wow! thanks a lot beatrix !
Thank you so much for this.
Great video. Would this suit Flamenco playing?
I've been looking for a video like this for so long, thank you so much. Breaking nails is a big problem for me so gonna give it a try
Glad you say that! I always had trouble with my nails so I only use this solution now
Cool! Thanks!
yep, me too ......I use coffee filters to lengthen and dryer sheets for strength. . .crazy glue or the stuff you are using too
🤠👍 love my gell nails, excellent for nylon and steel! Cheers, nice to see your method 🙏
thanks
omg this looks kind of cool ( i am victim of a condition called "i cut my nails my talent vanish" so this might actually be very helpfull)
I would suggested trying out filling in the back of the nail, it provides a very solid pick surface.
Hello .. from where to buy the complete kit?
May need to do this. I have very weak nails. They break pretty easy so I’ve learned to play with them pretty short.
give it a try, I've been doing this for 10 years and it works perfectly for me. It takes me an hour every 6-8 weeks so it's not a big sacrifice
do you play with your pinky? (fourth finger)
Hello Beatrix, thanks for the video. You don't use any topcoat, right?
Got my nails done this morning as an experiment.
What about nail shape?
Hi Beatrix..great vid...please what is the brand of gel... I am looking for a new brand?
thank you
Beatrix, thank you for this demo. As a young man, I tried to build my nails with layers of tissue and shellac, like the flemencos. That took a lot of time, so I gave up after a few months. My question is, how often do you have to repeat this Process? How durable are they?
Hi Doug! For me it lasts for like 6 weeks and then I redo it because it gets ugly not because it's not good anymore, but when I started doing it before I learnt the little tricks it lasted only for like 2 weeks. As you get better in it and the better materials you use, the longer it lasts. I don't advice you to keep it longer than 6 weeks because when it grow halfway down, it gets a little risky and you can break it easily. So I redo it ever, 4-6 weeks now.
For a long time ago I had also this kind of fake gel nails, because I had problems with my nails caused by a sickness.. But fortunately only for a short period of time, and it was difficult to get rid of it.. Anyway, there was a way to solve this particular problem for my whole life: I decided to play the lute! 😅😂😂😂 (sorry for the anti-advert... 😅❤️😘😘)
Haha good one, no worries, we are here to find our place in this big mess, I'm glad it worked out well for you!
Hi Beatrix well I have tried the gel nails pretty good for my first attempt. I do have a question though
“Does the thickness affect the tone”? Thanks again for the video, I have enough supplies to last me awhile LOL
Take care Harry
Hi Harry, sorry I missed your comment, I’m not the best at this CZcams thing just yet😅 the thickness affects the tone yes, over time with practice you’ll find the best for you. I try to make it fairly thin but if it’s just one thin layer it breaks easily so I have to find a good balance. Hope it worked out for you in the past few weeks!
Hello Beatrix i have one question, i put gel nails for guitar but they are harder than my real nail so will this be a problem to produce nice tone on classical guitar or i need to pit softer gel nail for playing?
Well it depends… it’ll be a bit more thick for sure but you need to experiment with the least amount of gel. It takes time to find how much your nails need. Aaaand about the material: there are more flexible and stronger gels, the one I use in this video is a pretty good compromise, I highly recommend it. I tried many different brands over the years and I think it’s very person. Once you start doing your own nails, the first few tries might not be good or it can be even terrible 😅😅 but the more you practice and experiment the more you’ll know what your nails and technique needs 😁
Hi! Aren't there artificial nails to glue or to fix over the real nails? I think I saw Bonnie Raitt playing with these kind of false nails. I seemed it worked well.
You're looking for what are called nail tips. I think the sound is not as nice, as they're not made of the same polymer at all.
I´ve had this done once in a nail salon and they had huge ventilation units above their stations. I hope you have a window open at least...
You are totally right, the used chemicals are toxic, thanks for pointing this out to everyone!!
Did you start using artificial nails because they kept breaking? Just curious why you went down the artificial nails route in the beginning. Thanks!
Yes my nails are super weak and I tried many supplements to make them stronger but nothing really worked
I find that building the nail up in several thinner layers doesn't get as hot under the light. A very thick nail heats up quite a bit when curing and it hurts!
oh that's interesting, I also build it layers by layers but I didn't noticce that. Next time I'll check haha :D
coming here after watching matteo mancuso playing.
Does this damage you're real nail?
It does, but the nail growing later will be healthy again, so it only damages the nail that you put it on. No long term negative effects as far as Inoticed :)
Fake nails sound just too plastic sounding and metallic for my taste!. Nothing can replicate a warm and round natural sound coming from your own nails, the biological material the nail is made off can not be replicated as yet!.Reason for not testing the sound from the fake nail on each string vs regular nails on this video!
For me, if I make them shorter and thinner, they sound just fine :) Check out my music videos on my channel, maybe you also gonna like the tone
