Last weekend I took part in my longest single day race ever - 52.4 miles up the Cotswold Way - called Race To The Tower. The event happens over one (85km) or 2 days (2 marathons) and is one of the best 'entry level' ultras above 50km out there!
I had SUCH a great time, despite some niggles. Huge shoutout to Max for keeping me company the whole way. Watch to see how we got on!

This was awe inspiring Flora! You did so incredibly well. I remember watching a video of yours back in 2020 announcing Race to The Castle, then it being shut down, so I am so happy for you that you made a come back on it. I really loved this vlog, it’s wonderful to see loads of different English countryside. You bopping at the fifth aid station made me laugh 😂 I did my longest run today, it was only 17k but for me, it was hecking far. I kept thinking “If Flora can do 52 miles, I can manage eleven”. Thank you for inspiring me to think enough of myself that I could manage it. You’re an absolute star ⭐️
Ps very cute having Anna as a cameo, she’s one of my fave on TRC 🌻
You have a good memory! I was so happy to finally be able to run one of the threshold races 🤗 that's awesome about your run! Congrats. 17km still feels far for me too haha
This looks like such a beaut trail… can’t ever imagine running 85k !! But the countryside and your upbeat attitude is super inspiring. Congratulations on completing
Haha nor could I until I did it! Thank you 😊
I'm trying to be well rounded athlete like sprinting long distance and cycling
So proud of you 🥰 you did so well and absolutely bossed it. Huge well done 👏 loved coming to cheer you on 🎉 xx
LOVE YOU thank you so much for supporting!! 🥰🧡🧡🧡🧡
You look far too happy during this monster of a race!!! Well done, that’s an impressive achievement 💪💪
Haha I was having a great time! Thank you 😊
Blimey Flora, how do you run so far and stay so upbeat?!👏👏 I did a section of that run as part of a team in the Cotswold Way Relay many years ago. It is a lovely part of the country. I know an ultra runner in my mountaineering club who doesn’t consider a run to be a run unless it’s 100 miles+!!😱🤣
Haha! "Personal Paparazzi"! I'm going to use that one soon! And as ever, another absolutely stunning circuit at which to marvel. Between this vlog and my friend sending over pictures from Wimbledon yesterday, some of my memories from my first (and only) trip to the UK have been revived this past week from three years ago. My daughter and I not only visited the AELTC, but also spent a nice afternoon at the Surrey AONB, similar in landscape (and weather) to what you've presented here. Thank you once more for sharing and inspiring!
this gave me all the feels. I'm doing my first ultra in 11 days (RTTS day 2, 50k) and seeing your emotional highs and lows has been so refreshing. I know i'll have my fair share myself (once I get to 27 miles I'll be saying this is the farthest i've ever run too!) :) Was so lovely of Anna to be there for you, bless her (love her!). I know you said you'll concentrate on approx 50ks from now but I can see you going for RTTS 100km straight through in 2023.... :D Huge well done on the Tower!
Thank you!! 🥰 oooh good luck with RTTS! Yes i think I could have done 100km, but it'll take me some time to train back up for it again after my rest period 😅 enjoy your race!
@@FloraBeverley thanks lovely! I'll report back how it went, i'm expecting brutal, fun and totally emotional! 😊 Enjoy your rest period, you've totally earnt it!! x
Can’t wait to see the training vlog for your 100 miler 🤣🤣. You know it’s going to happen. Nice job Flora
Haha oh god I hope not 😂
You are awesome Flora! Massive congratulations! 👏💪🏃🏼♀️😁
Congratulations Flora great effort, that distance looks brutal, the scenery was beautiful 👏👏
That transition from trail to road seems brutal after so many miles. Minus the passing showers it looked like a nice beautiful sunny day. Congrats on completing the race even with the pain!
Haha yes it's tough under foot! We really lucked out with the weather considering it was supposed to rain half the day! Thank you 😊
Fantastic Flora! Those aid stations were stacked, what a well put on race!
They were amazing, really impressive!
Awesome achievement. And you are such a happy person. 😊
Been binging your videos, Flora and I am amazed at how you can run and vlog at the same time. Thank you for the videos
So glad you're enjoying them! 🤗
Farther than you've ever gone! That was amazing Flora, and all smiles. Thanks for taking us through the Cotswolds. I've visited there years ago but wasn't running back then 😊
So inspiring Flora och congrats! What an achievement! Well done! Great video as always. Love from Sweden
Thank you! 🥰
Congratulations on your first 50+ miler!! What a beautiful area! Everyone needs a Max in their adventures, and an Anna too!! Loved the video, I knew it would go from "that was horrible" to "what next?" I've been focusing on 50ks, and though I've thought about a 50 miler, I simply don't have the time to train.
