What is Camber? What is Rocker? Flat? Hybrid Camber? When choosing a snowboard, the most important feature to look at is the camber profile. The bend of your board has the strongest affect on the way it rides, so we made this video to clear up all the jargon and help you find the best profile for you. In general, camber boards are best for aggressive riders because they give you more pop, power, and edge control. Reverse camber (rocker) boards lift the contact points out of the snow for easy edge to edge turning and playful catch free riding. This makes them perfect for beginners, casual riders, and park rats. Flat and hybrid camber boards blend the best of both worlds to give you all around boards for the whole mountain.

CAM-ROC all the way
that space case is a gorgeous board.
awesome video. thank you so much!!!
I think the modern curved base profiles like Bataleon's 3BT have made full camber boards more rideable than ever and made them even more suitable for beginners than ever before.
Very helpful
Nice video.
Mount bachelor! My fav mountain!!!
Nailed it
Hybrid camber is it then!! Great video, thanks!
Thanks for the video !! , my first board was Flying V amazing board to learn and improve.. I’m looking for to by my second board I’m struggling between. Rocker/flat /rocker vs rocker/ camber/ rocker all moutain I’m not crazy about park ,, thanks for your help
I ride rocker camber rocker and I love it. Rossignol ONE LF
Video was great....good explanation.... Can u tell me the board that u used when u did ur explanation for the flat boards? Thanx
Hi! Great video, good explanation :) I am looking for a snowboard for snowkiting (kitesurfing). I can't choose between flat and rocker to camber. Basically I wan't it to ride fast and go upwind better. Which one would be better choice? The riding position is different than snowboarding - front leg is straight, back leg is bended, and you ride on only one edge.
awesome vid. I'm looking for a board that can handle high speeds and jumps but also playful enough for butters and rails and ease of carving. what do you suggest camber wise?
Good job bro.
I still can't decide which to choose.
I'm a beginner /intermediate rider.
Starting to learn carving. And ok with turns and connecting them to some degree
That's when snowboard starts getting really fun! I think you would really like a hybrid camber such as the Defenders of Awesome or the CAPiTA Mercury because it still has camber in-between the feet for pop and aggression. If you don't like riding switch and don't care for the park, maybe look at some directional options as it makes turning easier and riding feel more stable.
Great vid. I’m a good intermediate riding mostly pistes (all grades) some park in which i suck but want to get a little better. I weigh 65 kg and slim build. Riding a 2006 burton custom. I only get to ride a week a season. Any tips as to what to buy next
Hello, i am new to snowboarding and deciding on what board should i get. I really want it to be catch free and stable at the turns maybe even for agressive carving also i i'd like it to be interesting to ride more than 1 season. I am thinking about Burton Blunt with a new flying V bend. Thank you!
What is the kind of camber on the boards that most rental places give the average person, or could it be anything?
Do a stiff vs soft flex video pls
Hi thanks for the vid ! I have a little question, i 'm an intermediate snowboarder ( i carve well, i succeed with 180's even if sometimes i fail xD, and i ride well in general, i'd like to go deeper in freestyle, either flat or jump(butter, grabs, 360's) i'd like to know what is better ? I will not pass my day at parks but i'd like to be able to if i want. So what is better in your opinion ? Thanks !
My board is flat. Stiff and catchy as hell. Excellent at carving and landing jumps. However im not pro enough to do 180's off jumps due to the many catches if had in the past.
P Town bro !
I’ve only ridden flat boards and I want to try camber cause I like carving really hard and I like the park so I think I would like a camber hybrid
Ok, you asked for it :). Here is my question: I am mostly one direction (not in the band)...goofy, a bit too old for all them switch tricks. I was looking for a Setback Carver profile, when I google "Best setback carver boards 2023" I almost always get google returning me "carver" boards..which is not really what I am looking for. So how do I find a good amount of setback carvers listed, from which I can do more research? Massively would appreciate an answer, from anyone :). Cheers
do i really need camber in the park/freestyle for the pop, i’m looking at marhar snowboards can’t pick one
I'm looking for a new board so love the 411! Too many decisions haha!! I want stability on the fast flats & trees, but still float in pow. No park for this old lady. I'm thinking Camrock.
Thanks! I will look into that & get back to ya :-)
I just got back from la plagne in France, using my 154 forum freestyle board. Looking at getting something that I can use for a little pow, piste but mainly jib and just playing about. What would you suggest board wise? I saw a gnu metal that seemed to fit the bill.
