Saying What You Want To Hear

I like the Peanuts cartoons. I was reminded of one where the gang was returning to school. During the first day of class, they had to share their essay about returning to class after the summer break. *Reading from her essay Lucy wrote, “Vacations are nice, but it’s good to get back to school. There is nothing more satisfying or challenging than education and I look forward to a year of expanding knowledge. When she was finished Lucy whispered to Charlie Brown, “After a while, you learn what sells!” That’s a pretty good description of what has happened to our society. From the classroom to the boardroom, to politics, to religion. Saying what is perceived as what others want to hear, whether true or not, has become the go-to. We have become a society that no longer believes in the concept of absolute truth.