Thanks so much Kelly! In all honesty, my training for this was entirely based off my training for MCC (40km in the mountains) last year. It was just a longer training block, but the weekly mileage was exactly the same! 🤗
@@FloraBeverley well you killed it!! You seem to train with your head AND your heart, whereas many of us are just ticking off workouts. I'm embarrassed to admit my longest training run EVER was one 13 mile run, usually it's one of two 12 mile runs. I might be able to struggle through 50ks with that crap mileage, but no way am I finishing a 50 miler in 1 piece! 😂
That was indeed great fun to watch, I love those racing videos, definitely keeps me motivated on my way back to marathon distance (by the end of this year) and then entering unknown terrain next year (or the year after that) with my first ever ultra marathon distance - thanks for making these inspirational videos. Also nice to see Anna and her little cheerleader^^
Oooh that's so exciting! Good luck with that. Yes so lovely to see her!
Epic, well done. I see 100km on your list next. BTW, have to give a shout to your wonderful partner who picked you up due to the train strikes actoss the UK. Well done sir. So many support people, partners and family in behind us crazy trail runners and we need to give them props for their support.
Yes Fiann was brilliant 👏 especially as he'd been working all day!
Surely a 100K is in your future? You did an amazing job! 🙏❤️
I'm sure it will be 🙈 can never say no to these things!
Fantastic Flora! 💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 ……and I couldn’t agree with you more about golf courses!
Welcome to the +50 mile club. Had to laugh at the chap exiting the portaloos at the end (29m27s).
Well done Flora. Great job Max, especially packing that camera in your hand! 52mi is NO joke. Thanks for taking us along! You might like to carry a 5 Hour Energy Drink and take it somewhere around midway. That and a Celebrex could turn things around for you in the 2nd half.
Defo energy drink could help, but NSAIDS aren't recommended for endurance runs as they mess with your kidneys if you're not careful. But thank you very much! 😊
Well done Flora, what a great achievement - it may have been your longest run but you made it look much easier than Croatia! I hope recovery is going well. This was exactly what I needed before heading out on my long run (only 2 hours) this morning.
Thank you so much! Yes it was much much much easier than Croatia, I think because I didn't have several days of fatigue and super early mornings in the legs haha! Hope you enjoyed your long run :)
Loved this - thanks Flora! INcredible achievement :) Signed up for my rift 100k at RTTS next weekend and the nerves have defintely kicked in now!
Omg amaaaazing, huge good luck 🙌 enjoy it!
these are so fun to watch Flora and really make me think I can do these kinds of races that I would love to do. Thanks for the inspiration👏👏🥰🥰
You absolutely could!🙌
Great achievement Flora, super running and that's a lot of gates to get through! Big congrats and hope the recovery is going well
Thank you! Yes haha so many gates!
Fantastic Flora! Well done! Loved the scenery
Thank you! It was gorgeous :)
You are seriously my ultra hero! Inspirational! So many congrats :)
Aw thank you so much!! I like the term "ultra hero" 😅🦹♀️
Well done Flora, and Max too!
Watching your vlog, I realize more and more how much I prefer to do trail running, can't wait for my first 50k in the fall. Keep up with the good work and inspiration.
Yay so happy to hear it! 🙌 good luck for the 50k, hope you enjoy it!
Bravo Flora! A very impressive achievement and a real confirmation of your fitness. You continue to inspire, particularly those of us who have never gone such distances. Thank you, and what's next?
Thank you so much! Next is a much needed break, and then who knows!
That was fantastic! I would love to do this one day. I feel very inspired. Like you said, nothing is achievable until you do it 🙂🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
🙌🙌🙌 do it! I don't think this exact one is happening next year 😭 but they have a bunch of other similar (flatter!) races. You'll smash it 👏
Incredible! Well done Flora 👏 🔥🏃♀️
Thank you so much!! 💓
That route looked stunning 😍 well done for completing the distance, respect 🙏 👏 x
Thanks so much! I really enjoyed it 🤗
Good morning Flora and all the runners. Excellent video, good race. Flora, you are a super woman. A nice week for everyone.
Not only an incredible athletic achievement, you did some award winning smiling as well.
Quite fancy that run, but I'd definitely take the camping half-way option.
Wow!! Amazing Flora such an inspiration x
Well done Flora! Such a beautiful trail 💗
Outstanding Flora , great vid ! ❤
Looks like a PB performance here...must've been the PBJ sandwich haha! (Wow, great to see Anna out there too, in the excellent weather)
Thank you! It was PB because I've never done the distance before 😅 yes it was amazing to see Anna !
Amazing 🤩 top work Flora 👏👏👏
I like the fact that you are so relentless. Keep going 🙂
Congrats on completing, it was a beautiful trail. Unfortunately I had to drop at the half way point through injury. Hopefully they bring the race back in the future so I can have another go.