Im a beginner and i sorta got the camber rocker is that still okay to practice on?
im really new to snowboarding, and im deciding which kind of board i should get, ive only snowboard once, and decided to get a new board! what would you suggest just riding in a park? directional or twin? camber or rocker? Tbh, i just got a burton ripcord 3d with v-rocker bend, but im still not too sure if this is the right board for me. what is your advice? many thanks in advance!
Awesome Vid! I just rode up in Sugar Mountain NC for a few days on some rental Atomic snowboard (150cm). I'm just beginning to learn to carve and connect turns with speed. I'm also learning to trust myself of going toe-side. I'm 5'9" and about 150 lbs. Is there a camber style and length you would recommend?
+Tactics Boardshop
I'm trying to improve my buttering but I also like to carve. What kind of board should I get?
please help. I will be picking up park board in next few days. lib tech box scratcher or capita Scott Steven? mainly for flat land tricks.
Thank you and welcome any comments or suggestions.
I've been riding a Rossi amptech district for 2 years and i wanted to pick up something different.. i spoke to a few people and one suggested a Rome blackjack. I purchased it and unfortunately i live in Florida so my trips are over for this winter. Can you give me an idea of what to expect out of this flat camber board and was it a good choice..?
Hi, can you recommend a type of board for someone who is fairly intermediate, I can muscle down some double blacks but very comfortable on blacks and below. Not much park, small jumps only, need something I can ride switch do flat land tricks. Something that will take me to the next level. Easy for me to have fun now and when I advance. Thanks!
hey im in the market to purchase a board however im not sure what kind of board will suit me.
im into carving but not really interest it in purchasing an alpine board.
any suggestion?
HI..i am looking for a board that is stabil on Butters and carving.i am little better than beginner and looking to spice up my slopes by learning to butter in adition to carving.not confident yet to hit the park. i was thinking Burton Process flying V. or would it be better to have camber in middle ?
What can you recommend of the camber to rocker?
Hi There, is a Flying V good for beginners?
hello i am buying a snowboard camber and can u help me whitc one is good ooo i am riding mostly on normal tracs and little in park. Thank you
Best video on this topic found till now. But I have a question. Would u recomend a rocker-camber-tocker profile to a begginer? I mean, I've already did snowboard before, but I still have some trouble in some basic moves like, switching from a edge to edge of the board, doing c turns. As my first board I would like one that allows me to do a bit of everythig so I can find what I like more, but didn't understood if with a hybrid board it would be easy to learn the moves I've mention above. Thanks you
I would absolutely recommend a hybrid rock-camber-rocker board for a beginner. With rocker on the nose and tail it will allow for easy turn initiation and basic moves like you described. It's really the best of board worlds with responsive camber between your feet for pop and stability at speed but with softer nose and tail for a playful and catch free ride.
@@tacticsboardshop Awesome, that makes me happy, couse I got in love with the "Jones Mountain Twin 202", that is a rocker-camber-rocker profile. Just have a doubt about the size. I always rent 155/158 cm boards. I felt like the 158 was a little bit less manovrable and more difficult to turn than the 155, but didnt understood if it was because of the size o the board model.
the closest size of the Jones board that I found are 154 and 157. Which one would you recommend? I'm 5.11 ft and my weight is 154 lbs if this can help.
I just got my first 11 days this season, and looking to buy a board. I'm looking at hybrid camber and camber. your thoughts ?
What’s a good camber to rocker board: rocker, camber, rocker?
Best up to date camber profile explaining. I'm looking for a board thats catch free hybrid camber when riding flat foot. Is flat in the middle and rocker tail and nose the best option for me? And how about Camber in the middle and rocker on tip and tail?
+Tactics Boardshop Man thanks alot bro. I was so unsure of what to get.
Sweet video! I’m looking to buy my first board. I think I’m keen on a hybrid, just don’t know which. Camber/Rocker or Rocker/Camber. Last season I rented a Jones Aviator. Enjoyed it. So Maybe Camber/Rocker would be closer to the aviator with a little forgiveness?
I would suggest a board that has camber underfoot and rocker in the tip and tail. Hope this helps!
Dan Wedrat go with rocker center, camber under feet. I feel like that’s the most middle ground. Pure rocker really lacks pop and stability when going fast, camber boards can be really catchy.
Dan Wedrat haha I didn’t see that my answer is the exact opposite of what they suggested. I guess that just shows it’s all preference.
