I asked Amyrlinn several months ago about running this game, he said it wasn't likely to be feasible to be in a GDQ. So happy to see him host it now
A joy to watch you sprint through the game at the speed of a cyclone. That jump into Fort Sunshine was inspired.

Speedmod is truly a remarkable hotfix for speedrunning this game.

The overactive dialogue is suuuuch a time waster as a casual player... I'm glad they cut down on that in tiny tina's wonderland, but it just required a different team to work on that IP.
I'm surprised he didn't go for the weapons chest that's up on the scaffolding to the left before going in to fight Shiv, he could've gotten a SMG or even a 3rd Jacobs pistol.
I know this is a bit late but it’s slower to run up and get that chest than it would be to just kill shiv because most of the damage is from the fire barrel. And a way better gun is grabbed right after making anything from that chest useless

Dialogue skipping with a mod; I understand for speedrunning (In 2 it was skipable by just.. Going to the objective).
...Adding quest rewards that 'Make you do movement 20% faster' - Why even bother at that point? Why not just mod the game to finish it immediately?
It's guaranteeing a drop that you can get at that point anyway, and as they said, not having that drop is a run killer, so it is making it so you can see the optimal human levels of play that are possible in the game, without having to deal with continuous failed runs due to dealing with rng drops. Basically it becomes a human run TAS equivalent. That also sounds similar to what some people say about TAS, and glitch heavy runs, and hey, if that's not your thing, all good, as there are plenty of other categories to watch, some people just enjoy the stripped down version that is more of a showcase of optimized movement that doesn't have to rely on rng.
Was thinking the same. He literally said that the quest doesn't have a reward but they added it. One thing is making it 100% drop from its intended source, but they just giving themselves gear at that point and that's not really "fixing RNG"
@@jackbloodraven the vanquisher's 'intended source' are enemies from halfway through the run. the reason he says it's obtainable this early is that any legendary piece of gear can drop from any enemy, just at a reduced rate. they add it as a reward for that main story quest so runners don't waste hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of hours resetting runs just because they don't get that weapon.
@@DerpHavenn technically why it’s there is the chest at the top of mountain after meeting Vaughan that drops it more often than you would think
So it's a speed run with no rng at all. Which makes it not as fun!
the issue is that the gun can drop very rarely from any loot source that early in the game
that's an issue because someone could just get lucky one run, get it quickly, and if they play decent the rest of the run, even if they make a few mistakes it doesn't matter, they have world record, and no matter how well anyone else plays, if they don't get the extremely rare chance they won't beat world record, new strats have to be found or you just have to get lucky, there's no longer anything to gain from optimizing your skills at the run, every runner is forced to choose between strat hunting, grinding for rng, or giving up
I agree, so much has been modified you may as well just make a mod that starts the end credits. I can understand the cut scenes and dialogue (though i still dont like it), but modifying the core game functionality to manipulate quest rewards and drops just feels too far away from vanilla.
It would take way more than 3 hours to run without mods. They probably didn't have time
lol you try farming optimal pieces of required gear every run every single time it’s worse dmg than winning the lottery by far
