Diamond Baby I love how you not only showed a childish mindset with your hostility, but stupidity as well. Let me educate you on why It was called Boriken, it’s because it was named by the indigenous taínos which in English means “Land of the valiant lord”. The name came from the Taino-Arawak people, The terms “Boricua” and “Borinqueño” derive from the words “Boriken” and “Borinquen”respectively. And are commonly used to identify someone who is or has Puerto Rican descent. There are still Puerto Rican’s today who call our lovely land “Boriken” today, please educate yourself next time your hostility decides to overpower your ego.

Ada García was my teacher and she still is the director of Bellos Atardeceres Ballet. I love our African roots. Those drums, we can feel them in the heart.
Siempre lo he dicho!

I was three weeks old when my parents moved to Puerto Rico. Learned to swim as an infant in a tide pool at Crash Boat Beach before I could walk. I actually remember, at 3 years old, the beautiful flowers on the trees and the many people who stopped walking to pinch my chubby pink cheeks. Que lindo, they said. I'm 66 years old now and I still long to splash in the ocean tide pools of Puerto Rico's Crash Boat Beach! It is like a sense or body memory. Wonder what its like now. Unfortunately, I now live in dry, hot, relentless cactus Arizona. Hate it, but love mi familia!
That was amazing! The survival of African Culture through thick and thin! I now understand that you cant kill the spirit and the culture is in the spirit. Or other words, 'You can take the African out of Africa, but you cannot take the African out of him! Brilliant, enjoyed, especially when the young girl joins, PURE AFRICAN! Overjoyed!
I was born and raised in that beautiful Island of Puerto Rico. As a matter of fact, my family lived in San Isidro, Canovanas, P.R., until I was about 8 years old. So I am very familiar with Loiza, Aldea, and their traditions. Here in the United States, they talked about African- Americans, but we in Puerto Rico, have the Real African-Americans, with all the traditions they brought from their Mother Land Africa, to the New World. We are a real Melting Pot. We are, Puertorriqueños! Que Viva La Bomba, La Plena, y nuestra cultura Afro-Antillana! Que Viva Puerto Rico!!!🇵🇷
I'm East African and I have always been drawn to the afro Caribbean, afro latino culture. Maybe it's because I see a lot of similarities to my own culture, probably not as much as someone from west Africa would but I just see my people when I see you

+Imani Warren I'm just glad that my island treasures this and as a community we celebrate it. This stuff has to survive so long as we have our feet grounded on planet Earth. This is our legacy, we must keep our kids seeing these celebrations, and always see the beauty and strength in this. Our ancestors didn't have power in their situation, but they were never powerless. I'm sure the ISLANDS and the beauty of their surroundings also gave then strength, wild flowers, a little frog found no where else in the world, food, dance, foundational support as a community. They endured with pride and grace and weren't uninformed about who they are.

Punta is a Garifuna Music genre as well as cultural dance. It is as poetic folk art genre through which social commentary is frequently expressed. The dance represents sexual dialogue between male and female who attempt to outdo each other with unique stylized movements. It is characterized by the shaking of the hips and features an almost motionless upper torso in contrast to the constant movement of the hips, legs, and feet, creating the characteristic shaking of the buttocks found in many African-derived dances.

I was taught how to dance Bomba in school. It was part of the curriculum in my home town Rincón. We traveled all over the Island to dance in festivals. Ada García was my teacher and she still is the director of Bellos Atardeceres Ballet. I love our African roots. Those drums, we can feel them in the heart.
Excellent that it is part of the curriculum. Keep the tradition and pass it along. Long live a rich heritage.
@@mimziecollins1130 i just read this. Thank you! My kids will definitely dance bomba and plena.
Siempre lo he dicho!
Amelia Meraux Louisiana Creole? Nice.... you have the same mixture as Puerto Ricans and all Caribbean
Jerome Theseus Thanks Jerome! You're right except majority of us don't have Spaniard ancestry but very few do.
My dad is French Creole. And my mom is French Creole & Cubana. You'd be surprised at how much Spanish influences there are. Especially the food.
Jerome Theseus Oh yes, Spaniards have a lot of influence throughout the Caribbean and all over the west. You're so right about that. It doesn't have that much here in Louisiana though. French and West African are the main influences in Louisiana which is kind of sweet. I love French cuisine and the arrogance lol. That's a nice mix of your parents :).

So proud to see the African culture survived through out the Caribbean. Blacks from the U.S. especially the south don't seem to understand that black people exist in Spanish countries especially. Respect pa' mi gente bella, mi gente negra, viva los afro-Latinos
Cubapanablacc Yes it sure did!!! Alive and well!!! The US blacks have lost all of their African Roots. It also shows you that people who were slaves under Spain, had more freedom than in American. American slavery was the worst in history sick shit... I read in a article that Slaves under spain were allowed to get married as well.
Jerome Theseus yea it's sad and very true. What's even worse is they make fun of us afro Latinos even though we share the same ancestry
Yes, they are quick to say we don't like being black. Yet, our culture is heavily influenced by Africans. Cubapanablacc
We are proud people, it stems from the Taino side more than anything, the other two thirds of our culture simply influenced this style of music.

Now you made me cry with that beautiful memory !
Nothing like those memories!! It’s very spiritual. Remember you carry that feeling with you no matter, a sliver of paradise in your soul. Much love ♥️
That was amazing! The survival of African Culture through thick and thin! I now understand that you cant kill the spirit and the culture is in the spirit.

African culture survived worldwide ...we are beautiful when we celebrate who we are...