Can a beginner ride a camber? Im a beginner trying to become an intermediate, should go for a flat board o buy a camber (Burton process)? Any advice is appreciated
Hi guys, I went 3 times snowboarding so far and I am looking for my first own board now. I like to ride fast on the pist and carving. I do also ride off pist and prouder. Is camber a good shape for me? A rocker wasn't that stable on high speed or should I better buy an hybrid? Looking forward to hear from you. Greets from 🇩🇪
what did you get after 5 years ?

Hello guys. I would like to buy new snowboard. I think i will go with brand Gnu , but I'm wondering which one is better: Gnu B-Nice, Gnu Chromatic or Gnu Ladies Choice? Can you give some advices? I'm riding from 2seasons and i want to become better. I want the board to be playful, to ride in the powder, ride in the resort.. I want to jump and have fun and to become good everywhere. 😄 Ladies Choice is with C2 ( camber rocker camber) profile and the B-Nice and Chromatic is Original banana. What is gonna be better for me?
I ride a forum destroyer chili dog and I like how forgiving it is but I’ve noticed when I hit higher speeds it gets pretty washy and feels like certain death. What would you recommend when looking for a board that’s playful but still offers stability at high speeds and on jumps. It is my first season too so I am lacking in skill. Thanks for all your help
Hey Alec, you should check out the Slash Brainstorm, the Salomon Assassin or the Burton Freethinker. These are all excellent choices if you're looking for an aggressive all-mountain, freestyle oriented snowboard.

I’m looking for a new all mountain board and trying to determine between one that’s full camber and another that’s roc/cam/roc. Can you explain what the difference would be? Pros and cons of both? Thanks!!!
Hi Kristen, typically the roc/cam/roc board will be better in powder and more playful. Advantages of having full camber are stability, and superior edge hold at faster speeds. There are a lot of other factors such as set-back, taper and width. Feel free to reach out to our Customer Service if you want to chat about specifics. 888-450-5060. Thanks!
What’s a good one for all situations like tight turns jumps and just a regular downhill run?
A form of hybrid camber lends itself well to a variety of conditions and ride styles.
Hey! So I learned with a GNU BTX rocker, and I really don't like how I keep popping out when I try to stop fast. It's like I'm skidding down the hill until my board finally grabs.
I'm looking for a board that doesn't do that, one that I can take on some real mountains, and still have the ability to go over some small jumps...but no park.
I appreciate any feedback!
Cool, thanks! I ended up ordering Burtons Flying V, hybrid for women.
Eh, just set your stance back on camber for powder and you're gucci. Camber gangggggg
roflitsjosh this is literally why I clicked on the video. Wanting to buy my first snowboard. Looking at Arbor westmark camber for responsiveness but want those powder days not to keep me off the slope? Also looking Salomon assassin rock/cam/rock but flex is soft and I like speed
Carlos Weaver I don’t know if you have bought a board yet but I recommend the Capita Mercury
@@carlosweaver6763 people rode powder on camber boards for decades before rocker was even thought up. Get the camber, you'll be fine.
Yeah boi!!!
I’m at intermediate level but only have been using rental boards, what are rental board usually? I feel like those are camber. I’m really into buying my own board now. I’m about 5’9 160lbs. I went today and looked at a DC MLF 155cm. Any good? I know this video is old but just stumbled across it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tactics Boardshop I went ahead and bought the board and bindings! Ended up getting it for 250$. I waxed the board the day before I went. And the board looks hasy around the edges. Do you recommend me re wax it? Or should I use a quick wax over top of what’s already on it?
What was the last board shown? That thing was sick
Burton Process - says in the middle of the board.
Easier to carve with a rocker board did you say? I don't think that's correct....
What would be good snowboard for tricks, carving and stable?
We would recommend checking out flat camber profile snowboards that are freestyle oriented. Some of our favorites are the Academy Propaganda, Dinosaurs Will Die Genovese and the Capita Horrorscope.
Tactics Boardshop thanks man
My first board is Rocker, I want to upgrade to more stable boards. I do powder sometimes I want something more stable than rocker what do you recommend ? Flat, or Rocker-flat-Rocker, or Rocker-Camber-Rocker, or Camber-Rocker-Camber ? As you explained R-C-R is what I need but I quite didn't get how C-R-C rides I need help.
And thanks in advance
Awesome, thanks for the help
I couldn't find R-C-R in my local stores websites, Burton is mostly marketing their Flying-V shape it's basically R-C-R-C-R, it's smaller rocker in the middle, do you recommend Flying-V. Do you have any model/brand name that has R-C-R ?
Tactics Boardshop thanks 🙏
I'm looking for a board that is good for jibs, rails, jumps, tail presses, and fast runs. What type of board should I get?
