    Definitely call it the "Eleanor Powell" because she deserves to be remembered in any way possible as one of the best tap dancers ever.

    Elinore Powell deserves to be remembered for the dance, in my humble opinion 😊.

    Believe I learned this as an "essence"
    Teacher also used "I like to tap, cause tap is great" to help remember the rhythm

    We are currently learning this step in class, we call it the shirley temple.
    Its tricky to remember to do opposite heel, but im getting there 😊

    • @tapfitfam
      @tapfitfam  Před 11 měsíci +3

      With practice it will become second nature. Enjoy the journey. As soon as you have the opposite heel down your teacher will switch it up and teach you a step with same heel. Lol this is the life of a tap dancer. I’m so excited for you. Thanks for the comment too.

      I Love it! Is there a name when it's done with the same heel? Or is it just an invention??

    My tap teacher called that step a Gene Kelly. It fits perfectly with the little melody he doo-dah-doot-doos at the beginning of "Singin' in the Rain."

    I was taught it as a "Lindy" (when done in a swung rhythm as in her first speed up) because it resembles a jazz Lindy (chassé rock step, chassé rock step) :)

    • @ashleyborromeo7796
      @ashleyborromeo7796 Před 7 měsíci

      Interesting. I have never heard this as a Lindy but I do a lindy with the same concepts just all on the balls of the feet and no heels. It’s a bouncy technique and a lot of fun for moving side to side. Thanks for the comment

    Wow, you're good! I want to tap, well dance in general. It looks difficult...but of course, with anything- practice makes perfect. I get my inspiration from watching Golden Age tap numbers like the Nicholas Brothers, 'Bojangles' Robinson, Eleanor Powell...I have gotten the majority of my intrest for tap is from my favourite dancing duo, "Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers". I may be bias in saying this, but nothing beats them when they two become one on the dance floor. They showed me it just isn't dance; it's a form of expression. I love music from the time too and I catch on to the rhythms quite easily. So maybe when I start to learn, that'll help me put my feet to the beat or toes to the test!😁

    • @tapfitfam
      @tapfitfam  Před 6 měsíci +1

      For sure that incredible duo has inspired many! I wrote a school report on them once in middle school! Beautiful and timeless!

      @tapfitfam  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Great question, These are Miller & Ben's Triple Threats! Amazing shoes and I've had these shoes for nearly 15 years now! So much music made in them :) However, if you're a beginner I would not recommend this shoe. Reason being its a lot of build up and hard to break in. I would recommend their Jazz Tap Master but even still there are cheaper really good shoes for beginners you can start with. (sorry I know that was more info than you asked for) But I LOVE these shoes and the men that make them!

  • @MichaelDJ68

    So seriously--what's the original name for that step? When I referred to it as "Shirley Temple" to my current tap teacher--who happens to be black--he says to me, "But who taught Shirley Temple? Bill Robinson."

    • @tapfitfam
      @tapfitfam  Před 11 měsíci

      As far as I know, the verdict is out on who originated the step. That's the reason a lot of people call it a Eleanor Powell though, to give credit to her as creator. I'm not 100% certain though and your teacher has a solid point.
