RSD Black Friday 2023: What people DIDN'T BUY (And one that I did)

  • Since everyone is showing what they bought for Record Store Day Black Friday 2023, I thought it would be interesting to show some albums that were left over that people passed over. One of them was the only record I actually got. Also, is the CD longbox making a comeback?

I have a custom on record store day. I walk into a record store and ask which record has been binned up in the bins the longest without selling, and then I buy it, and give it a loving home. Or at least a home. Last year it was The Starlight Vocal Band. Years before it was Jesse Crawford, Jesse Colin Young, Eddie Rabbit, Mink Deville, and Tennessee Ernie Ford. There was another artist likely trying to cash in on his success called Tennessee Anie Chevy. This year the homeless record in the bins the longest, that I gave a home to... was simply SRO by Herb Alpert... Do this at dog shelters also!

Fun idea for a video. I was glad to get the little feat too. I have the WFC in the collection but this concert they're having a good time and several extended jams. They probably had a few pints of the finest British ale. That'll loosen you up 😊. Love your videos. Greg

'Record store day" began in 2007 at a time when vinyl wasn't as trendy as it is now. In the past few years the RSD's have become cash cows for the record companies to release remastered albums which rarely match up to the originals. In other words, they feature total shite at high costs, I have gone to several and I usually look out for the used items the stores have been storing up for that day. It's usually a good haul for me on the used side.
I actually can't wait until the vinyl trend is finished and record stores can go back to more reasonable prices for used items.

I'd say most of these RSD-BF 2023 albums in the video are still available at one of the local stores in my area, too. Gil Evans is no exception and is surprising since jazz seems to run off the shelf here (and the store owner is into jazz). All four Tuff City albums, Czarface, Motley Crue, The "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood And Honey" and "Death Becomes Her" soundtracks, the Knack, the Monkees, C-BO, and a few others are still available.

I work until 9 AM on Fridays, and the store I shop at opened at 8, so I obviously missed out on the Olivia Rodrigo. Was fairly surprised that as being in Buffalo that I was able to get the Goo Goo Dolls record without having to wait was a plus. I got the lat copies of Studio One Kings, War - The World Is A Ghetto Box, and the Digital Underground album... it might have been a flop, but if you like Sex Packets, you should give Body-Hat Syndrome a listen... the songs aren't as well known, but after a disappointing second album, the third is nearly as good as the debut.

Must be the 7th or 8th year in a row I slept in. I find skipping out on this is better anyways. Not that I saw anything, or care. But our local store probably once again ordered way too many of everything again, and i bet by Christmas they will all be 25% off. Which is fine. But if you want to hold out longer. Or if you are looking for titles from the past 3 or 4 years. You can pretty much get them at cost, or below cost. It was just funny seeing $60 albums marked down to $20, and people still aint buying them. Kinda like, who was dropping, i think, $40 for that Motley Crue picture disc? Bet they still got a couple left, because they somehow managed to get 20 copies, and they just sat there for months and months. And the worst part. It was buy one, get one free all weekend. And i still didnt go. Old man me just dont really care about it anymore.

In the past, quality audio equipment was made to meet the demands of consumers who bought music on a certain format. The "cassette reviva;" has been going on for at least a decade yet I don't see any quality brand manufacturer - Sony, Pioneer, Technics, Nakamichi.... release anything. If you find a tape deck, it will be on Amazon. Made In China, the shittiest, cheapest quality piece of crap they can find and slap together. They seem like the type of people who would hate physical media because it's for "lame, gross, old people." And I don't mean to dump on anyone here who likes her, but her music just seems to be too shallow to be worth making the extra effort that physical media requires.