Ah no poor you! Hope you still managed to enjoy the bits that you did? Well done for getting the marathon done either way!
amazing, Flora! well done.
You looked so comfortable throughout!! Congrats again! My neck of the woods! ps. I hate the golfers up there lol
Thank you! Defo wasn't comfortable throughout, but I did feel better than expected, fitness wise 🤗 Hahaha yes stupid golf
Amazing work Flora!
What a amazing ultra to do the scenery looks like one of the best, speeding up at the last 5k is what? Freaky, great filming, oh yeah 100k next I beat haha, 👍🏃🏽♂️🏃🏽♂️🍀🌿🌲😀🥳
Smashed it! Congrats Flora 💯 may I ask what rain jacket are you wearing?
Yes this one is actually nonstop dogwear! 100% waterproof but breathable and packable. Not cheap but worth it
You don't HAVE to always run the flats Flora :) the change of your plans definatley seemed to affect your mind set with not camping the night. Agree with the golf club comments! I would be proper cross with that uphill finish!!!! Love the zombie walking after the finish line!! Well done for getting it done!
Hahaha you DO 🤣 I'm very stubborn when I set myself a goal, and that was a goal I'd set myself 🙈 it was brill
Only just catching this now... ahhh PBJ...got me through the bike in an ironman in 2014 ❤️🤣
Well done Flora!!
Smashed it yet again!
One thing…..how the hell did you get running again after the halfway checkpoint?
Haha stubbornness. The end doesn't get any closer 😅
I’ve done Race to the King 100km over 2 days (lazy cow 🤪😂) I agree that these events have the best support 🙌
Hahah I don't think anyone would consider that lazy 😅 yessss everyone is so nice!
Amazing stuff!
Well done. That hill at the end was nasty, though.
Haha it was. So long as well! 🤯
Amazing run!
This was so fun to re-live ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey, it's Anna from the Running Channel!
I'm loving the commentary on this #GolfCourses
It is beautiful over in the European countries. My Denton's saiked across the Atlantic to settle in the Massachusetts bay colony in 1634 from lancashire,England so I want to eventually travel over the Atlantic pond to see where my family roots began.
On my mom's side her jones came to anerican coloniesin the 1630's from Wales so I also want to go visit there and see all of the beautiful castles.
Well done your so inspiring 👏
Fabb video. Thank you! Well done on your achievement. Please could you write the name of the flapjacks you eat please? Thank you x
Yes! Nurhu 🤗
@@FloraBeverley thank you! 😊
Well done Flora ,fantastic achievement , may I ask what watch you're wearing ?
It's the garmin fenix 6s pro solar! I love it 😍
@@FloraBeverley Thank you :)
bad ass!!!
I did the race and came 3rd , the hills was brutal but a brilliant place to run
When I blog I think run faster as I forget that running as such x
Think I can clear up the 'finish' sign at half way. When I did RTTS in 2019 I was unaware there was a 50k option as well as the 100 one. So the 50k race ended there hence the finish sign which I assume was the same case at RTTT.
Oh yes haha I know sorry I didnt make that clear! It was just quote tragic having to run towards a finish sign and then having to run another 42km 🥲
Hi Flora, noticed you were wearing the Merrell MTL Longsky. Interested in them! How are they? Are they pretty stable? Thanks
These are actually the Skyfire! They're good, although I think much better suited to shorter, faster races. They don't have loads of stability but I like that - they're great over rocky ground and hilly terrain
Such weird and wonderful race names. How do you get to know about these?
You should do a q and a!
About the ultra? I've done on my IG!
Is there anything in particular you'd like to know?
@@FloraBeverley like life etc in general!
26:11 if it was me, I'd have farted!!!!
So where is that tower?
What more do you need to know than to put one foot in front of the other?
If I never have to run round another golf course, or get frowned at as I run across a golf course on a public footpath it will be too soon.
Also congratulations for completing! I'm doing Race to the Stones next week, although over two days not one. So I'm very glad to hear the organisation is amazing.
Hahaha i totally agree! Huge good luck for your race. You'll love it!
Curious about your GoPro setup?
What would you like to know
How does your Watch last 10 hours do you shut other apps down
It still had loads of battery by the end! It is a Garmin fenix 6s pro solar and has enough battery for a multi day ultra.
👏👏👏🙌👍
Fat/Keto Adaptation?
That's not a real question
Well done, but to be honest I thought you should have ran with Max to the end considering he helped you thru the run. 🤔.
We literally held hands across the finish! The only time we didn't run together was when there was a single track path so one had to go in front of the other.
Good work.... But kissing gate rules.... you've got to hold a gate for a runner behind ;)
I fear fiann may not have picked me up if I'd done that 🥲
Amazing
