Great tip about the spray paint and shackles
I have the smottybilt xrc. Had it for years, works great. Had the solenoid replaced once under warranty, no issues other than that. And I will agree, snatch block is a must for places around where I am, get buried quick.
Nice things to have and the explenations.
Cheers from Sweden
Great video, Thank you 👍
Nice list and explanation!
Good info as i am going to get a winch soon. Thank You!!
Warn Xeon 10 S, just got it, haven’t had to use it yet, but it is sweet. I’ll have to look into the wireless. Great suggestions.
I heard you say wind rock. Sweet I live in knox and take my 2003 rubicon tj up there all the time. Love royal blue also. Great video by the way 7 days go vols
Mile marker gator, best thing I ever bought for my jeep
I put a Warn VR EVO 10S on my ‘18 JLU RUBICON. I bought the winch kit from Quadratec that has a tree strap, snatch block, and tow strap. I also keep traction boards with me as another tool in case me or someone else needs help.
Warn Zeon 10S, Factor 55 Ultrahook, Gator Jaws/Bubba Rope soft shackles (in lieu of screw pin shackles most times) 7/8"'good for 32,000 pounds, 5/8" good for 74,000 pounds, WARN wireless remote, Factor 55 tree saver, AW Direct sells 3/4" screw pin shackles with WLL 14,000 pounds vs Crosby 9,500 pounds, two snatchblocks (so I can pull backwards from the front-mounted winch)
And, not a winch accessory, but a Bubba Rope kinetic recovery rope (not the same as a tow strap). I also use a cover to protect the synthetic line from UV Light degradation.
Great video. Subscribed 👍 ⭐🏆
Any winch is better than no winch. No matter how much HP, no matter how big a tire/lift kit, or how loud a sound system, or shiny wheels, fur seat covers, snakeskin steering wheel cover, or how many lights on top or underneath,.....that winch is a "get outta jail free card". I've still got a Warn 8274....stands for 8000 pounds, 2 directions in/out, and came out in 1974 Mine is a 1977. On the shelf, still runs like new, just couldn't sell it. I have 17 winches on ATVs, RUVs, trailers, etc. They are tools that are worth their weight in gold for yourself and to help others. Sorry for that War & Peace post ✌
Yep! Sounds like you have a great setup!
Go team rugged!!
Grate video. I'd say in my opinion that the rope just depends on what kind of wheeling you do the most and your surroundings
I have a Smitybilt X20 10k. Works fine so far. Has a lot of features for the price.
I got one too, love it.
Mine died after 3 years. Bought a Warn.
Zeon 10s fo sho
i have a couple of buddies that run the Smittybilt XRC winches and they've put them through hell and they just keep on working!!
I have a superwinch ... i like it.. only have used it once though. Should i be having a cover on the wrinch?

how do you like that tree saver? I like how small and thin it is but does it leave any marks on the tree when winching? Seems like an awesome option.
" and then you die " I've got to get one of those tree straps now !!!! Funny shit, keep it coming.
Nice video. I'm just starting to build my 2017 Jeep Rubicon Recon. How much in recovery gear, money wise, do you think it takes to have a good start? Thanks.
Well the winch is going to be the big ticket item.. other than that the rest is affordable. Rockfab Offroad sells a full recovery kit that is very well priced and includes most of the items you will need. However on top of that kit I would recommend a snatch block. Shoot rockfab and email and see what they can hook you up with (rope, soft shackle, d ring, tree strap). He will be able to give you a great price, just tell him you talked to Ben.
Warn 9.5 ti also recommend the rough country multifunction cleat. It is awesome 49.95 at rc
I have a question if I do all the same upgrades to my front end that you did but to my dana 30 with 488 will I be ok with light wheeling on 37 ?
You will want a truss, c gussets, and axle shafts and yes you will be fine for light wheeling
I have a Smitty built 9500 it's never let me down.
Ramsy 9.5 wireless...hasn't let me down yet!
Would you recommend a fairlead with rollers, what fairlead do you use
If using steel cable then go with a roller fairlead, if synthetic line then use an aluminum fairlead. I’m using the factor55 fairlead

Hiya. Do you have a video that can show me what I need off road? Wench, locker etc? I'm new to the jeep world. Thank you
I will be making a video like that soon!
Esslar, this is a year late but before you start spending much money go find a 4x4 club and go wheeling with them. Many Jeep owners start buying items for their Jeep and find out they bought hype vs usefulness.
Find out your end goal for the wheeling you want to do.
A stock rubicon can do a lot as is as long as you can accept scratched rims and bumpers. So armor and good bumpers is a good thing early. You can always use them.
On older jeeps, big tires on stock d35’s is a waste of money. Break an axle or two and you’ll be shopping for a d44 or ford 9 in no time.
I tell new Jeep owners with older Jeep the second thing they need after armor is big front and rear ends, d44 or bigger with lockers and alloy axles and regeared to 4:56, plus driveshafts with spare axles all around.
It’s a big chunk of money but now you have a solid foundation to get bigger tires and you won’t break as often.
Some guys find that their Jeep is good enough stock to do what they want and can plan accordingly.
But wheel first, then think about what your want to go before buying. One of the least used tool on a Jeep are winches.
Anyway good luck.

warn 10 wireless with rope awesome
Awesome Vid Ben, I missed this before I think. Another option could be an anchor of some sort when you don't have a tree or another car to hook on to.
Steel cable needs a weighted blanket or similar to force the cable down if something breaks while under a load. Steel > synthetic. Google it lol, ask a tow company why they don't use them.
They both have there ups and downs. For off-roading I prefer synthetic. Tow trucks mainly face static loads, offroad it’s very common to shock load a line during a recovery or winching yourself over an obstacle.
I have a warn and it came with a good wireless remote
Smittybilt X2O, it's saved my ass many times.
Been eyeballing this little unit and was hoping I’d find a comment or two in this thread. Been a year since you posted this. Still think it’s a good buy?

Awesome ass crash brother🤣

It might be worth mentioning that, though the snatch block doubles the winch pulling power, it could exceed your line limits.
The line limit doubles as well, however the strap on the hook side of the snatch block which would be around the tree could easily be overloaded.

Great video. Subscribe. Warn 10s platinum.
4:10 That tree strap is no good, for the tree. The entire point of a tree strap is to increase the surface area, increasing the spread of the load and decreasing the pressure of the load. What you have is a tow strap.
Warn vr 8000
smittybilt 10,000lb
"Do some googling" lol. Thats the problem, people who get their info from google. I have a Warn 8274 on my TJ , a Warn Evo VR 12,000 on my TJ, and a harbor freight badland 12,000 on my daily driver. All with wire rope. The wire rope on my 8274 has been on it since it was manufactured in 1981, and been used THOUSANDS of times. Synthetic winch rope is only beneficial if you are too lazy to pull wire, too stupid to rig safely, or have too much money and you need to waste some.
The money I've saved by NOT buying synthetic rope for my 8274 every few years PAID FOR MY OTHER TWO WINCHES. While you guys are splicing your synthetic rope back together because you didn't maintain it properly, I'm going on to the next obstacle.
