Exclusive Heartstopper Interview w/ William Gao | Tao Xu

- William Gao is an actor that can be seen playing Tao Xu in the television show Heartstopper. We have been looking forward to bringing you a Hearstopper interview and hope you are as excited as we are. Heartstopper is a British coming-of-age romantic comedy streaming television series on Netflix, adapted from the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. It is about Teens Charlie and Nick, who discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love in this coming-of-age series. The show premiered on Netflix back in April. William Gao portrays the character of Tao Xu. YEM was able to bring you this exclusive Heartstopper interview with William and speak to him about so many things. William spoke about his character Tao Xu and how he is similar/different to his character, and about the show.
During the interview, William was asked “Who is Tao? Can you lay out your character for us, what he does, who he is?” He answered by stating “Tao Xu is a character who is Charlie’s really good friend, probably Charlie’s best friend actually. He is very opinionated. He is quite cynical but in his own special way. He is not afraid to say what he thinks, and that is what I love most about him. He gets really entangled in a lot of stuff at school and a lot of drama, but at the deepest level he is a loving friend and he is a very caring person.” We did our best to get all the details in this Heartstopper interview.

i will forever stand up for Tao's hair!! it separates will from tao so well, bc tao is just weird and goody, but will, damn will is SO COOL!! it fits the character really well

Superb interview with the charming Will Gao . It'll be really interesting to see how they do the Paris trip because in the comics Tao still doesn't know yet. We won't get Tao saying "that's dumb" when Charlie tells him he *slipped in the shower* but maybe it'll be another character?
I'm so curious how they're going to do Paris. But I'm also super excited about it. Nick and Charlie's relationship is everything.

Great questions from the interviewer. Love Tao and Will. Would love to know more about the interactions between Tao and the Harry Green character since they have a lot of combustion together throughout the series. Cormac was really good as Harry too, which is evident from how much I've watched CZcams reactors absolutely hating Harry Green.
