Anni is the sweetest. She's the sister in law of a friend of mine. Not so long ago she walked 40 km to raise money for refugees. That's her. You should listen to her latest song on Beste Zangers. It's called Endless Road.

Roel van Velzen wrote this song remembering the times he was in the back of the car with his dad, who was a great beatles fan, just singing together. He recorded this together with his dad who was a pretty good singer himself. A couple of years ago his dad passed away so it was so sweet to sing this for him. Karsu and Alides Hidding are two great performers to check out too. Karsu is a turkish singer who grew up in the netherlands and is a great discovery on the show. Alides is the frontman of the Time Bandits. A band that had a couple of big hits in the 80's. And he is fantastic as well
Tom, totally true. Nobody here in the Netherlands knew Floor or know Anneke or Simone from Epica... Or Sharon from within Temptation. Or Charlotte from Delain.... We could have our own Beste Metal zangers!
Speak for your self. The Gathering had hits in the 90s, performed Pinkpop etc. Sharon den Andel had hits with WT and with Tiësto, but I think she deliberately tries to stay a bit low profile in NL, to hold a private life without papperazzi. Floor and Simone were unknown outside the rock scene indeed...

Nice to know. Roel van Velsen is actually the guy who came up with the turning chair concept for The Voice, when he was asked to be a judge on this new talent show. The rest is history.
Anneke’s specific sound is “ nasal”, you can always hear when it’s Anneke! I think Anneke’s voice is truly an instrument, she can sing anything🤩

I don't really hear very much nasality, she absolutely uses it, but not so much that I would describe her entire sound as nasal.
When it comes to that I think more of someone like Rihanna.
But you are right, you can always hear it's Anneke.

Oh and the man with the hat. That is Alides Hidding. He is a very extravaganz man. He did a few great covers on the show and the man with the black beard and messy black hair is Hendrik Jan Bökkers, he is a true rough diamond. With a great voice. Karsu is the Turkish/dutch lady and a true surprise.
I find that this season performers are all very strong and special Karsu is for me a big surprise.
At 48yrs old she still sounds so amazing. I am a huge Nightwish fan but Anneke is still my favorite female vocalist. I hope you do the whole season. She is such a gift to us all. Thank you for doing this video. Here is a link from her in 1994 doing completely different music. I believe it was before she started fronting The Gathering. A nasal voice is rarely beautiful, but Anneke is an exception. There is some kind of purity and sincerity in her voice that makes me emotional. Especially this performance. I don't know why I cry when I listen to it.
Anneke has a really distinct voice. You can really identify her voice among most of the female singers in music industry.
The bridge are all titles of Beatles songs. Roel's father always said you can say you're a singer when you can sing the harmonies They sang. In the original video his father sings this part together with Roel. Since he passed away last year this song was quit emotional to him.
In the same episode Karsu sings Song for Furaha, a song about a girl Roel met in Africa who was reaped by a gang on her way back from school. It's about who she keeps going on proudly. He made her co-writer of the song giving her a part of the royalities. Only for that reason you should whatch it...
For me Anneke is the smiling metal angel.

Her singing is very comforting to listen to. Anneke is indeed a lovely presence on stage and she takes everbody with her on that journey. The band is the same as the last three years. They do a good job my friend. There's more to discover as you probably already discoverd.🎤
Anneke has such a unique color to her voice, she can also hit low and high notes and her vibrato is so beautiful. If you want to listen to Anneke in a more acoustic setting you should react to Anneke singing the song Helsinki, it´s Anneke and the guitarist from her band Vuur, Ferry Duijsens on acoustic guitar in a theatre. Thisis the title of the song "Anneke van Giersbergen - Helsinki (TivoliVredenburg Unplugged)".

i'm browsing through several music reaction channels and i'm really surprised - or bett to say shocked - that no one gives attention to one of the greatest singer, composer, writer we have in this decade: susanne sundfor. first i thought that the algorythm to find it must be broken, but no.
it's a shame. really, it is a shame. she should be world famous with her voice.
That was beautiful, both the song and the singer. Another voice from that area is Davina Michelle. She does a version of Pink's "What About Us" which drew raves from Pink herself. Think you'd enjoy it.

You will very much like her last performance with a song from/for Karsu. It is called Jest Oldu, in English and a little Turkish. Without a doubt her best till now. I think the "Floor Jansen" of this season is Karsu. A true revelation. Like Floor she is big outside of The Netherlands, but not that known and famous in her home country.
So agree with your assessment of Anneke's capabilities, but I'd say that she seems underappreciated rather than underrated, just like her first band The Gathering. As you already heard her before (Valley of the Queens & Somewhere and you did mention The Gathering although I've seen no reaction videos on them), you may be interested in learning what she is really capable of. You're probably aware of teh fact that she has a huge discography including a long list of collaborations and guest appearances and she and her music had a huge influence on various singers and musicians in the mid 90s until the mid 00s. I'd love to motivate you to do some research on Anneke and do a next reaction on one of her signature performances with pioneering band 'The Gathering' from their 25th anniversary concerts in 2014: 'Travel', 'Waking Hour' or 'On Most Surfaces'. Travel is truly amazing:

I agree that in this year's "Beste Zangers" the mixing of the ochestra with the singers is not always on point. This is a good example of not so good mixing.

Well, you only hear the good songs. There is also soooo many crap. For sure with the Dutch folk music any person can go into a studio, record a song and getting it aired on some pirate station or even the national TV station TV-Oranje. That part you do not want to know!
