    The jig looks great but I could of cut it out by hand quicker

      If you’re on a big site and every door has the same locks so you only need to set this up once, or even a hand full of times, then there is absolutely no way you’d be quicker.

      @@0000kris0000 he's fitting a bathroom lock, majority of homes built now will have one bathroom, 2 if your lucky, then reset the jig for a latch, to reset it for a sash or deadlock, granted alot of doors now are composite with a euro cylinder , then move to the next house and reset for the bathroom and so on,

    Am I right in thinking this only does the faceplate cuts and spindle/throughbolts?
    You still have to auger/bore out the mortise?

    Hi Ben, Can the jig handle rebated doors of different thicknesses of door and rebates?

    • @benweir8173
      @benweir8173  Před 3 lety

      Hi, the jig can handle door thicknesses off 34mm-60mm. I’m not sure about the rebated doors. I would have to look in to it, I think it’s possible though. Not sure if it’s been attempted yet.

    • @rw5111
      @rw5111 Před 3 lety

      Thanks Ben, would be very useful as I work mainly on rebated doors and the size of rebates vary between 11mm to 30mm.

    • @benweir8173
      @benweir8173  Před 3 lety

      @@rw5111 on thinking about the rebated locks, I take it that the backset dimension is from the leading part of the rebate. On that case I would set the depth on the leading part of the faceplate and run the router along that side only. Then I would readjust the depth for the back part of the faceplate then run along that side of the faceplate. The side holes would be taken out the same way. I’m trying to find a detailed drawing to support my theory, I don’t do rebated locks that often but maybe you could tell me if you think this method would work?

    • @rw5111
      @rw5111 Před 3 lety

      @@benweir8173 Yes, it may be a work around, I am aiming for a jig I can set to the thickness of the rebate and make the cut, hence why I am looking for the adjustability of different size rebates, it would be interesting to see a drawing or video of a mock-up rebate, thanks, Ray.

    Why do you do half the spacer on the face plate ?

    • @benweir8173
      @benweir8173  Před rokem

      Hi Jordan, when you set half the spacer that is the offset you need for the guide bush. So when you close the jig in on the full spacer at the bottom that will give you the correct offset all round and still lining up with your spindle height. If you prefer you could add half the spacer above and half the spacer below. You’ll end up with the same result. Hope this makes sense.

    • @jordanwade7754
      @jordanwade7754 Před rokem +1

      @@benweir8173 okay, so half spacer (2mm) at the top and then push face plate tight to the stopper and then add the 4mm spacer at the bottom ?
      Thanks

    • @benweir8173
      @benweir8173  Před rokem

      @@jordanwade7754 that’s right. So you’ll end up with the length of the faceplate + 4mm.

    Hi Ben, looks like a great jig! What cutter and bush would you use?

    • @benweir8173
      @benweir8173  Před 3 lety

      Hi mate, You use a 12mm cutter and a 16mm guide bush. You could also use a 12mm cutter with a 17mm guide bush. Just use a 5mm spacer instead of a 4mm spacer.
