Roger: Gi and No-Gi assassin! His run at ADCC 2005 was epic, submitting all his opponents. In the absolute he went through: Aoki, Werdum, Xande, and Jacare during the most stacked who’s-who of grappling ever. No pressure...just make everyone tap.

There are 2 questions. Best fighter and best at ju jitsu. I think Hickson is the best fighter of the 3 but for ju jitsu we need to let them grapple withneach other to find out. I think that Hickson has something that the others dont. He was more rounded and fearless. His mental game is incredibld. But i think they are all great. They put their hearts into bjj. Roger is my favorite person of them all. He shoukd have fought Buschesha mors often. Fans would love it. Roger has something special just like Rickson, but less ego. Rickson is so confident that he wins with the energy of his confidence. He never lost. And that includes mma. He destroyed everyone he fought, yes, destroyed

It's fairly well documented that Royce was not among the top Gracie fighters at the time. There is no contest, in pure BJJ Rickson was the best in his time, and Roger in recent times. But Roger's skills are built on those that came before him, and there is no doubt in terms of performance, Roger is the best. Rickson probably is the most knowledgable on Jiu-jitsu, but Roger surpassed him. NHB/MMA is something different altogether, Renzo had more fights. But Rickson would easily manhandle Renzo in BJJ. But what is not mentioned is that in sport BJJ, Royler was one of the best in his era, competed in a time when BJJ was exploding and was undeated for over 12 years in his weight division. Royler was better than all of them in Sport BJJ, but Rickson could tap Royler multiple times whenever they trained. That's how good Rickson was. Rickson could submit every Gracie brother and all the Machados, including Rigan. Rickson submitted everyone he faced in Sport BJJ including Carlson's guys he competed against. Rickson and Roger are the best Gracies ever bar none. At sport BJJ, Royler simply because of his compeition record. In MMA, it would have to go to Renzo for who he faced but he was nowhere near the best Gracie in the family art. In modern times, for pure BJJ, probably the best Gracie outside of Roger is actually Ryron Gracie. Stellar technique.

When Rickson was Roger's prime grappling age (late teens to mid 20s) was famously going around Brazil and submitting everyone. Every teacher, every black belt. ADCC didn't exist, and Rickson was almost 40 when the Mundials started up. ... Perspective.

And Cesar was close to both of them. That's why it's interesting to me. The momentum that Renzo started - one of his students starting ADCC, another one being Danaher, Renzo had the first book out, the first GJJ video out, .. before his knee became an issue - he was on fire. But Rickson was a bit sharper and a good deal more athletic/powerful. .. Who did Roger beat in MMA? Randleman in his 40s, lol. .... Where welter/middleweight Renzo beat multiple heavyweight champs. ...... I personally think 30 year old Roger beats 30 year old Renzo in a no-gi match. But small Renzo is absolutely in the conversation.

Sakuraba's career is thanks to the organization that Rickson made possible. ... At the time, it was common knowledge that Rickson was building up the match with Rickson. Saku was a NOBODY until that Royce match. But even then, it wasn't enough, nor was the Royler match. The Renzo match gathered enough public demand and they were offering close to a million for that match. But Rickson had already taken the match fighting the creator of Pancrase. Shortly after, two things happened: Saku got stomped by Wanderlei and the Japanese's offer shrank down tremendously. Then Rickson's son died and that was pretty much it. All of that happened very rapidly after Saku's win over Renzo. ...There was no avoidance, just waiting for a paycheck - then that slipped away after Pride 13. And there was no real motive after that.
