  • Hi everyone! Welcome to my channel, where I share my passion for quilting with you. In this video, I'm going to take you on a journey to the most amazing retreat with my guild, the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston. I had so much fun and I learned so much from this experience.
I started my adventure on Thursday afternoon, when I drove to Camp Lone Star in La Grange, Tx. This is a beautiful campsite on the Colorado River, surrounded by nature and wildlife. I saw so many deer and fawns, it was like a fairy tale. The camp has cozy cabin-like bedrooms, a spacious dining hall, and huge quilting rooms where we spent most of our time.
But before I got to the camp, I made two stops at some awesome quilt shops that I highly recommend you visit if you're ever in the area. The first one was the Wooden Spool, where they have a great selection of novelty prints and fabrics. They also had the best sale of all the shops I visited, so I couldn't resist buying some goodies for myself. The second shop was The Spoiled Quilter, and let me tell you, no quilter goes to The Spoiled Quilter without spoiling themselves. The owner was super friendly and helpful, and they have a gorgeous collection of fabrics and patterns. I also met some of the other retreaters there. We made plans to have dinner together that night and get to know each other better.
The food at the camp was amazing! A chef prepared all of our meals, and they were delicious and nutritious. We didn't have to worry about cooking or cleaning anything, we just enjoyed our food and our company. It was so relaxing. It was like an all-inclusive resort just for quilters. My motto for the weekend was Sleep, Eat, Quilt, Repeat!
On Friday, I took a class called Got Scraps, where we learned how to make beautiful quilts using strips of fabric. It was such a fun and creative class, and I loved seeing how everyone's quilt blocks turned out differently. I made a lot of progress on my quilt, and I can't wait to finish it and show it to you.
The rest of the weekend was spent quilting, chatting, laughing, and learning from each other. Everyone in my guild is so talented and generous with their knowledge. I got to see some amazing projects that inspired me to try new techniques and styles. I even met one of the quilters who has an entire exhibit just for her at this year's International Quilt Festival!
But the best part of the retreat was making new friends. I felt so welcomed and accepted by everyone there. We had so much in common, not just our love for quilting, but also our personalities and interests. We had deep conversations, silly jokes, and heartfelt moments. I felt like I found my tribe.

Thanks for taking us along on your retreat and shopping. Living a rural area it was great to be able to see other shops. Makes me really appreciate the quilt shop that is close to me. Love the scrappy quilts, have to say that they are my favorite. Thanks Jo

I enjoyed this so much! You did a fantastic job covering every aspect of your retreat experience! I have attended several retreats over the years but none recently. I love scrappy quilts too so the class would have been right up my alley! Your spiderweb quilt is off to a great start! I went to the last shop you showed, The Quilted Skein on a tour when I attended the Houston Quilt Festival several years ago. I bought a handmade mug from that shop that I use every morning. It says "fabriholic" on it, haha! Your guild sounds really fun! Thanks for sharing and happy quilting!

This was such a fun video to watch. I would love to join a quilt guild. I typically craft alone, and it would be nice to have crafty friends. I wish there were more women in their 30's that quilt or at least in the same phase of life that I'm in.
