  • Miss Moonshine's favorite part of her favorite Finnish city, Tampere.
Excuse mispelling in vdo. I forgot that there are 2 T's in Rajaportti Sauna, but only one due to KPT spelling rules of Finnish language when you write "Rajaporti Sauna" in Finnish and put the first/name in the genitive case, e.g. Rajaportin Sauna, theone t drops out because of the n ending.
Built in 1908 for the workers of Tampere in what is now a very ritzy area of the city, not unlike San Francisco in appearance (but better!). Tucked into the base of Pispala/Pynniki Ridge between 2 giant lakes connected by a river that runs through downtown Tampere, just a couple miles east. Totally wonderful walk from my AirBnB in Pynniki over the ridge, up and down staircases, over to the Rajaportti Sauna, where I met up with Tampere Sauna Blogger Tanja, on my first day in Tampere.
No lockers in the place, you can leave valuables with the front office. Naked single sex saunas both heated by the same oven. I did not see the oven and assume its wood or wood pellet burning.

I’ve certainly have learned a lot about Finland and saunas the last couple of weeks. I do wonder what kind of fish one might catch in the waters I view. 🐟

Most common catch is pearch, pike, pike-pearch and bream. lake trout, whitefish and vendace also.

Are saunas popular there because it is so chilly year round? I assume it is June and everyone is still wearing coats and long sleeves. Saunas are great for warming the bones when it is chilly out!!! 😮I remember golfing in early May in Canada and the course had a sauna. It was so cold and chilly out golfing we went into the sauna half way through our round to warm up and it was wonderful. Had Ms. Moonshine in her bikini been visiting it would have have been the most memorable round of golf ever!! :)

probably but norway and sweden and iceland are cold but do not have the same ubiquitous sauna culture

No, it's not "chilly year round". And people do like to wash themselves regularly, that's why saunas are so common.

@@tyttiMKLooked pretty "chilly" in June!! Saunas are great for the skin and open up the pores for cleansing. A good sweat is healthy!!!

yes, fairly monotone. but that’s as far as the likeness to indonesian goes! The grammar will murder you!