+Tactics Boardshop so, would a hybrid with rocker on the nose and tail be good?
+Tactics Boardshop a Rossignol Trickstick CYT Amptek midwide snowboard is one that I found for a good price, I don't really ever have enough money to buy top dollar products
I was beginner into intermediate and now am intermediate headed towards advanced. I have a K2 turbo dream (flat with both ends rocker) and I'm feeling like I want more carve and leave more of a trench. I'm a directional groomer, no parks, no jumps and increasingly addicted to carving linked turns and want to leave a trench. I'm looking at the Burton One Hitter which seems good for carving?? I just will have a one board to do all as my budget doesn't allow me to have a bunch of boards. Any input greatly appreciated.
You are on the right path. The One Tree Hitter is definitely going to be a great all-mountain board that will hold a nice edge when you need it but also perform great in the powder. It does have some rocker in the nose as it is a directional shape but the camber under foot and out the back will provide more than enough stability for getting low and trenching turns.
Tactics Boardshop Awesome thanks 🙏
hey guys looking to buy my first set up im sort of inbetween beg and int my local guys are saying the k2 turbo dream would be match.. im 6"1 and 130 kg with a 11.5 foot... you thoughts would be good
yeah all mt would probley would be the best.. im not a park rider...my local guy has suggested the k2 turbo dream in 164 wide... with rome targa bindings...thoughts??
+dizzy Dave solid board go for it
1:56 what board is that?
should i get a flat one since i go on park a lot ??
Thanks
So like if I wanted to go really fast downhill with like what stuff do I get?
Gear of the stiffer side.
Board: A directional camber that's medium/stiff to stiff
Boots and bindings: medium/stiff to stiff.
How tall are you and how much do you weigh? Asking for board size recommendations.
I’m about 5’11 and 270
@@ytnommah3983 A stiff directional board size 158 or more.
what does whishy whashy means ?
Am I correct to assume that a rocker-camber-rocker board will be more "camber" than an all-flat board, so to speak?
Correct. The profile between the feet will ultimately determine what the board feels like overall.
@@tacticsboardshop Great! Thanks for confirming my age-long mystery!
what to take for ground tricks?
Go watch videos of Marc Frank Montoya doing flat ground tricks. He's doing that with a camber board. Your technique makes the trick, not the board.
i'm a beginner just started, i have a wide 154cm k2 fatbob. i'm 5'11, size 12boots,weight is 195lb is the board too small, should i get a 159cm?
Yes, a 157-159 would be a better fit for someone your size. Please let us know if you have any further questions!
@@tacticsboardshop my board is traditional camber style. 10.43 at waist 10.6 at bindings and 12inches at widest close to tip. I'm able to do Toe turns but finding it hard to do heel turns. Stance is at 0 +15
Do you think it's because of its extra wide size or I need more practice and it's too early to buy another board
@@jeansandmyshirt Because the Fatbob is an older board and we can't see your setup in person, it's difficult for us to speculate or offer any concrete suggestions. Is your backfoot set at 0 and your front foot is set at +15? how much space is there between the heel of your boot and the edge of the board? Have you tried riding another board to compare it to your snowboard? Are your edges rusty or dull? These are all great starting points to help diagnose your issue.
this would be a fantastic video if i new what he means by wishy washy
I am a beginner, height 164cm (5.38 feet), what do you think is the best board for me?
Stefanie Kirschner height doesn’t really have anything to do with what board to get. Go with a rocker board for your first though.
This was my first season and the first time I went I used a camber board and it was a nightmare. I pretty much rolled down the mountain for 6 hours. This time around I’m riding a rocker set up and dude the difference is unbelievable. The rocker boards leave a lot of room for error so even if you catch an edge you can still learn to pull yourself out of it. Rocker is the way to go for sure when you’re learning
How come rocker profile helps you to carve better?
It won't necessarily help you carve better but it does lend it's hand to beginners as turn initiation is easier on a reverse camber/rocker board.
"camber rocker" is the same as "flying V" right?
Correct. Flying V is Burton's naming convention for a form of Hybrid Camber.
Wow this comment section is still active :)
your cute
Dana Villani you're*
Camber = Best for groomers, park, carving, and pop. Just not ideal in powder unless you set your stance back and ride a bigger board. Yes beginners might have a harder time learning on regular camber but they should learn the right way and not be a pussy about it.
Flat Camber = Great option for All Round/All Mountain with a less catchy feel.
Hybrid Camber = Not great at anything, but ok for everything.
Reverse Camber = King of staying afloat in powder.
You're hired.
