  • Dispatched for retail on the 1st July 1968 and registered in London, Absolute Classic Cars are delighted to offer this truly wonderful RHD Home Market MGC Roadster, confirmed by her accompanying British Motoring Heritage Certificate issued to Captain J P Mitchell, July 2015. Finished in her original Tartan Red, black leather interior, black 'packaway' hood, 15" disc wheels and full size tonneau all as per build, this stunning car has had just 3 former keepers since the early 1980's and has only come to market as her most recent owner finds the car sees little use, just 900 miles in the last 3 years and just 6k miles in the last 20 years.
In exceptional condition and with a full lever arch file of history confirming her ongoing specialist maintenance, restoration, MOTs back to the early 80's, books, parts catalogues etc we say with confidence that this is without doubt one of the finest MG's we've had the opportunity to offer.
A tour around the car confirms that the bodywork remains in excellent condition, the panel gaps are first class, the all important seams perfect and with the doors that close with real positive feel, no slam needed! The Tartan Red paintwork polished to a wonderfully lustrous shine and virtually mark free, the original chrome bumpers, over-riders, grill are stunning, the lenses excellent and 15" original specified Disc Wheels, shod with near full tread 185/65/15 Dunlop SP Sport tyres, offer a more original 'feel' versus larger profile tyres fitted to cars with modern non-standard Minilites / Wire wheels etc.....she's a car for the purist.
The feel of originality feel extends to the interior too. Open the door and you're meet with an original 'Banjo' 3 spoke steering wheel, the beautiful black leather seats with red piping show just minor wear, it's more a beautifully softening with age with the odd crease, there's a pair of period Kango seatbelts, a quality set of carpets which extend to the boot area too, door cards / kick-panels all in perfect condition and then just a wonderfully clear, original dash, no add-ons .... it's a lovely place to be, immediately transporting occupants to motoring of yesteryear. Naturally being a Roadster, this MGC comes with an original specification 'packaway' hood, but as a 100% dry weather only car for the last 4 years at least, we've not needed to test it, the condition of the hood is first class, but as we envisage her new owner will maintain 'dry use only', we're showing her with her tonneau which although full length, tucks neatly behind the front seats aiding her wonderful clean lines.
Mechanically the MGC is a dream and we're happy to admit we're just totally smitten by the 'C's straight six engine, in fact just take a moment to open the bonnet and admire the engine bay, glorious! From cold she's needs just a little choke, a turn of the key and 'vroom', she fires instantly, not a puff of smoke and settles into a turbine smooth idle, a lovely tone coming through her stainless exhaust system. Select first gear, the gearbox action is riffle tight and accurate, a few revs and away......it's just super smooth progress through all gears, Over-drive too, great steering and superb positive, servo-assisted, brakes. Needless to say ahead of sale she'll pass to our independent engineer for a full 'health check', service and she'll come with a new MOT too, real peace-of-mind for her new owner.
With just over 1,400 RHD 'Home Market' examples built, to find and offer a genuine RHD example of the MGC is a real pleasure and an example finished to the standard a delight. With her great history file, spanning some 40 years and finished in arguably the best colour, Tartan Red, we feel you'll struggle to find a nicer, original spec example of this classic MGC Roadster!
