am going to get into big troubles for this.

So glad these banks are comming along. I use N26 as I am in Holland. The last high street bank account I tried to open was with HSBC. I had around 180k in other banks but after filling in forms and being asked questions in their branch they declined to let me open an acount!!! The reason, I was temporarily not in employment. I wouldn not open an acount with them now if they paid me.

The spending analytics can be improved for the mobile app. I usually get a discrepancy between the categories and merchant tabs whenever I get refunds. I have raised this many times with Starling Customer Services.

Just joined Starling bank for my self employment and so far i love how easy it is to use.
All it needs now is ability to take payment from another phone or card 😜
    Thanks for this video.

After looking at a few banks to replace my Lloyds business account I chose Starling. However when I applied they weren't accepting applications from sole traders, I phoned them and the person I spoke to said to try again in 2 weeks, I did and was accepted. I think she said it was due to demand.
So if anyone else encounters this, just wait a while and re-apply.

Hi Mark, I've recently set up as a sole trader. On my account details with the sort code and account number it comes up with my name (Aiden) and not the businesses name. Is this normal or have a done something wrong in the setting up process?
      Thanks :)

A friend of mine has a Starling account, they told me Starling froze the account for nearly 3 days because of a £60 payment they were 'looking into'. They couldn't transfer, withdraw or access the funds in their account and customer services/complaints could not have cared less! They are a faceless organisation that know you can't do a f'ing thing as they ignore you by shoving you in a long queue (45 mins average) only to get zero help and even less hope of finding out what's going on, let alone unfreezing your cashpoint card. Be WARNED people, what would you do if your bank suddenly and without warning suspended all activity on your bank account? I think what added insult to injury was after almost 3 whole days with no access to your money, no explanation or compassion let alone compensation was forthcoming! My friend told me they will never ever moan about queuing in a bank in order to get to the cashier again, needless to say they bank 'normally' now with a high st bank, after all wouldn't you!

... my motivation for this post?
I hope to conscious the pricks, (whoops sorry) , prick the conscious of any Starling Bank employee to get in touch with me and I'll gladly pass on my friends details with a view to helping them out, sometimes people that aren't well need help from their friends.

Exactly , I’ve been with them for a year all I did was buy stuff and receive payments like u do with any bank , they randomly emailed me to take out all my funds of my accounts as they dont want to provide me banking facilities anymore , I begged them to tell me what I did wrong or if I could show any paper evidence if they are curious about a payment or receiving a payment but all they said is they can’t talk to me about it and the decision is final

How do you access bank statements and presumably you have to print them out? You can do your accounts with out paper bank statements.

Take it that there is no transfer service from current account to Starling so you would need to contact everyone yourself to switch?

Hello there, great channel first of all... i have a question, i'm going soon to open a Business account and i was thinking about doing it with Starling, but i actually need to be a Euro business account because i'm going to receive payment mostly from Euro and i don't want to lose money on the change for every transaction. So, my question is, if when i open a Business account i can have both of them? GBP And EURO .... i mean, i know that i can already open a Euro account with starling but it's not for Business. Thanks for your help. YOur videos are great, cheers.

Does the current account and business account have the same transfer rate from GBP to USD? I'm using the current account at the moment because I can see the transfer rate is good, but I use it for business purposes so if i knew it has the same transfer rates i would use the business account. (Im avoiding the US business account because 1. it's only for limited companies, im a sole trader and 2. it's £5/month so meh)

Forget Starling if you want to use Apple Wallet. The Starling cards are completely hit and miss as to whether they will be added. Using iPhone 11 and it seems. Some can get theirs added and some can’t. The really unhelpful aspect is just how bad customer service is. Their standard response is that you can use your card (no s**t Sherlock!) but it is some strange regulation that prevents it from happening. This regulation is something that numerous CS agents can’t explain, even though they freely admit that some cards can be added to iPhone 11s and some won’t. The app is ok, but if you want customer service that actually wants to solve issues, then use another bank.

@@SajiRai With my other bank, yes. Success in using it with Starling is totally arbitrary which Starling themselves are unable to explain.

Totally disagree, several payment issues regarding trading name transfers, the customer has to put in your personal name to get a match which doesn’t look professional. Also the slightest addition to cheques such as ‘services’ or what you do, REJECTED! They’ve got all our passport and driving licence details, so they know who we are! Rejected rejected rejected, I’d rather be getting paid and concentrating on my business. Goodbye.

From what I have seen so far, the only way to open an account is by using a phone app which does not sound like a very smart idea for security reasons. You are expected to provide passwords and personal info from a phone which is completely insane and anyone with any sense should stay well clear of this.
