Welcome to Amc Interchange 30! Opened to the public on May 7th, 1999, the theatre was the largest of its kind in Canada. The 30-plex featured 3 concession Stands and 30 separate theatres, some of varying sizes. The theatre was initially successful but had a steady decline over the years to come.
By 2011 the theatre was in trouble. The 30-plex was much too big and it was rare that a theatre would ever reach full capacity. Customers complained of poor sound quality, that a full wing of theatres was permanently closed, and that it was overpriced. The nail in the coffin for the theatre was when they stopped playing new release movies and only played second-run films. The colossus Cineplex Minutes down the road is believed to be the main cause of Amc Vaughns's downfall. Cineplex had a more intriguing building drawing in customers, they always had the newest movie releases, and they were simply a better value.
AMC Interchange closed its doors forever on May 8, 2014, just 15 years after opening. The building sat empty for another 7 years until demolition started in October.

I have very fond memories of this theatre. Watched many films here and while the popcorn wasn't the greatest and the movies were a bit older, it was always quieter than most theatres, which was a nice change. I'll miss AMC and I may be wrong in saying this, the old drive where Colossus now sits was demolish din the 90s, I believe Colossus is the next to go eventually. Its my opinion movie theatres are all on borrowed time. Anyway, loved the video Noah and congrats on your 50k subs. Well deserved my friend.

The way this theater complex is setup appears like the one in our town, except it had 24 auditoriums instead of 30. AMC was having trouble with the business there. It got sold to Regal and they removed 10 of the auditoriums.

Good job. It takes balls to go to an abandoned place by yourself. I would be too scared to do it by myself.

Some theaters closed because the independent owner couldn't afford to go to digital projectors. One was saved in NJ when someone took over the lease. Then installed new projectors that I heard made the community happy.

I’ll bet those projector slide trays were up in the projector room to show the ads in between films. Kind of weird that they would use such old technology though. 🤔

Thank you for the tour of this closed down AMC failed 30 screen multiplex. You narrated very well, and described the reason behind the demise of this multiplex movie theater. It does not matter if you have 100 screens, they can all be poor quality. Their motive was to impress the public with how many screens they can put under one roof, not to have a proper film presentation. I live in the Dallas area and we had AMC THE GRAND 24, AMC MESQUITE 30, and AMC GRAPEVINE 30. When these massive theatres first opened, they had lots of patrons, but fast forward 5 plus years later, these theatres also declined in attendance. I thought, at the time they first opened, that these AMC multi screen theatres would fail in the long run, and they did, just as this video proved. American Multi Cinema, or AMC, really made MANY bad decisions, like overspending, poorly designed auditoriums and sound systems, not teaching the projection booth operators proper habits like cleaning projectors between shows, being careful when threading the film onto the projectors and not scratching film in the process. The employees who ran the projectors were not projectionists, they were operators. I don't put down anyone who was an employee at this major theater chain, but I do not have much respect for AMC as a company. AMC Theatres is still overpriced, and I go to Cinemark instead with no regrets, which is one of their biggest competitors. AMC is probably still in trouble today. By the way AMERICAN MULTI CINEMA got their name when they opened the first very small movie theater with more than one screen, it had 2 screens, the first MULTIPLEX, technically speaking.

If you look at the landscape of the area in 2023 going into 2024 there have been a few stores that have been there and are now gone. One of the problems/short sidedness of AMC was that they tried to compete with Cineplex at that location until they eventually pulled out of Canada completely. Before Colossus was even built the area was always used for movies up until 1997 when the 400 Drive-in existed and the new theater was built starting in 1998, opened in 1999. One of the best things that AMC had was the AM watchers club on weekends where it was discounted prices until 12 p.m, as well as bringing some films that were more for those who loved Film Festival selections as well as high profile indie offerings. The other theaters once owned by AMC in the Toronto Area were purchased by Cineplex and are still in full operation. Since Cineplex already had Colossus there was no need for them to purchase Interchange 30 and now sits as a empty lot. Thanks for the video.

Congrats on the 50k! What a shame the building is being destroyed instead of finding a way to repurpose it. So much valuable equipment especially in the concessions area left behind that is now useless. I'm sure AMC wrote it off as a loss, but it could have been taken out immediately and sent to other AMC theatres as parts replacements. Also sold to smaller theatres, second runs, donated to schools, events, etc.
